Gutter Helmet did not complete the gutter work agreed to per the contract.
The gutter work that was contracted for was represented by company as completed. As such the bill was paid in full.
Subsequently it was found that the work was not fully complete to which the owner was notified (late July).
After multiple e-mails, the owner Ted M came out to inspect the work (late August) and agreed it have not been completed as contracted for.
I offered him to either refund the prorata difference or finish the work to which Ted decided to finish the job. It has been a month since his visit and several months since the job was paid for and at this time Ted has not responded to any e-mails or phone calls.
At this time I am requesting a prorata refund for the work not completed.

Desired Outcome

20' of gutter were not covered as the contract stipulated. I am requesting a refund of $8.30/ft plus applicable tax credited back to my credit card.

Company contacted to replace existing Gutter Helmet. Owner M agreed to clean gutter areas and trim trees with install. This work not completed.
We contacted the company April to replace our Gutter Helmet installed when we built our home. We were contacted by the owner Ted M a few days later. We explained we wanted to replace the existing Gutter Helmet due to age and because we recently replaced our roof. We said we continue to be very happy with the product and that we continue to recommend the product to others. We said if the gutters themselves need replaced, we should do this at the same time. We met M at the home on April 26 and upon his inspection he said the gutters looked fine. He provided an estimate to replace the Gutter Helmet product. We paid a sizable deposit on the job and discussed with M that we would like to be sure the existing gutters and soffit areas were cleaned when the new install was completed. We also asked that any tree branches be cut back away from the house as we do not have ladders to reach the trees, the gutters or the soffit. M assured us this would be taken care of by the installers. About eight weeks after our deposit, a two man crew showed up to install the product. They were very nice men who immediately said they were not informed the house already had Gutter Helmet on it - that this would have to be removed - that this would make the job an all-day project. They commented they never know what to expect on jobs (apparently our home situation was not unusual - per their comments they never know the details of the jobs they do). They did know about the cleaning and trimming though as they volunteered they would also be trimming back tree branches and cleaning the gutters and soffit areas. They said they were very far behind and were actually scheduled to install a big awning that day which had already been delayed 3 months. We discussed we didn't mind waiting a couple of weeks as we were actually re-installing the same product. They were happy to have extra time to work on the other job and agreed to reschedule our installation. We waited several weeks and early on a Saturday morning we got a call from installers waiting outside the home unannounced. Since we had plans with friends at the home that day, we apologized that we could not have the work done then. We said we would prefer a week day install date. They installers were very understanding and said that the company sent them out that way all the time just saying "the homeowners will be there". Several weeks and after our notices to the company later, we did have a crew return to the home and install the product on August 7. We were not at home during the installation but they left the invoice in the front door that we paid in full on August 10. M followed up on the invoice a day or so later. We discussed that the cleaning of the gutters and soffit areas, and the trimming of the trees back from the house was not done as we had agreed. He said he would have his crew return to do this. He said he wanted to get the rest of their money - this seemed very important. We said as a business person, we had worked with small companies most of our life and understood this so we had already sent his check. We said we assumed he would take care of the balance of our agreement and stick to his word. He said he would see to it. We have so far sent three follow up messages spaced over about 8 weeks. We have had 0 response from M. If we do not have the service performed to our satisfaction within the next 7 days, we may plan other appropriate recourse.

Desired Outcome

The service promised are to be completed to our satisfaction within the next 7 business days.

Gutter Helmet Piedmont Response

We do agree with some of Mr. statements but not all. His time frame may be off a bit but that is not the issue here.
Our people did trim trees over the gutters as we set forth in our agreement. We are not tree trimmers and do not have the ladder height nor the trimmers needed to fully trim trees. We are used to trimming where we are working. According to our people, we did trim back branches as far as we could reach so as to not put ourselves in danger. Again, our primary work is NOT as tree trimmers but we xix what we felt we could do at that time.
As the leaves fall this autumn, the trees will be even farther off the roof due to weight loss.

