Gus Construction Reviews (%countItem)

A part owner of this company *** entered a contract for the sum of 3k. This included paving a back yard patio using re-use pavers from my neighbor to match my existing pavers, trim existing tree, clean out garden section , pressure wash and seal patio once completed .

Contractor , *** agreed to purchase sand, river rocks stone, sealant and other material necessary to complete the coverage of the designated area. He agreed to 50% deposit and 50% at completion. He was given the 50% deposit, and then before the work was completed he requested another draw of $1k which I give to him in good faith . This left a balance owing of $500.00. Towards the final portion of the job I requested a meeting since the pavers weren't laid as agreed.

He then wanted more money which I declined, and he got into an argument and said he would not be completing the remaining work.

I now have to locate another contractor to do a rework, and re-route the gradient of the pavers since water is settling close to the air conditioning. In addition, finish the tiling of the exposed area not completed, as well as pressure wash and apply sealant which was part of the original contract. This would exceed the balance owing on this job of $500.00
Product_Or_Service: paver installation

Desired Outcome

Refund I would like to be refunded a portion so I can complete the unfinished work per contract.

Answer
I summit. On 02/18/ 20 a written estimate to miss ***.I got a deposit of $1500 50%
2 days later I started the project. The Scope of the work was
Install used pavers that she got from her neighbor how we got into the installation. I found a lot of the pavers she got from her neighbor where damage and can't be use on her patio . In order to finish the job the way she wanted I buy extra pavers which I told her she told me that was part of my contract.in my contract I was responsible. Just for 1 pallet I ended up buying pallet .Friday 02/21/20 the patio was complete I asked for another $1000 I told her she can pay me the balance of $500
When I finish the power wash and sealing Saturday I was back there after I finish the patio she want to add more pavers on the side of her House when I was looking for more pavers
Miss *** use my helper to mulch her garden and tress add bag of fertilizer and mulch trees outside of her patio no in the written contract .the pressure clean couldn't get done because it rained. Later that night she texted me asking for more river rock for other diferente areas no mentioned in the contract. I went back Monday to meet her then I told her about all the extra work and pavers and I told her that I cannot do all that for free
Again she told me that was part of our contract which isn't true
Also she pointed out an existing paver area previously installed several year ago and she asked me to fixed it again I told her that wasn't part of our contract. For that reason I told her that I didn't felled confident to perform the power wash and sealer (cost $520) out of fear she won't pay me the balance of $500 and use that to force me to do more work for free and keep telling that was part of our contract
I got voicemail and text from her asking for extra work after I have the project started and copy of our contract
I'm also asking her to pay me $800 for the extra paver and extra material which I have the recipes and she refused to pay me

Customer Response • Feb 27, 2020

(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
As explained I had 2 other quotes from different contractors whose price was also 3k,and the scope of the work was as follows:
1. The entire patio would be paved up to the fence leaving at least 2 feet from the fence line on the south and west side of the patio, and on the east side a portion would be left for the existing garden already defined. In addition the garden would be clean, and mulch . the tree would be trimmed, and trees behind the fence would also have new dirt and mulch provided by customer.
there were 2 options:
1. remove the existing and then redistribute throughout the entire area with new pavers to create a pattern so it dont show new and old.
2. Remove the old alongside the perimeter of the existing backyard and insert new pavers as a border. All new material/pavers provided by contractor.
3. this would also be done to the east side of the house where it house the airconditioning unit. Paying very close attention to the gradient so that the water all drain to the lake to avoid flooding,

*** was never present to supervise the work, so on Saturday I discovered that some of the areas weren't paved and requested it done as agreed upon, and I also noticed that the water was collecting on the east side after rain fell. I asked to meet with him, and he said he was on another job site. So took a day off work on Monday and called to request a walk through to correct any pending issues before the work was completed. I showed him the areas that weren't completed to satisfaction, and said I am concern about the water not running off towards the lake as I requested which would cause a problem if there is heavy rain. He then started an argument and said he is not doing it, and I should pay him some more money or get someone to complete the job I declined , and he left the premises.

My neighbor also use Gus Pavers during the same timeline and had many issues as well. They too filed a complaint with the general contractor as well. I can provide their contact information if you need to verify the facts.

I use Gus Pavers because I thought it would be convenient for both my neighbor and myself since they were providing me with their pavers. *** agreed to buy new sand , but he didn't. He used their sand. He was also told to keep the existing red rocks from the back yard, but he dispose of it. He was to provide the new pavers, river rock stones, and sand to fill the cracks once paved. He was TO PRESSURE WASH, and use a sealant to brighten the existing pavers but he didn't. He abandoned the job after getting a 2nd draw of $1k. I am extremely disappointed with his professionalism, and obvious breach of contract. I am requesting a remedy of $1,000 to complete the rework, pressure cleaning and sealant.

See attached picture which shows the before and after work done .
