I [redacted] took over managing Hailey Auto Exchange May 1st of 2015. Two weeks later my technician had brought to my attention that a customer we had sold a vehicle to years prior had authorized some transmission work to be done for her. My employee mentioned now this client is unable to pay for...

it. The vehicle was a 2003 Land Rover owned by [redacted] which is who authorized the repair. She entered my office after the repair was complete and started off by saying she loves our technician and equally loves the vehicle. She mentioned the vehicle has had problems in the past but that she has always been taken good care of by my dealership. She added that she has had hard times and pleaded that if I could release the vehicle she promised to make large payments on the bill. [redacted] mentioned that it was her only transportation and would be negatively affected even more financially if left without a vehicle. Against my better judgment but out of compassion for her situation I agreed to help her out for she seemed sincere, honest and trustworthy. I released the vehicle to [redacted] and she never attempted to pay the bill.Months later I received calls from my staff informing me that [redacted] had parked the vehicle in front of our dealership with a sign saying that we were unethical. Some of the text on this sign read that we had sold a vehicle with a SALVAGE tittle, tampered with the odometer and sold it to her knowing of previously existing mechanical problems. I found out that also she was slandering our reputable organization on Facebook and making statements that never happened.I phoned [redacted] and asked what I can do to make her happy and get the negative publicity to stop. [redacted] aggressively told me that if I did not cut her a check for $9500.00 for the vehicle (Market value now thousands less) she would pursue my store through attorneys, Revdex.com and any other newspapers/social-media they can find to tarnish our business name.I asked her to give me twenty four hours to do my research but assured her that depending on my findings I would absolutely do the right thing. I mentioned that I would make a decision that was fair and legal to all parties involved. In doing this research I discovered that every single accusation made against us was not true. #1 SALVAGE / BRANDED TITTLEI immediately called Idaho D.M.V and the tittle has no branding on it.#2 ODOMETER TAMPERINGThe vehicle was sold as miles "exempt" because any vehicle sold in Idaho ten years after manufacture build date will have a tittle that reads miles exempt. Also, I found out that tampering with this make and models odometer is essentially impossible.  The reason she felt she could accuse us of this is because the car fax mentions it was a stolen/recovered vehicle. When this happens typically the owner does not do an odometer statement on the mileage. Often after the recovery, especially when insurance claims are paid, the owner never takes possession of that vehicle again.#3 REPAIRS PERFORMED INCORRECTLYWhen [redacted] pleaded for me to release her vehicle without payment for the transmission work, she made no mention what so ever of unsatisfied mechanical work. Actually she mentioned she was impressed with how my staff has "bent over backwards" to help her out over the years. Recently (30 days ago) I had to dispute her claims with my credit card merchant for she had filed paperwork with them saying the charges made were not legitimate. They almost back-charged us for every transaction she made with us on her credit card. Claiming work performed by my staff was incorrect. They have not taken the money as of yet but it is currently being decided on by my credit card vendor on these transactions that span over years. Also she signed numerous documents saying AS-IS at the time of her original purchase of the Land Rover. This particular model is known in the industry to be problematic with age and miles.[redacted] made false accusations that will negatively affect us for years. After all of this time and energy spent on this issue I placed the call and shared my discoveries with her. I was cordial enough to politely ask her to stop her campaign on my business and offered a trade-in value on the Land Rover that exceeded retail value. [redacted] rudely declined. We take great pride in our business practices and customer satisfaction is priority #1. I tried to resolve Mariah's problems any way possible but there was no reasoning with her as she claimed she will destroy our business if I don't produce her $9500.00 now.
