Hammell Homes Reviews (%countItem)

Hammell Homes is exceptional. They renovated our house, which included a kitchen and three bathrooms. Their work was of the highest quality. They were extremely professional. *** Hammell, the owner, and his excellent staff and sub contractors, made our renovation run smoothly. Of course, there were unexpected issues that came up in this project, which made it so important for us to work with honest and reputable people. We would definitely use them again.

I used this business to rehabilitate my home. It was a very bad experience. Work was shotty. Had to continue stantly hire people to Re-do work. Brickwork was crooked. They patch some of the masonry with plastic bags. Plumbing’ was clogged up when we moved in. Had bathrooms remodel. Had no hot water in showers because they were installed incorrectly. Contractor cut hot water heater to rig it to past City inspection so that it appeared that we had hot water in showers. City inspectors told them to cut water temperature down, unaware that contractor did this on purpose. Hot water heater exploded from extreme heat. Hot water exploded all over the basement. The kitchen was also remodeled. Haven’t been in home for 2 months. Hinges are already coming off cabinets. The crown molding all through out home looks terrible. They left slice marks in the crown molding. The guest that come in my home notice it immediately. The black splash in the shower has a lot of cracks in it. The tile in shower has the manufactures writing on it. They didn’t bother to cut the tile before installing it. Contractor does not pay attention to details and does not use people that are skilled in the areas needed to do the job with excellence. The sliding door he placed over my drawers already broke. The steps I paid him to do look a mess. He painted over tattered wood, it looks very unprofessional.Keep in mind, it’s only been two months since we moved in. The upstairs closet s were installed incorrectly. After Contractor received his last payment, we no longer seen him. He did not complete job. We still have a hole in my basement ceiling with a pencil mark that stated, “patch”. Because he didn’t seal anything, I had to hire Tuckpointers immediately to seal the outside of the home. The paint is already going off the corners of the crown molding because he didn’t seal anything. We are still sealing and painting, we have pictures to substantiate everything said.

I used this business to rehabilitate my home. It was a very bad experience. Work was shotty. Had to continue stantly hire people to Re-do work. Brickwork was crooked. They patch some of the masonry with plastic bags.
According to our contract and scope of work there was no brick work for us to perform from the city or insurance company.
Plumbing’ was clogged up when we moved in.
As we stated to you before and agreed your plumbing was in bad shape and clogged . There's no way we could clog your drains from the work that we did because we have all new pipes. Your clog was a preexisting condition and you knew that.
Had bathrooms remodel. Had no hot water in showers because they were installed incorrectly. Contractor cut hot water heater to rig it to pass City inspection so that it appeared that we had hot water in showers.
It is impossible to rig a water heater to pass a city inspection. In other words your trying to say the city inspector is in cahoots with me to allow such a thing to happen. It was working correctly, inspected and passed at the time.
City inspectors told them to cut water temperature down, unaware that contractor did this on purpose.
In order to pass inspection the water temperature has to be set at a certain degree according to the anti scalding law. We never had anything to do with the temperature of the hot water in the first place because we didn't do anything to the hot water tank but the city made us adjust it to the code.
Hot water heater exploded from extreme heat. Hot water exploded all over the basement.
Once again the insurance company did not give you any money toward your water heater. Neither did I have this in my contract and you knew this. This was not my issue it was a preexisting condition. You only had a kitchen fire.
The kitchen was also remodeled. Haven’t been in home for 2 months. Hinges are already coming off cabinets.
We have done over 12 kitchens this year and no one has ever said their hinges are coming off the cabinets ever. And if so it would be a manufacture defect. Only thing we did was install them on the wall and if they are coming off the way it isn't because of our work. If the hinges came off it was due to abuse to the product.
The crown molding all throughout home looks terrible. They left slice marks in the crown molding. The guest that come in my home notice it immediately.
The insurance company did not cover the cost of the crown molding. They only wanted us to clean and paint the existing overly painted crown molding. I gave you a free upgrade and installed new crown moldings and those are seams that weren't there before and are now because of settlement which is very common.
The black splash in the shower has a lot of cracks in it. The tile in shower has the manufactures writing on it. They didn’t bother to cut the tile before installing it.
The cracks your referring to are the hairline cracks in the corner and are very common and impossible to install uncut tile in a place where it needs to be cut. It won't fit. The writing on the tile that your referring to is a bar code number on the edge of the tile from the manufacture.
Contractor does not pay attention to details and does not use people that are skilled in the areas needed to do the job with excellence.
Out of all the reviews I have over 100 5 star reviews and been in business for 30 years and everything has always passed from the inspection. They don't do that to unprofessional contractors. Remember, I came highly recommended from the city of Evanston.
The sliding door he placed over my drawers already broke.
The door was in a track sounds like abuse.
The steps I paid him to do look a mess. He painted over tattered wood, it looks very unprofessional.Keep in mind, it’s only been two months since we moved in.
Painting over existing risers speaks for itself. The new oak stairs you paid for was in excellent condition with pictures to prove it.
The upstairs closet s were installed incorrectly.
Once again the city inspected everything. I don't install closets incorrectly
After Contractor received his last payment, we no longer seen him. He did not complete job.
I shut off communications when you guys became unprofessional with me. I don't tolerate ridiculousness. which you guys started to perform. However I turned your job over to my foreman and he got the job done and on time.
We still have a hole in my basement ceiling with a pencil mark that stated, “patch”. Because he didn’t seal anything,
That hole came well after we were done and the city of Evanston required to move a box in the basement and needed to be patched. My foreman attempt many times to communicate with you guys to do a 5 minute patch.
I had to hire Tuckpointers immediately to seal the outside of the home.
No tuckpointing in my contract. Remember this was a kitchen fire claim.
The paint is already going off the corners of the crown molding because he didn’t seal anything. We are still sealing and painting, we have pictures to substantiate everything said.
Not clear what your talking about if your referring to the seams where the seams have expansion and contractions obviously that wasn't apparent before there must of been some type of settling applied. Very common.
In closing, this is an unfortunate character assassination claim where we have served this community for over 32 years with thousands of satisfied customers and award winning houses and keeping my A+ credit rating with the Revdex.com. However I know we can't satisfy everyone but this claim has no merit. This customer has a history of complaints about them online. Therefore I don't want this to effect my A+ rating that I have maintained with no complaints for the past 3 years.
