insurance and they processed correctly. We were advised to contact the insured to update their coordination ofbenefits. Updating the patient’s coordination of benefits is theinsured’s responsibility. Many times insurance carriers will conduct audits todetermine if incorrect payments were issued. At that time if they determine it processed as a primary insurance inerror it will recoup the payment. This canhappen years after their initial payment and we may be beyond timely filingwith the correct insurance carrier. Ifthe provider has an agreement with the patient’s insurance carrier we are notable to pursue the balance from the patient because we did not file timely withthe insurance carrier. Green Bay Anesthesia Associates has a contract with bothUnited Healthcare and Anthem and must make every effort to resolve any overpayment. Becauseboth insurance carriers paid as primary we received an overpayment and attemptedto resolve it by contacting the insurance carriers and then the insured. On May 5, 2014 we spoke to [redacted] and explained thatshe needs to contact the insurances to update her coordination ofbenefits. We also sent eight statements to[redacted] at 2[redacted]. The responsible party did not take appropriateaction to resolve this matter therefore the account was turned over to thecollection agency.After the account was sent to our collections agency thepatient scheduled a three way call with anthem and the collection agency. We agreed to close out the account. In the future if payment is requested backfrom either insurance carrier the patient could be liable for the balance. This was never reported to the creditbureau.
