Racial Profiling and Discrimination
I want to address a negative experience I had with a pre-owned reseller in San Antonio, Gurinsky's Fine Jewelry. They have deleted my posts and reviews, blocked me, and failed to address the situation. A few years ago, when I visited their store, I was immediately profiled, asked for ID, and accused of casing the business. The police were called, and I was escorted out like a criminal. They have never apologized and continue to suppress any negative feedback. They present themselves as top dealers, but they are racist and discriminatory in my experience.

04/06/RE: ID# [redacted] To Whom it May Concern: We are aware of the transaction that occurred February 26, where the customer purchased a diamond from our storeShe purchased an EGL certified diamond_ Her complaint should be with EOL not Ourinsky's Jewelers as EGL is the one that certified the diamond, not usThis transaction should be a lesson to all consumers to do their own research when making a purchase of this sizeIt is of my opinion that diamonds should not be purchased as an investment, they should be purchased to wear and enjoy and are subject to the individual's personal taste and styleShe purchased a round diamond and that is what she receivedIf she does not like the way it is described in the certification, we are sorryAs far as the valuation, the diamond industry is bound by The Rapaport ReportThe Rapaport report is the jewelry industry standard for the pricing of diamondsThe report is published weekly and given to jewelers and diamond merchants to set prices for consumersThe report is issued in the form of a table and prices diamonds based on the 4C's of diamonds - carat, color, clarity and cutSort of like the Kelley Blue Book for earsAgain, the opinion of Medlar's or any other jeweler she took it to makes no difference, only the opinion of the four industry independent certification labs which are: BGL, GIA, AGS and IGI with GLA and EGL being the leaders with the strictest scaleWe have and will continue to have a no refund policy because of the rock bottom prices we sell our goods atWe usually have less than a 50% (x2) markup while other jewelers such as Jarrod, Kays, Zales, etc have a 7x (+) markupWe try to keep a low overhead to give our customers the best possible pricesThat diamond in any of the stores I mentioned would cost at least $+ depending on the market at that timeThis customer got a great deal and should be gratefulHowever, if she is not happy we will be happy to exchange the diamond for another one of her liking or anything else in the store for that matter of comparable valueRegards, [redacted] Controller

Complaint: ***
I am rejecting this response because: Appraisals are for insurance purposesMedlars explained that these appraisals are inflated for that purpose You think you are getting a great deal because of their appraisal of 6,appraisal of the diamond And the fact that it is an old European cut diamond and several other jewelers told me that I would not be able to sell this ring but maybe for a few hundred dollars was offered How can you compare this with $6, Both the sales lady and owner were extremely rude when I tried to return the ring His sales lady, ***, slapped my hand practically knocking the ring out of my hand They refused to give me an exchange I've tried to sell the ring, and no one wants it! I went to several other jewelers and they said that they had never seen such a diamond cut and once discovered it was an old European diamond, they all said they would not sell one like this All other jewelers have a day return policy Gurinsky's hides their little sign behind the register and have huge signs throuhout the store for advertisement purposes Now, EGL has reportedly had some issues as to inflating their lab report It's on the website Even if they were to allow an exchange now, I wouldn't trust that they would inflate the true value of anything they have unless they give me a Round Brilliant Diamond which I could verify with another jeweler They could at least give me that courtesy

04/06/2015 RE: ID# [redacted] To Whom it May Concern: We are aware of the transaction that occurred February 26, 2014 where the customer purchased a diamond from our store. She purchased an EGL certified diamond_ Her complaint should be with EOL not Ourinsky's Jewelers as EGL is the one that certified...

the diamond, not us. This transaction should be a lesson to all consumers to do their own research when making a purchase of this size. It is of my opinion that diamonds should not be purchased as an investment, they should be purchased to wear and enjoy and are subject to the individual's personal taste and style. She purchased a round diamond and that is what she received. If she does not like the way it is described in the certification, we are sorry. As far as the valuation, the diamond industry is bound by The Rapaport Report. The Rapaport report is the jewelry industry standard for the pricing of diamonds. The report is published weekly and given to jewelers and diamond merchants to set prices for consumers. The report is issued in the form of a table and prices diamonds based on the 4C's of diamonds - carat, color, clarity and cut. Sort of like the Kelley Blue Book for ears. Again, the opinion of Medlar's or any other jeweler she took it to makes no difference, only the opinion of the four industry independent certification labs which are: BGL, GIA, AGS and IGI with GLA and EGL being the leaders with the strictest scale. We have and will continue to have a no refund policy because of the rock bottom prices we sell our goods at. We usually have less than a 50% (x2) markup while other jewelers such as Jarrod, Kays, Zales, etc have a 7x (+) markup. We try to keep a low overhead to give our customers the best possible prices. That diamond in any of the stores I mentioned would cost at least $5000.00 + depending on the market at that time. This customer got a great deal and should be grateful. However, if she is not happy we will be happy to exchange the diamond for another one of her liking or anything else in the store for that matter of comparable value. Regards, [redacted] Controller

04/15/2015 RE: [redacted] To Whom It May Concern: Tins is notification that the dispute between the customer not named and Gurinsky's Fine Jewelry has been amicably resolved as of today, 04/15/2015 to the satisfaction of all parties involved.Regards, [redacted] Controller

To Whom it May Concern,This is in response to a complaint we received about a purchase made in our store on 01/27/2016 by Mrs. [redacted]. Mrs. [redacted] purchased a solid 14kt white gold handmade link bracelet for her husband on 12/02/2015 for $831.41 + tax = $900.00. She came back on...

January 27th and requested a 26" necklace to match. She paid $2,771.36 + tax = $3,000.00. 26" is not a standard length of a necklace. Chains and necklaces typically come in 16", 18", 20", 24" & 28", this is typical industry wide.We have a no-refund policy due to the nature of our business and especially in this case, we had to have this custom made according to her specifications which also makes it a non-exchange purchase because the manufacturer will not accept it back. The necklace is not hollow, it is solid 14kt white gold. The bracelet is 7.5mm wide and 8" long and weighs approximately 9.0 grams and the necklace is also 7.5mm wide and weighs approximately 29 grams. It is very simple, basic math. We are regretful that they do not understand that and it is something that we cannot fix, but we don't believe that is basis for a refund nor do we understand how that is considered a scam. The claim that the necklace is lighter in weight than the bracelet is obviously false based on the facts above and because she did not bring in the bracelet to compare side by side when she came to pick up the necklace. She paid almost the exact same price per inch. There is a slight difference in price due to the fluxuation of the gold market on a daily basis and the extra labor charges to custom hand make this necklace. We are confident that our explanation is sufficient in closing this matter and the [redacted]'s should immediately
