Review: I had a C-section at Hackensack University Medical Center and delivered on November 2, 2014. While in the ER, many health professionals were present. My OB and the hospital both participated with my insurance policy. For months after the surgery, I received numerous bills from this practice in the amount of $230.00, specifically on behalf of Christina [redacted], RN. After I called each time I received a bill, I had to direct them on how to bill for a newborn (you wait to bill until the insurance policy picks up the new member, usually 8 weeks). I didn't hear back for a couple of months. I recently received a collection notice saying I owed the practiced 84 dollars and change. After calling numerous times, and letting them know that I was fully covered at the time, they informed me that they do not participate with my insurance company. I contacted my insurance company and the hospital and they both informed me that she should have billed under my doctor, because when staff is in an OR, they agree to the contracted terms of the surgeon and do not bill the patient. The patient has no control over who enters the room and if they did, they would make sure everyone participated in their health plan. After my 7th phone call to the HUMG regarding this easily correctible issue, and letting them know what the hospital and my insurance company said, they REFUSED to resubmit the bill correctly under my surgeon's name. They have accepted an in network payment from my health insurance company and are now trying to bill me for an out of network fee that I am not responsible for.Desired Settlement: I want them to bill my insurance the CORRECT way, under my doctor, Dr. M. Alvarez's name, and stop billing me, and call off the collection agency.
