Greenwood Painting

My wife and I had Greenwood Painting propose a bid for our house for the painting of our Cabinets, Doors, and Trim In our contract, Greenwood Painting stated they would be using an Enamel Paint, Caulking needed areas, and a clear coat on all caps They did not use Enamel Paint, they didn't do any caulking and there was no poly coat applied on caps I have had two other contractors come in and look at the work done and they couldn't believe that we were being told this was a quality job There are areas that you can see through the paint, On Doors there are areas of paint cracking There are many drips/runs There was paint on our stove and many paint dots all over our brand new flooring in which they also took a chip out of and scratched Everyone else that has came to our house since the work was done also has made a comment about how poor the quality of work looks and also said "I hope you didn't pay for this crappy work" Unfortunately we did pay half up front and have had

My company was called by [redacted]'s to estimate a paint job they had already started.  They wanted us to paint all their cabinets ,stair railings, doors and misc.  They already had started the job I asked which product they were using and we proceeded to go out to their garage...

and observe the can of Valspar paint . Made for doors and trim.  I have not used this product before but it said for doors and trim and Valspar is a good name so we decided to go with that.This way their work already done would match and not be a waste. I have a picture of customer holding can up so I could take a picture to go buy more.  They left the house to us for the week and we proceeded to take apart all the doors and cabinets to prep. We primed everything, sanded and caulked!!   Only thing not caulked was the cabinet doors and most people do not want them caulked even brand new. I have been in the painting business for 28 years and have MANY references that back we do quality work. The product was not wonderful even after we got to a second coat. At this point we decided to give it a third coat. We did clear coat the steps as discussed on original bid. The cabinets were not new and I think they were expecting a different result than was possible with what we had to work with.  I figured out a way to resolve this problem; a clear coat that we could put on the cabinets to give them a more durable finish and that is why I took one of their doors to make a sample. I asked them to help in absorbing the cost of the clear coat and they freaked out and demanded Insurance information and lawyers.  I have a lot of time into this job and have NO leverage on getting paid my remaining $3900.00. As you know there are two sides to every story and thanks for giving me a chance to share mine.  Basically the customer used the wrong Paint to begin with and I wish we would have used something I was used to using in the past. I have talked to several other painting contractors and they said they would have done the same thing in my situation.  Live and learn!   Thanks  Jim Greenwood  PS  there was paint drips on their floor before we even started the job. None of my guys dropped anything on their floor either as stated above damage.  I also have many before and after pictures. I have on of her scrubbing the paint which is not suppose to be done for 30 days of cure time.