The house cleaning is an issue. This home has many large areas of spider webs over the soffit and onto the brick and over the windows. This is something that we may be able to help with by use of a broom. We don't clean houses and highly recommend a professional pressure washing company. We will never be able to remove them all. Again, we can probably knock down some of them.

We are willing to come back out and address what we can. I do not want Mr. to think that we are ignoring him. That was never our intention. We just want to be able to do what we can do and not things that we cannot. He needs a tree service to trim further and a pressure washer to clean properly. We will schedule a time to come back and see what we may do.

Customer Response

M*** agreed to the cleaning and trimming work at the time of agreement on April 26, 2017 when we paid a large deposit. Two separate installation crews specifically noted the requirement for this work to us personally. These are actionable facts. The installation occurred months later when we were not present on August 7, 2017 and this work was not done. We still sent full payment to M on August 10, 2017. We followed up on August 24, September 6, and September 20, 2017 but had zero response from M. Our timeline is not 'a bit off' - our background and training requires we maintain extremely accurate records. M knows what was agreed to and what remains to be done. He simply needs to send people to the home to do it. We do not have time for additional meetings. If the work is not completed shortly we will consider other recourse.

Customer Response

We appreciate M's (owner) offer to meet - now only after our numerous attempts to get him to return to complete the work agreed to at the time we contracted him in April, then waiting until August for the install, still paying him in full 3 days later. As stated prior, we do not have time for additional meetings. M knows what was agreed to and what remains to be done. He simply needs to send people to the home to do it. If they trim, and clean the gutters and soffit on just the front of the house we will not require other work. We must require M's assurance they will not place or lean ladders on the new Gutter Helmet of course so it will not be damaged.

Gutter Helmet Piedmont Response

We have scheduled the work at Mr. home for Tuesday, October 31. We do not have an exact time yet. We will do our best to trim what we can and clean the front. This should take care of this issue.

Failure to meet committed dates for service, failure to return phone calls. Poor communication for establishing when work will be done.
The contract provided by Gutter Helmet states the customer will never have to clean their gutters again. This product when installed near trees around my house requires cleaning the gutters every two to three years. In the psst Gutter Helmet has performed this service without any issues, however this latest request has been a nightmare in getting them to return calls, no show on committed dates without notification. When we have talked on the phone they have complained about having too much work and demonstrating a defensive position. They showed up at my house without notice and left a note on my door "stating sorry we missed you-all down spouts good to go". I was promised by the scheduler, Marie I would be called and the details of the clean out would be finalized with a window of what time they would be here. She never called me back. I called Marie and told her what the note said. She asked if it stated they inspected the gutter and I said no. She indicated all of the gutter was to be checked not just the down spouts. I told her I had weeds growing in the gutter where the water was backing up from debris. She stated she would talk with the crew and find out what they did and call me back. She never called back. I took photos of the weeds and called her(she never answered) and left a message again on her phone and she has never returned my call. Weeds growing in the gutters is certainly an indication they were never checked or cleaned out. She has yet to call me back. At this point I had enough of them ignoring me and decided to escalate this to the Revdex.com.

Desired Outcome

Requested settlement: return to my home on a set schedule when I can be here and observe their work and do the job right as required by the life time contract. If any damage has been sustained on my house as a result of the water overflowing I expect Gutter Helmet to pay for any repairs

