Haas Auto Service Reviews (1)

Review: We originally brought our vehicle to HAAS Auto Service on or around August 23, 2013 to have a problem looked at by the owner, [redacted] Haas. The problem was what appeared to be black oil/fluid in the coolant system. [redacted] Haas told us that he was certain that the problem was a bad oil cooler allowing oil to seep into the coolant system. He diagnosed this without performing any tests. This is an internal oil cooler that requires extensive work to be able to access the oil cooler and diagnose the problem. This was explained to us by an [redacted] dealership service manager and a certified factory trained [redacted] technician. [redacted] Haas of HAAS Auto Service verbally quoted us a price not to exceed $1,500.00 to fix the problem. I verbally agreed. It took approximately 10 days to finally complete the repair. On September 4th, 2013 when we received the invoice, it was $665.00 higher than what was quoted. (Please Note: $188.00 of that was for an unrelated tail light repair). We were never notified of the additional cost over the price quoted. I did not make a big deal out of it and just paid the total [redacted] of $2,165.65. [redacted] Haas assured me that the problem was fixed. After only a couple hundred miles, we noticed the exact same problem, black oil like fluid in the coolant system. We brought the vehicle back to HAAS Auto Service immediately. The owner was very defensive and said that it is now something totally different causing the problem. The owner, [redacted] Haas put his hand on my shoulder and told me verbatim "Don't stress over it [redacted], I'm going to take real good care of you."

Our vehicle sat in his shop for nearly a month. Although it looked EXACTLY the same as the previous problem of black oily fluid, the owner said that this was a totally different problem now and that it was in the engine head allowing carbon, fuel, etc. into the coolant system. We were very skeptical, but allowed [redacted] Haas to make the "new repair" to the vehicle. Please keep in mind this was only a couple hundred miles after we paid HAAS Auto Service $2,165.65 to fix this problem. They parked our vehicle in his shop for nearly a month before completing the "new repair". The work was completed on November 19, 2013. We were handed ANOTHER [redacted] for $2,865.45. I was shocked but paid the bill. That is a total of $5,031.00 to "fix" this problem. In addition, when they put things back together, they did not secure the clamp on the turbo intercooler or properly attach the starter wiring harness, causing us to break down on 2 occasions.

Speaking with several [redacted] dealer service managers in this region, they have never recalled seeing the 2 common causes of this black oily fluid in the coolant happen nearly simultaneously and that most likely one of the diagnosis was incorrect. Again, I just paid the [redacted] and wanted our vehicle back. This vehicle is typically not driven in the winter. Recently, we drove the vehicle and noticed the exact same problem again! This time we took the vehicle to an [redacted] truck dealer specializing in this type of vehicle for a complete diagnosis at a cost of $360.00. The problem that we specifically paid HAAS Auto Service $2,865.45 to fix was indeed not repaired correctly. PLEASE NOTE: WE HAVE ALL DETAILED WORK ORDERS/ INVOICES RELATED TO THIS REPAIR. IN ADDITION, WE HAVE THE PROBLEM DIAGNOSIS FROM AN [redacted] DEALER SERVICE DEPARTMENT AFTER THESE PROBLEMS WERE SUPPOSEDLY REPAIRED. We would be happy to forward these documents to you for your review. We brought the vehicle back to HAAS Auto Service the next day, on February 11, 2014 for the owner to once again, for the 3rd straight time, fix the same problem. Instead of being apologetic and trying to make things right, we felt his response to us was very elusive and dishonest, as he was looking for something else to blame the problem on so he could charge us for another repair to correct the original problem. The owner, [redacted] Haas was not willing to acknowledge their mistakes, as doing the right thing would have required a lot of his free labor to rectify the problem. VERY DISAPPOINTING AND DISHONEST! Their warranty on their invoices clearly states "Warranty on parts and labor is one year or 12,000 miles, whichever comes first." We have driven the vehicle a total of 668 miles since the initial repair in September. At this point, we have no choice but to pay another company thousands of dollars more to properly fix the problem. I have never posted a bad review on the Revdex.com or any other website about any company as I understand that this is how he makes a living, but his lack of integrity and honesty warranted this action.Desired Settlement: We are asking for a full refund of $5,031.00 on the repairs so we can have the work completed properly by a certified [redacted] dealer/repair shop.

Response:

To Whom It May Concern,This charge is for repair work performed on a Commercial Truck <Power Wash Plus Inc) on 08/06/2013, [redacted] dropped his 2000 [redacted] box truck off to see why motor oil was in coolant. After running diagnostics and pressure testing systems I found Oil cooler cracked and explained to owner this is a common problem with these trucks, replaced oil cooler and saved it to show owner crack in cooler. On 09/04/2013 I completed work Repair Order [redacted] (Attached Fax) in early November 2013 [redacted] dropped truck off due to very black soot in cooling system overflow and running rough. I performed diagnostics and found exhaust and unburnt diesel fuel in cooling system, exhaust in cooling system from Head Gasket Blown from years of overheating truck and Owner attempting Improper Repairs. Owner immediately told me I was wrong and that I must have damaged the gasket from previous repair on oil cooler. I reluctantly tried to satisfy the owner and removed oil cooler and pressure tested it and found no issues with it or the repair. I informed the owner head needs to be removed to solve problem, I removed head and head gasket blown and head warped an exhaust valves about to break off, so I performed complete valve job, had Head milled and discounted a $6000 job down to $2800. I also called the owner when engine was apart to show him all the parts that needed to be replaced and work that I was performing. He seemed to understand and be satisfied. On 02/12/2014, the driver for [redacted] dropped truck off and told me he was driving it all day and temperature gauge was pegged showing engine overheating, yet still drove it until [redacted] told him to drop it off here <Day before heavy snowfall in Northern Virginia> I looked at truck quickly next day and the truck had no coolant in system and found traces of coolant leaking out of the water pump and a small coolant hose on the heater control valve was leaking. I explained to the driver my preliminary diagnosis and I would let him know the next day what exactly needs to be done to fix the truck. He said, “no problem its winter and we don't need it now”. Two hours later at 6:30PM, a half hour after we close for business, [redacted] pulls up demanding his truck “Right now”. I tried to approach him three times and all he said was, “I have nothing to say to you, give me my truck NOW”. So when when I walked back to start moving the 9 cars we pulled into the shop for the night, my lead technician tried to talk to him to see what he was so upset about and **. [redacted] proceeded to tell my employee, “he was going to sue all of us.” I am a senior Fully ASE certified Auto and Truck Technician with over 40 years experience. In summary, the work we performed on RO # [redacted] was done exceeding industry standard and all approved and explained in full detail to the owner of why and what we were doing to his [redacted] Truck. If there is any other documentation or information you may need you may contact me directly and I will get it to you as quickly as I can.Yours Truly,
