Review: Guillermo Couture started working on 3 custom made dresses for my daughters wedding. My family were scheduled to be at the store every week for fitting for almost 2 months (every Wednesday.) We provided the design and how we wanted to our dresses to be made. Even though that we perceived some delay in the dressmaking we were patient because Guillermo Couture promised that they would keep the deadline (June **-June **.) It seems they were just procrastinating because on June **, 2014, it turned out that the dresses are not ready and the materials that Guillermo was using are not the same that we have chosen. They used the cheapest materials even though we expressed our concern about them. We paid $8,067.00 to the store so far for unfinished dresses. They know how important it was for us to finish the dresses but they disregard not only our wishes but the things we have already paid for. Our whole family is dissatisfied with the quality Guillermo Couture provided. It takes a lot of time and money to repair the dresses. So far, we paid another $2,500.00 for the repairmen of 2 dresses (the 3 dress is held by Guillermo Couture.) We are devastated over this kind of work. Therefore, we demand $8,067.00 that was paid to Guillermo Couture. Unfortunately, they rejected our demand for compensation. Guillermo Couture[redacted]Desired Settlement: A check of cash in the amount of $8,067.00.

Response:

I got a call from [redacted] saying that he wanted 2-3 dresses for his wife for their upcoming trip to Russia and made an appointment. He arrived with his wife and daughters. They gave me an idea of what they wanted and I made some sketches. We went back and forth with ideas. [redacted] has a challenging body and, with more that 25 years of expertise in making couture gowns, I knew what would look best, but they insisted on micromanaging the process. I tried to work with their requirements.

Before beginning work I asked for and was given a $3,000 deposit.

I sourced fabrics for them as we had discussed. The first round of fabrics were not to their liking. I went out and sourced more fabrics from different vendors. They were very difficult to please. Finally they approved fabrics which I then bought and moved on to fabric fittings.

Throughout the process she insisted the clothes should fit tighter and tighter again. With my expertise I disagreed but I accommodated her requests. I even made two house calls in Brooklyn in the evening. They had come to me in a short time to make these extravagant gowns so I wanted to move the process along.

Getting close to the the final fitting, [redacted] came with her daughters. They expressed disappointment with how they were looking. It made me very uncomfortable to hear their complaints as she had micromanaged the process. Finally, they left.

A few minutes later I got a call from [redacted] demanding a full refund for the project. I expressed to him how uncomfortable I was as I always try to please my customers.I explained that I could not give him a full refund. I was willing to refund part of the deposit (the parts for my time in making the patterns, sourcing the fabrics, the house calls, etc.) but I could not refund the cost of the fabrics which I had outlaid on their behalf. He threatened to call an attorney. I told him to do what he needed to do.

A few minutes later [redacted] came to the showroom, yelling and demanding to take the garments as they were, unfinished. I was willing to give him those and the leftover fabric as long as he signed for the release of the unfinished garments. He was yelling and screaming and trying to be intimidating and left without signing the release I had my assistant prepare.

I later got a letter from a gentleman claiming to be an attorney, not asking for the $3,000 deposit, but demanding $8,067 (!) with a date to pay by. I got a call from this attorney and he said if I didn’t refund the money I would “be in big trouble.” I then got a letter from the Revdex.com asking for the same amount.
