Our store carries a strict and well posted “No Refunds, No Exchanges Policy,” due to the nature of the products we sell and the fact that we don’t know what our customers do to them once they’ve left. Ms *** came to our store, purchased a torch lighter for $14.99+tax and leftShe came back
approximately an hour later, demanding a refund, and was actually the first one to start cussing at our employee; she seemed to be in a different state of mind compared to when she came in for the initial purchase. During the second encounter she told the employee and the manager on duty that she had taken the lighter apart before it malfunctionedThe manager explained to her that we do not offer refunds or exchanges and asked her to leave due to her highly confrontational natureWhen she refused to do so, the manager then started yelling, demanding that she leave our property, as we are not liable for defective products, especially ones that we suspect have been used for illicit purposes and have been taken apart by the customer. Once Ms *** left, we received a phone call from her daughter, again demanding a refund, which we explained was not our policy, at which point she was told that we would call the police. The fact that this lighter “caught her moms arm on fire” is due to the customer taking apart a device that was not intended to be deconstructed and is her own fault, not oursWe have been selling the same and similar products for the entire years we have been in business and have never had any complaints of product failure.