Gutter Helmet Piedmont Response

We have been to Mr. home many times over the past few years. We have always done the work he requested and we are happy to do this. Most recently, we have tried to go to Mr. home and again do the same work again. We called and told him it would be in the afternoon. (He does request that he be present when we are there) We arrived at 12:15 in the afternoon and he was not there as he told us later he needed to run an errand so was not home. What should we do? Our people are paid for job completion so they did not stay long, did some work and left. Hew did not return while we were there. We checked the gutters and found NOTHING wrong and left a note stating same. Mr. claims he has taken pictures of the problem but we have never seen them. My email is shown below and I would like to see what he is talking about. Our warranty states that you will never clean your gutters again and that you will be clog free. We live by this and are willing to work with Mr.. From this point, we will REQUIRE that he be there to point out any problems as we cannot find them. We cannot give a set time unless it is first thing in the morning. Other work prevents us from being accurately on the clock. Some jobs take longer than others. We have tried to call Mr. every time to arrange work times. I doubt, seriously, that there are weeds growing out of the gutters as this simply does not happen, especially on a home that is not in a forest but in a nice subdivision like his. There may be some pollen attached or sticking to the panels but not weeds. We are more than willing to work with him. Our product prevents debris from entering the gutter. As of now, we have not been able to find anything in his gutters but are willing to go out again and look and fix. We will contact the customer and "try again."

Customer Response

(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
I do not accept the response based on the following:

Gutter Helmet has spun a nice defensive narrative to my complaint, however, it does not portray accurate and correct statements. I will cover each area in a simple and accurate format.

Company response: We called him and told him it would be in the afternoon. (meaning appt. time)

Fact: I called Gutter Helmet on July 3,2017 (as they had not returned my call) and requested an appointment. Marie (scheduler) complained to me how busy they were and they could come out on July 7 or 10. I chose the 10th in the PM. She stated I will have to call you back tomorrow and confirm to ensure the date is good after I check the schedule and talk with the crew. She never returned my call. Did not know if they were coming or not!

Company response:
We checked the gutters and found nothing.

Fact: As stated previously I received no confirmation of the appointment. I waited several days and all morning of the 10th and no call. I had to run a quick errand and was only 15 minutes from the house. No Call. They showed up and put a sign on the door "sorry we missed you". A professional courtesy call to my cell and I would have returned immediately. Again,"NO CALL FROM THE APPOINTMENT SCHEDULER ALL WEEK).

Company response:
Mr. claims he took pictures of the problem area and has not showed them.

Fact: I took two photos that have now been sent to you. I sent them in a follow-up as an attachment to the Revdex.com complaint. You should have them now-they are dated July 14, 2017. They clearly show weeds and debris in the problem area.

Company response:
We have tried to call Mr. every time to arrange work times.

Fact:
Gutter Helmet Piedmont has never called me to set up an appointment.

Company response:
I doubt seriously there are weeds growing out of the gutters as this simply does not happen

Fact:
Ref. two photos as identified above.

Company response:
Home is not in a forest.

Fact: My house is situated with a growth of gum and pine trees 15 feet off the west side of the house. They are approximately 40 feet in height. As prevailing winds generally come out of the west they blow tree debris on my house and into the gutters. This is why I have the clogging problems.

Company response:
Our product prevents debris from entering the gutter.

Fact:
Although the affixed gutter helmet does help protect against debris from entering the gutter it does not stop all of it from washing off the roof and following the stream of water over the helmet and curling right into the gutter. Again, this is why Gutter Helmet Piedmont has been to my house on several occasions over the years to unclog the down spouts and and clean out the gutters.

Summary:
I am very disappointed with this company as they have worked with me in the past with no problem. I did not expect an angry defensive response to my complaint. I have been patient in working with these folks but found nothing was getting done. I regret it has culminated into such an elevated disagreement.

Gutter Helmet Piedmont Response

We went to see Mr. on Thursday, July 27. We did find an issue with his Gutter Helmet in the area he was concerned about. That area was corrected and should be OK. We will all monitor and make sure it does not happen again etc. Also, there was another area of concern on the front of the home and we were able to make a change in that to help that situation. At this time, all seems good and Mr. should be back up and running properly.

Customer Response

(The consumer indicated he/she ACCEPTED the response from the business.)
Accepted as stated by Gutter Helmet Piedmont response, the areas corrected would be monitored to ensure no further issues return.
