H & S Paving

On January 29, 2020 Harry S introduced himself as president of H & S Paving and came to pave a side drive and circular drive in front of our house. He said he might not have enough material for both. I said pave the side drive first. When his equipment arrived much later his packer fell off the truck while being unloaded and was useless. He agreed to level our driveways and pave them both.

I asked him 4 times for an estimate for the job. He would only say $1.45 per square feet but not give me a total dollar amount. On several different occassions he asked if I planned to pay in cash or by check. Each time he was told by check.

Several hours later as his crew was working he came to say that the total for the job would be $8,750.00 but would only charge $8,150.00 if we would pay in cash or any part of the total in cash. Since we were unprepared for this price he insisted on following us to our bank to make arrangements. He refused a check made payable to H & S Paving and insisted the check be made payable to Harry S.

When we returned home his crew was gone. The driveways were not level or packed down. He said our drives would look just like the road in front of our house. There were ruts in the loose gravel made by his heavy trucks. Rainwater collects in several low places. Grass was growing through the gravel after only 1 week. He was to return to seal the drive in a week or later. He has not returned. The job is incomplete. Our drives are not paved only loose gravel.
