Revdex.com:
I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and have determined that this proposed action would not resolve my complaint.  For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear.
The parts that Half baked powder coating ruined did not have any prior pitting , heavy scratches ,dents from being missed handled or material removed due to ever being sand blasted before. It is a known fact that you do not sand blast aluminum and especially before powder coating ! I have before and after pictures of all parts and many witnesses to the quality of the parts before and after going to half baked powder coating. The prior owner of the boat could also attest to the  prior condition of the parts in question. The fenders that had been powder coated were brand new and I do have the receipt of purchase. As for Hoffmann motorsports having anything to do with engine plate being milled down is absolutely false! The owner Chris Hoffman was notified when the parts were dropped off to his shop about the plate being milled in order to cover the damage . At that time Chris Hoffmann notified me of what had happened, and the next morning I had went to his shop and looked at the plate myself and then unwrapped the other parts that had been left with the plate , finding that all of the other parts had been severely damaged. At that time we called [redacted] owner of half baked powder coating and told him these parts were unacceptable. I gave  Mr [redacted] a second chance to fix all the problems with all said parts and when he returned the so called fixed parts nothing had been fixed at all and not all of the parts had been returned still to this date.  I am still missing a fuel vent bezel and 2 fuel cap flip plates. At no time did Mr [redacted] offer to replace any of the parts  until I mentioned I would have to take him to court.

Review: I sent multiple aluminum boat parts to be powder coated. Parts included transom mounted twin engine mounting brackets, mounting plates, swim platform, fuel caps, fuel vent bezels, trailer fenders and a few other small miscellaneous parts. When I sent the parts they where all in excellent condition or new. The only reason I was having them powder coated was to change the color. When I received the parts back the parts had been sand blasted and much of the aluminum had been damaged beyond repair, heavily pitted and powder coated right over the damage. The engine mounting plate had been so heavily damaged someone had actually milled the plate down without me knowing or my permission . This could have been a catastrophe ! The structural integrity has been compromised and had the plate actually been unnoticed it could have caused severe injury or death if it broke while the boat was in motion. This is a high speed boat with speeds capable of 120 mph. I have gave [redacted] the owner of half baked powder coating multiple chances to fix these problems and nothing has been resolved at this time .Desired Settlement: Pay for replacement parts.

Good morning

In this transaction of items I have no been directly dealing with this customer the items came from a local boat shop that has been working on this particular persons boat.>I received multiple boat parts from this customer at seperate times Starting on 3-25-14. The boat parts were not new nor in excellent condition. They were previously on a boat the customer purchased which is used and is 8+ years old. The old parts had 4 layers of powder coat on them originally and this is very uncommon. The only purpose to coat an item that many times is to disguise blemishes or defects. We stripped down the parts in house and we sent the parts out to a third party to sand blast. We have received parts on different dates from this customer and returned them with no complaints on the finished products. The third party company sand blasting the items did make a mistake and created an unusual marking on one item. We saw the marking on return of the item. I then let the owner at the boat shop the problem on hand and that the blasting company was willing to repair or replace the item they had damaged. The owner of the boat shop advised me they were very short on time and could not spare enough time to have a new plate made to go ahead and repair the one on hand. No local companies could machine a new plate . The original builder of the boat advised us to call a machine shop located in Florida to have a new plate built. They stated the lead time would be 2-3 weeks. The owner of the local boat shop said simply could not wait that long please repair the one at hand. We sent the item to a local machine shop and had the item repaired per the owner of the boat shop. (Hoffman motorsports) The plate was repaired and recoated . The plate and parts looked in great condition but the customer was still not satisfied. He then threatened to sue my company for the damages and wanted all parts replaced to new. I advised the customer that the price that was damaged by my third would have been replaced to new but the local boat store working on the boat had advised us to just repair the one on hand due to time delays. We would not replace or repair undamaged parts. The customer was not happy with the finish of 4 brackets he had brought either. Not because there was damage but simply did not think it was a quality finish , with no questions asked we declared the items at no cost. The customer then had to have 4 new brackets made at his expense due to the old peices would not fit on the boat after the boat shop had done some repair to the fiberglass . The customer brought these new items to my shop and we coated them at no charge along with 2 boat fenders at no charge to simply try and please the customer to understand we are trying to make a uncomfortable situation better. The owner of the local boat store has brought in many items and we have received no complaints. We are a new business . we have been in business almost 2 years and this is the first unsatisfied customer we have had. I did speak with the customer directly and told him we were willing to re coat any items he was not happy with. the sand blast company we use as a third party was willing to replace the item but you advised them to repair and they did so. Now the customer wants items replaced to new that are undamaged. I told the customer if he was not satisfied we would be willing to give him a full refund. If there are any questions please feel free to contact me at anytime . thank you
