Greenbrier Nurseries, Inc Reviews (3)

I recently viewed a home for rent in Ahwatukee and submitted an application that same evening (Sunday 5/8/16) The next day I received a message asking if I could resend my documents in a different format since apparently when printed they were of a small scale and could not be viewed easily(My agent and I could both view and print the documents with no issues) I confirmed during the call that I was the first person to apply and that my "place in line" would be held until I could resend the docs in a different formatI also confirmed that it would be ok to do so the following morning (5/10/16)I faxed the docs before my work shift began at 7am that Tuesday and waited for a responseI spent the week assuming that the background check was being performed By that Friday (5/13/16), I asked my realtor to reach out for an update since I'd noticed that the application fee had not yet been deducted from my bank account She did so and never received a reply until after several attemptsLate the following Sunday (5/15/16) evening, the realtor handling the listing told my realtor that I did not earn enough to qualify for the monthly rent amount and that I'd been declined! This was a blatant lieAt the time that I applied, my gross earnings were over $25k and as of yesterday's (6/24/16) paycheck, my gross earnings exceeded $35k yet I don't earn enough for the $rental asking price on the home? As educated person and busy mortgage professional myself, I would not have wasted my time applying for or viewing a home that I could not afford Unfortunately I must conclude that someone did not want a minority renter and that I was discriminated against My credit was never pulled nor was the application fee ever deducted from my account Oddly enough, I happened to be in process of selling my home (4th one I've owned in the past years) and my rent/HOA dues were comparable to the rental rate on the home that I was interested inThis was the first time in my life that I've EVER been declined for rent or a mortgageI've only lived in Phoenix for years but have learned since that this is a fairly common practice in certain areas of town by private home owners After such a terrible experience, I decided to lease from a luxury apartment complex nearby in Ahwatukee also The apartment rental rate happens to be HIGHER than the rent for the houseI qualified easily
I wanted this complaint noted for others, particularly minorities that may have similar experiences with this company or those they represent

I am currently renting from this company and am ready for the contract to endI moved AZ from OH due to military ordersFound the place online and paid everything after approvalWhen I got into town I went to just do my first walk throughThe master bathroom closet had a hole in the ceiling that had fallen out, mold was all over the pieces of ceiling on the groundThey actually wanted me to move in knowing it would take from -weeks of construction to correctI was supposed to move in while this was being fixedPlease remember I hadn't even moved inThis was just the walk throughAfter making it clear this was unacceptable and that I could not have construction going on when I move in for that long because I work from home and the mold could be everywhere, they finally mention other possible locationsKim gets back with me after spending hrs dealing with the refusal of the home and Kim *** shows me a new locationIt's not ready for move in because it has just be aquired but I can't afford weeks in a hotel while I waitPlease be aware that they already have $3000+ of my money and are making it obvious that don't plan to let us just walk awaySo we accept the home and just move inI am told the landscaping will be done, some blinds will be fixed, the carpet cleaned (huge gross spot in the bathroom, still crunchy to the touch), and the garage door correctedI inform Kim that I have a small home carpet cleaner and will try to remove the spotIf I get up I will let her know so that don't have to send carpet cleanersI email them the move in sheet explaining all the damages I found and inform them my carpet cleaner has broken on my trip over here so carpet cleaners still need to be sentKim is on vacation so I'm bounced around a little as I explain my growing frustration with this company because we now have an HOA violation stemming from before our move in date which isn't our responsibility Finally someone tells me what is expected to be done aka lets me know landscaping will be handled and carpet cleaning isn't mentionedI confirm that it needs to be done and that I have been told it would get done, but since Kim is on vacation we will have to wait for her to confirm as the owners are stating that they will not get this fixed and had already told PPRM thisKim returns from vacations and I send her a text at 11am about the carpet cleaner confusion in hopes she will get this handledHer response came almost hours laterPlease be aware I also called and it still took hrs to respond to my message and callMoved in on 11/5/Messages between kim and I today below:
Call at 10:59a
Me @ 11:07am:
Kim,
I spoke with someone from pprm last Monday regarding some issues I'm having with my entire rental processDuring that phone call we spoke about the repairs needed for the homeWhen she didn't mention the carpet cleaning I brought it upShe called me back later to inform me that the owners stated they wouldn't pay for a carpet cleaning in the bathroom as the home is rented in an "As is" conditionThe issue with that is that I was informed that this would be handledI am trying to figure out exactly what is going on as I know this was mentioned which is how I explained my carpet cleaner and how they are necessary for people with pets to spot cleanIt is also the reason why I informed you my carpet cleaner broke and I was therefore unable to fix the stain like I thought I would be able to do Please let me know how we need to proceed to cover this-*** ***
(my address was here but I removed it obviously)
Kim's response @3:34p
I never said it would be dealt withI said they had been cleaned by previous owner and that with you moving in so quickly we couldn't send our guys outYou said it was ok you had a carpet cleaner It is marked that there is a stain and I have pictures of itI told you landscape would be done garage door and sets of blinds.@
My final response @ 3:36pKim,
I won't argue this one with you, but I can put it on my life you didIt's fineAs I stated you said it, my husband and I heard it, but that is fineIt is markedJust completely unacceptableCan't wait to leaveI don't understand how you can expect someone to move into a place that has a hole in the ceiling and deal with weeks of construction or tell them things will be done if they won'tIf you accidently say something wrong, own up to it and keep it moving, but to completely deny it is unacceptable** just remembered that Kim *** also promised to let me know what mailbox was mine before her vacation at the end of the weekShe never got it for me and then her company told me that it was on me to find which box was mine by going to the post office and askingPlease note the contract stars the mailbox is on me, but my realtor told me that she spoke to the owners frequently and would call to ask themWhen I never heard anything back I reached out to the person covering herKaren informed me that according to the lease agreement, tracking down my mailbox was on me and not themMy issue is, why aren't they all following the same rulesDon't tell me you will give me this info then never give itThen your coworker informs me that the contract says it on meThat is officially things Kim has said that she did not back with the support of her companyI have read the other review and would just like to also verbalize that I am a minority as well and my treatment from this company has just been disgustingMy treatment might be racially motivated or it might not be, but I think it should be seen that minorities are making complaints about a company and their inability to be honest, reliable, trustworthy, truthful, and even reachable half the timeGood luck with your move if you go with themFor me it has just been the worst I've dealt with

Review: My wife bought 2 plants with a 30 day guarantee with a 30 day warranty. Within 2 weeks, one plant started dropping leaves. She went back to Greenbrier & showed the plant to an employee and she said it looks like you might have over watered it and when my wife asked for a replacement, the owner came forward and said she didn't water it enough. He said he would not replace it. We have plants in our house that are over 50 years old and the other plant she bought is fine. She told the owner when it dies, she would bring it back & leave it in front of his store. He said to leave his property and never come back.Desired Settlement: $30.00 plus tax

Business

Response:

Based upon the behavior you exhibited at our store, which is the reigning small business of the year in [redacted], I will welcome you anytime to come in and apologize to our employees.

Consumer

Response:

I have reviewed the response offer made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and have determined that this proposed action would not resolve my complaint. For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.

This guy needs to apologize to my wife......the female employee was very nice but then the owner/manager got involved .....her only disagreement was with the owner/manager who would not honor their 30 day guarantee on plants.

Regards,
