shop policy is when a vehicle is scheduled in for diagnostics we verbally notify the customer there "may" be a diagnostic fee for inspecting their vehicle should they choose not to repair the vehicle at the time of inspectionMr*** brought his *** *** in to diagnose a heating
system issue (having no heat in the front heating unit & barely any heat from the rear unit) & scan check engine lightWe had more than hours in diagnosing the issue as previously stated but only charged for an hour labor plus sales taxMr*** was informed that we would deduct the diagnostic fee from the repair bill if he were to repair the entire problem that was diagnosedHe chose not to have repairs completed & so the diagnostic fee was chargedHe stated, to the owner, that no one else & his repair shop doesn't charges diagnostic feesThe owner then asked why Mr*** didn't take his vehicle to his repair shopMr*** then stated that he was from ***The owner stated that well they may do that in *** but we do not hereWe did not "hold his keys" ox threaten to involve the lawThe settlement Mr*** requested will not be accepted as we were more than generous by not charging for the entire time we had into diagnosing the issue as requested

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and have determined that this proposed action would not resolve my complaint. For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.
"Normal Shop Policy" was not followed in my case. I was not notified of a diagnostic fee nor was I asked to sign anything regarding one. Mr.Cottle told me he spent 1 hour not 2 examining my vehicle. There was no comment that I was "getting a break" because Canton Auto Repair was only charging me for 1 hour. Regarding the comment "They may do that in [redacted], but we do not do that here"; I called several auto repair shops (a list can be provided upon request) in and around the Greater Canton, Ohio area that do offer FREE diagnostic services for heating issues. I would have used one of them if Canton Auto Repair would have been upfront with me.Regarding the statement "We did not hold his keys or threaten to involve the law"; if this was not the case why didn't you simply give me my keys before I paid? I felt involving the law would have been my only alternative as Mr. Cottle was unprofessional and confrontational.
