Hales Corners Floor Covering Reviews (2)

Review: I contracted with Hales Corners Flooring for new linoleum in my kitchen for $660.00 I paid $300 down and $360 upon completion of installation. "[redacted]" their installer came to my condo on 9-9-14 to install the new floor. He was here for about 10 minutes and then decided I needed to have plywood installed over the floor before he could put the new linoleum down. He left for about a half an hour and returned with plywood which he installed and then the linoleum. He then informed me I owed an extra $90 for the plywood; I asked to see a sales receipt for the newly-bought plywood which he could not produce. I wrote a check for the agreed upon $360 but told him I wanted a copy of the $90 extra cost from the store he allegedly bought it at.

A couple of days later I received an additional bill from the store for $90. I then called the store questioning this expense and I received a very convoluted explanation which I really did not understand. I feel Hales Corners Flooring decided they had not charged me enough for this very small kitchen area (7'6" by 7") and decided to sell me a bill of goods that their installer had to purchase the plywood. Why couldn't they produce a receipt? I stupidly paid the extra $90.00. However, I will never do business with them again nor recommend them to anyone else.Desired Settlement: I would love to see the receipt of so-called purchased dry wall of 9-9-14 and if they can't produce this, I would want a full refund of my $90.

Response:

Just to clarify, we put in a Sheet Vinyl not a true "Linoleum". As a salesperson/estimator when we're first in someone's home, we don't have a commitment at this time. We don't get to take 1/4 rounds off or cut open floors. We make an educated guess as to what might work best to prepare the old floor (which will be the subfloor) for the new floor. In this case, the sales person thought we could use an embossing leveler to prepare the old floor. My installer [redacted], with over 35 years of experience installing vinyl flooring, determined that the best possible subfloor to give the new floor a chance to last the longest, would be a 1/4" plywood. There were 2 old floors down already, there were some parts of the old floor missing, due to some water damage. So the $90.00 extra charge was not just for 2 sheets of plywood. It's for the difference of using embossing leveler, to purchase 2 sheets of plywood, prepping the old floor, stapling and installing the plywood, sanding and leveling the seam of plywood. All of this was done to ensure a good stable subfloor for the new floor. Given this explanation, if this consumer sees no value in putting the proper subfloor down. I would gladly refund her $90.00. Also I was never contacted personally to explain this.

I had my carpet measured, put deposit down. when carpet was to be installed the measurement was incorrect. Was told I would get a call with in an hour of installers leaving that did not happen. Was told I would have call back by owner or [redacted] by end of day, that did not happen. Was told carpet was on truck but could not install for another five days. Than on Monday got a call at 10:45 am saying they could have carpet install that day. Was credited two dollars more than my deposit. The owner does not need the money or he would have gotten involved in transaction and should have made it right. He just lost my carpet sale, my 3500 quote for my kitchen floor and a referral for two rooms for my in laws. it disgusts me to read they have an A+ rating, something they do not deserve!!!
