Response to a complaint from [redacted], file number 1[redacted]8.    A work order was received on Saturday 4.29.17 form Old Republic Home Protection for a [redacted]. Address 8[redacted]ne, Riverside, CA 92508. Reason for call to Old Republic from [redacted] / [redacted]...

[redacted]: Pool/Spa problem. Spa had drained, pump running- not circulating water. Pump is leaking. This is stated on work order received on 4.28.2017. Wayne Hames from GSC WaterDesigns called Monday morning and spoke with [redacted]. Mr. [redacted] stated spa drain completely and pump not circulating water but was continuously. GSC Water Designs advised Mr. [redacted] to turn off pump, before other damage occurred, also scheduling a inspection of pump later that day. Mr. [redacted] stated he would leave access to backyard for diagnose of pump. Upon arriving on the Monday afternoon on 5.1.2017, pump was running without water, spa had been filled to normal level. Pool water level was below the skimmer, all valve set to normal postion. Pump had been running without water for such a long period when pump lid was removed what small amount of water in pump strainer was steaming. (Operating a pump without water flow will overheat pump and connected piping.) I was able to regain prime of pump (re-establishing water flow through system) with the homeowners garden hose by attaching a drain flusher to end of hose. This small devise simply pushes water through piping to remove air in system. (Using a garden to remove air cannot over pressurized a pump or piping.)   Once pump regained water flow pump ran normal. There are leaks on all gaskets/orings of pump due to pump running hot. Ran for many hours without water. This overheating was the direct cause of leaks. Also we are required to not and and all safety issues with pool equipment. Pool/spa heater was installed too close to home. Must be 4 feet away, installed too close to a window. Must be 4 feet away from any window opening or non-opening type. Carbon Monoxide can enter a home from the exhaust of a pool heater,  through worn sealant around a non-opening window and or closed door. This was reported to the Home warranty company on the morning of 5.2.2017. Seals and gaskets needs replacement, heater needs to be moved to meet all manufacturers spects.. I did inform Mr. [redacted] of this information, the safety of him and his family was the only motivation in reporting this dangerous issues. Any additional information,  please contact Wayne Hames, GSC Water Designs. [redacted]. I have over 35 years experience in the pool/spa industry. Wayne Hames
