Halliday Painting Roofing Waterproofing Reviews (2)

Review: When I was at work, this business came to the door unsolicited. My husband, who is quite ill and recently got out of the hospital, answered. They said they were here to clean the gutters. Husband said no, but they said they would check, and determined that there was roof work, too. Total charge $2250. for two hours of work. I came home from work to find out about this. I do not see any garbage bags of leaves cleaned, or evidence of roof work. They went in the attic and told my husband everything was soggy in one area. I went up to the attic, and found nothing. I cannot find the business, address or license #[redacted] when I search. I believe this is a scam on the elderly as my husband is quite frail. Please help.Desired Settlement: My husband tells me that this truck has been in the neighborhood for about a week.If they actually did work, I do not believe it was $2250. worth. I want my charge card credited. I also do not want this to happen to others.

Review: Today 10/**/13 a father and son showed up unsolicited at my elderly aunt's house on Staten Island and were knocking on both her front and back doors. She looked out and saw them and decided not to answer. My sister was with her and asked about them and my aunt told her the same men had knocked on her door (unsolicited) on 8/*/13, told her she needed work done to her roof and charged her $4200.00, which she gave them a check for. She said they left after 45 minutes of "work". When asked what she saw them do she said the father had a roll of stringy caulking material and he stuck it in the side of her roof while the son chatted with her. She said the father came down during this and had her sign an invoice which had written on it: "to seal and waterproof roof flashings and chimney with sealkreat waterproofing and clean gutters. All work and price agreed on before job start. job good for 7 years". The name of the business on the invoice and the business card was "Halliday Roofing, Painting and Waterproofing" and the address was [redacted] ph ###-###-####. The license # was [redacted] none of which I could verify anywhere on the internet, not even in the online yellow pages. Before they left on 8/*/13 she asked if he cleaned the gutters and he said, "No, they're good". So even though he had her sign an invoice noting that the gutters would be cleaned, he didn't do it. After pounding on her doors today she and my sister saw them go to her next door neighbor's house and when they later asked the neighbor what they said, the neighbor said they told her they have known my aunt for a year, gave the neighbor her full, name and just said they were just worried about her. I called the number an hour after they had been there and the answering service for "Halliday Roofing, Painting and Waterproofing" passed on my message " to never go back to that address again". A man called me back 5 minutes later and identified his company as Halliday Roofing, Painting and Waterproofing. I told them they were just there and they were not to go back etc. He claimed that he hadn't been out in 5 days, didn't know who my aunt was, never heard her name before, never been to her house, didn't know what I was talking about. When I referred to his vehicle as a "van" (just guessing because I had received what info I had from my sister on the phone) he said he didn't even have a van, he had a silver pickup truck. My sister and aunt later clarified to me it was a silver pickup truck out front. That call ended but I called the service again to pass on the message that if they did come back the police would be called and that I was filing a formal complaint, unless, he wanted to discuss a refund. The same man called me back, said he was [redacted] and that I had talked to his son earlier, not him. NOPE!! iIt sounded like the exact same person I spoke with earlier. He continued to deny being at my aunt's house earlier because they were at a doctor in S. Jersey so it was impossible. Also claimed he had a blue pickup, not silver.Since he kept denying it I asked him about 8/*/13 and how he is justifying $4200 for 45 minutes worth of work. He claimed he always uses seal-krete and it usually only takes 30 minutes, kept insisting he did a good job for my aunt, even tho he couldn't remember her at all. Said he was a licensed professional. When I asked him to consider a refund he was not responsive to that but that he would check the paperwork at this office to see what they did on 8/*. Things got loud but bottom line is this business needs to be investigated and my aunt deserves a full refund.Desired Settlement: For my aunt to be refunded her $ by mail. My aunt has expressed to me that she NEVER wants to see these men again. I would like the license # to be verified to determine whether it's legitimate and for this company to be formally investigated.
