Gulliver's Travel of San Luis Obispo Reviews (1)

Review: Gulliver's Travel of San Luis Obispo promoted, recommended, and arranged a honeymoon to a resort that was unsafe, not as promoted, unsanitary, and unaccomodating. On our first night at the promoted resort, my wife and I were physically and verbally assaulted by another guest. We immediately notified our representative at Gulliver's Travel of San Luis Obispo, Karen Bainter, as well as local authorities and management. Attempts made by the representative did not result in the removal of the dangerous guest, or make up for the ruined first night. That same night, two hotel guests shouted violently at each other in a room next to ours--this was reported to Karen and the hotel, but nothing was done. The resort was described as a relaxing honeymoon destination by our representative. We were told that there would be few to no kids during our stay (a request made several times). The resort was flooded with kids at every turn. Kids even sat at the bars. Every daily activity catered to kids and families. Prior to depature, our representative took a brochure featuring a family and said, "like this, but without the kids," and covered the kids with her hand. This resort was very poorly represented by the agency--resulting in a lousy experience. The quality and preparation of resort food was advertised as gourmet and fresh. Every meal resulted in a stomach-ache for my wife. Our travel representative booked a honeymoon with the resort, but standard honeymoon ammenities (a banner, champagne on the first night, fruit, etc), did not show up until the fourth night at the resort--only after numerous complaints via email to the representative, and vocally to the resort. This is only a fraction of the laundry list. After realizing our best efforts wouldn't make up for all of the issues, we requested to leave or be moved on the sixth day. We were moved five days later. Very little communication was made by the agency, and we were stuck in a terrible experience five days after a plea for help was made.Desired Settlement: We are requesting to be refunded from Saturday, October 19th through Thursday, October 24th. We feel this request is fair considering we did not receive the quality honeymoon we paid for, the description was extremely misleading, it was an unsafe environment, and we requested to leave early during our stay.

I am rejecting this response because: based on numerous email evidence (attached), Karen promised a honeymoon with few or no children, but delivered a honeymoon where kids were a constant issue. In addition, Karen mislead us by stating that activities would be adults-oriented. The resort’s daily activities were solely for families and children. In retrospect, Karen didn’t even consult TripAdvisor prior to booking our resort. Several reviews clearly state that the “off-season” at Dreams Puerta Adventuras does not mean anything. Many reviews complain of the numerous children at the resort.

Karen previously informed us, and we were expecting, an ocean-view suite with honeymoon amenities, but when we arrived, the resort did not have the correct room or honeymoon amenities. Karen assured us that Dreams Puerta Adventuras was in a safe area, but on the first night, we were verbally and physically assaulted.

Based on the empty assurances, improper booking, delayed help, and the numerous lousy experiences, Ashley and I requested a refund for the nights of Saturday, October 19th through Thursday, October 24th. This refund would make up for the time period since our “first” request to move to another resort until we were actually moved. These five days at $188 per-day amount to our requested refund of $940.

Furthermore, the claim that "amenities" and "upgrades" amounted to $1,500 is not backed up with actual figures. The amenities referred to did not cost the resort money. We purchased a longer massage than the "20-minute massage" (so short it didn't even remove the stress knots from the first night). This amenity ended up making them money. Also, the amenity was done improperly, as we were rushed from the spa because they were "closing."

The "romantic dinner" amenity promised did not include food normal romantic dinners do (ie: lobster). Instead, food from the Portofino (restaurant) menu were carried an extra 50 feet. The resort did not pay extra for food, staffing, or area.

The "upgrade" to another resort was done within the same hotel family; and therefore, the resort did not loose our money. While the upgrade was great, it did not make up for the five days of waiting after the request was made to move immediately. The long delay was so bad, that we ended up wanting to return home more than switch resorts. We spent those days hiding in our room to avoid the kids and more terrible experiences. We feel that the amount requested is very reasonable considering the terrible honeymoon Gulliver's Travels booked.

Regards,
