Hakuyosha International, Inc. Reviews (2)

December 3, 2014 Dear valued customer,
Please excuse the delay in
responding to your dissatisfaction with the work we have provided to you. I have reviewed the history regarding your
complaint and have discussed in detail the issues of your air
conditioning
system with the technician and our accounting department. I understand your frustration with the
process and want you to know that we do have your best interest in mind. Please be assured that our company wants you
to be fully satisfied with the results we will offer you and a dependable
system thereafter
The following is rather technical
in nature but please bear with me so that I may provide as clear an
understanding as possible
In the process of repair, the
technician must first find the primary reason a unit is not working. This process can often be more than one
step. Until the primary failure is
addressed, secondary issues cannot be previously diagnosed. In your case, the primary issue was a low
refrigerant charge. Unable to locate the
leak, our technician topped the refrigerant charge and added the stop leak to
the systemNormally a system does not require additional refrigerant unless
there is a leak. The unit was working
well when he left and then acted up in the heat of the day some time
later. The problem was intermittent and
catching it in a failure state took more than one visit. On one occasion the technician found the
compressor in a temporary failure condition.
The capacitors were intended to correct a likely hard start problem with
the compressor. This apparently still
did not fully correct the problem because it happened once again and this time
‘in the act of failure’. The compressor
overheated in a run condition even when it shouldn’t have. With all other components providing the proper
support to the compressor, the technician advised to either replace the
compressor or the entire condensing unit.
As you have mentioned, you
purchased this house as a repo which leaves everyone without a history of what
sort of problems there has been in the past.
The furnace and air conditioning units are years old. Talking with my technician alerted me to some
irregularities in the way the air conditioning was originally installed or
since modified. First, for some unknown
reason, there was a large opening cut into the return plenum in the garage. This is a dangerous situation that he made
you aware of and you promptly corrected that.
He also mentioned that the cooling coil had an expansion valve installed
just outside the coil. Normally this
unit would utilize a piston type expansion device located in the coil box. It remains unclear why an expansion valve was
added to the system or if the piston has been removed. This configuration cannot allow the system to
operate at factory design specifications.
Next is an irregularity in the copper line sizing from the evaporator to
the condensing unit. It apparently
changes size in the short distance that it is run. This can interfere with proper oil return
back to the compressor. Finally there is
the issue of a small leak somewhere in the system that although stop leak has
been installed, the problem could reoccur in the future. The leak, without a source revealed, could be
in the cooling coil, line set or in the condensing unit. It could be caused from a poor solder joint,
copper hardening, loose fitting or an acidic reaction from contamination in the
system. Another trip this winter
revealed the thermostat was miss-wired for your heating. We corrected that for you at no charge. It would appear to me that the system was
originally installed by less than a professional
With consideration of all stated
above, my best recommendations are as follows:
Your condensing unit uses an
obsolete refrigerant that is becoming more expensive every month. It is being phased out by the Environmental
Protection Agency and consequently will be unavailable sometime in the future
or at best, even much more expensive than it is today. Replacing the condenser or the compressor
does not provide a long term solution. Neither
replacement resolves the issue of a leak somewhere, an improperly sized line
set and an expansion valve that doesn’t belong there.
What I would like to propose is
to replace the condensing unit, the coil and the line set with a system that
utilizes the new ‘Ozone Friendly” refrigerant.
In this way the cooling system is matched for maximum efficiency and it
would have a five year parts warranty.
It would also eliminate the other concerns of the line set size,
expansion valve and leaks that might reoccur in the old components
The price to install this new
equipment would come to $5,plus tax.
As you requested, I would apply the $1,that you already spent
toward the invoice total. I realize this
is more of an outlay of money than you probably planned on so I would also be
happy to offer financing. With approved
credit, I can provide a month equal payment plan with 0% interest
In closing, I believe a long term
solution is in the best interest of both of us.
I am sorry that the work we provided did not meet a successful end but
we did make our best effort to resolve your cooling repair promptly and
effectively. Unfortunately, it didn’t
work out that way, at least not yet anyway. Thank you for the
opportunity to come to a satisfactory resolve
Best Regards,

Ms. [redacted] had her vehicle towed to ourfacility from another shop sometime around September 24th 2014. Ms [redacted]mentioned that it was at two other shops but their repair estimates were"too expensive," Ms. [redacted] has/had a working relationship with anacquittance of one of our technicians...

who agreed to look at it outside of theshop tin an effort o save her some money. The customer was notified at thattime that the engine had a broken piston rod that had pushed through the engineblock — the motor would need to be replaced. The vehicle sat on our lot at no charge tothe customer until the beginning of February when Ms. [redacted] decided that shewanted repairs done to the vehicle. She spoke directly with Tony Santo's —owner — and we arranged a cost effective replacement for her. The vehicleinformation was logged into our shop at that time on February 2nd andan estimate was given for the engine replacement. The customer elected to havea used engine installed with a 6 month parts only warranty. It should be notedthat the engine was not rebuilt as the customer stated in her complaint. Theold engine was removed and the new engine was installed with a new timing belt, drive belts, spark plugs and torque converter seals (parts required to performa quality used engine replacement). The engine replacement came in at estimate. There was an extra charge for a battery that was also needed as hers had deadcells and would not start the vehicle. Customer was notified and understood thenecessity for replacement. It should be noted that we drove the vehicle formany miles at moderate speeds to confirm that the engine was working asexpected. At no time did we experience a problem with the gear shifter duringroad testing. We did note that the tires on the rear of the vehicle wereunsafe, and the right front wheel hub bearing was making noise. The wheelbearing in particular was very loud, which may account for the noise she washearing. Ms. [redacted] declined any further repairs and stated that she intendedto sell the vehicle shortly after the repairs were completed. Vehicle was delivered on February 11th.2015Ms [redacted] contacted us on February 20th to inform us that the vehicle would not comeout of park. After a short phone consultation we requested that the vehicle betowed to us for inspection. Upon inspection we found that the gear shifterassembly was broken. It had appeared to have been forced and that force brokethe linkage at the bottom of the shifter assembly. We removed the cable fromboth the broken shifter and the transmission to confirm that the shifter cablehad become frozen. Ms. [redacted] was notified of our findings and given adiscounted repair option as a show of good faith — shedeclined the repair and had the vehicle towed from our shop.It should be noted that the engine startedand ran without issue when the vehicle was reinspected on February 20th. It didnot make any unusual noise when running. When the transmission was shifted intogear manually after the shifter cable was disconnected from the transmissionlinkage, the transmission engaged in drive and operated as expected. We cannotconfirm or explain why the shifter cable froze after the customer took positionof the vehicle, but it was not a part of our original repair as it worked asexpected when the vehicle was tested and delivered. Ms. [redacted] was not chargedfor the subsequent inspection of the cable issue. In summary:The gear shifter cable problem is a separate condition not relatedto the engine replacement. The broken shifter assembly was caused by thecustomer attempting to force the vehicle into gear. The engine replacement workquoted to and requested by the customer was complete and functioning asexpected as of the inspection done on February 20th. While we certainlyempathize with the customer, the issues they are experiencing are not relatedto the work we performed. Copies of the work invoices are attached..
