Greg Burnette Upholstery Reviews (1)

Review: I contracted with Mr. Burnette to upholster a chair for me. The total amount for the job was to be $550. I agreed to this amount. He picked up the chair on April 10, 2015. He wanted $250 of the money because he had to order material. I understood that. He brought the chair back to me on May 28, 2015. When he sat the chair down and got the swivel back on it, I noticed that he had added an edging around the bottom. I asked him why he had done that because I told him that it had never had this piece on the bottom. He argued with me that it had. After the swivel was put back on the chair. It made a real squeaking noisy when it was sat in. H did not have an explanation for that. He said he would return and pick up the chair and re do it for me. I paid him the other $350 That I owed him, in good faith that he would return and pick up the chair the way he said he would. This did not happen and he still has not returned to pick up the chair and this is October 28, 2015. He also took with him two of my sofa pillows that he said he would cover for me so they would match the chair. And he promised to make arm pieces for the chairs. When I would call him he would tell me that he was not able to work because of his toes. He was having a problem with his feet and I tried to be understanding. He has called a couple of times telling me that he would bring the pillows and material by but this has never happened. Also, after he left the day he delivered the chair, upon inspection, I noticed that the seat cushion was cut too small for the chair. It just did not fit. Also, the inside of the arms of the chair were not finished up and they were raw edges showing. When I confronted him with my complaints he got really angry with me. I started to tell him that I thought it only fair that he pick the chair up and redo all the botches. The last time I called him and asked him when he was going to pick up the chair and correct the mistakes, he told me that if I had anymore questions to call his lawyer, which would be asinine for me to do. He also told me that he would never be able to satisfy me and I told him that was not fair because he had not even tried. All of this was bad enough but then one day I was working out in the garden. he went by and threw up his hand and waved at me. Also, I know he is doing work for other people because he just ran an ad in the local paper advertising 20% off as a special. If he is able to work, he owes it to me to make this right. But you see, he has the $550 I paid him and now he does not want to use up the time he could be making more money by working on my chair. Because I will have to hire someone else to redo this chair, I want $275 and my sofa pillows back.Desired Settlement: I want the refund of $275 because I do not want to have anything else to do with him.

I have reviewed the response offer made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and have determined that this proposed action would not resolve my complaint. For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.

Mr Burnette did not address either of the main issues that I stated in the beginning of my first email to you, The issue of the chair cushion that was cut too small and the skirt he put around the chair without checking with me first. As I have said before, the chair never did have a skirt around it and it has been recovered several times by other well qualified people. The cushion is a T shaped cushion and must fit the chair the way it is supposed too. When Mr. Burnette took the chair from my house to work on it, I told him he could take the old cushion to use as a pattern. He told me that he did not need it. I still have the old cushion here at the house. I told him in one of our conversations about this problem that he could take my old cushion and just reupholster it but he told me "No". As for the skirt, the chair I am referring is a swivel rocker that tilts back. It never did have a skirt for this very reason. The skirt was not put on the chair, previously, because of it being a swivel rocker that is higher in the front than in the back. So this means, with the current skirt it is fine in the front but the back wads up under the chair because it is too long and does not belong there. The only offer he made was to cover the throw pillows and make the arm pieces, if I would give him a pattern. The thing is, he is offering to cover MY pillows with material that I paid for. Totally unacceptably. I want to have no more contact with this man and I want a check from him in the mail for $275. I feel this more than fair because of all the stress I have been under for the past 7 months trying to bring this to a favorable conclusion. I now will have to find someone else to redo all the things he botched up. This may even mean having the chair completely re done. I have had no contact of any kind with Mr. Burnette since my first email to you dated October 28, 2015.

I was just contacted by Mr. [redacted] that Mr. Burnette had left the pillows with him for me to pick up. I will do that tomorrow. The first time I heard anything about the pillows was through the email he sent to you. He still has not addressed the problem of the chair and the terrible mess he made of it. The throw pillows were mine anyway, and so was the material that I paid for.So that does not make up for him ruining my chair. It is an eyesore. I have pictures from all sides and inside the chair to prove what I am saying. I am surprised that Mr. Burnette would want the chair sitting in my living room as an example of his work. I am holding to my original request for a check from him for $275 to help pay to have someone else correct his mess. Seven months is just too long for this to go on. Oh, I forgot, my name is [redacted] not [redacted].
