When an obstetrician refers a patient to us for advice we must perform tests and procedures we feel are necessary to adequately respond to their concern.Our relationship is with the patient and their obstetrician, not with their insurance company. Due to the Affordable Care Act and higher deductibles, patients are often required to meet a deductible before payment is made by their insurer. While many policies have no deductible for childbirth and related pre-natal care, when referred to a specialist, deductibles do come into play.Medical insurance is a contract between the insured and their insurance company, not the medical professional. This claim was submitted and resubmitted to the patient's insurance company at the patient's request.
