Review: I hired Hamptons Construction (run by Carlos A[redacted]) to do a full renovation of a home I purchased in 2014. The project involved installing a new flat rood, a full internal pain job, carpentry, finishing the basement, and a master bathroom remodeling.
I had never dealt with contractors before and was naive enough to pay Carlos 2/* of the agreed sum at the outset of the contract. He delivered the roof job on time and I assumed he is an honest and capable guy. But then the delays began and before I knew it, it was the middle of winter and Carlos never finished any of the other projects. Every weekend I would go to the house from city, I would find all the heating on which cost me thousands of dollars since it is a large house and it was a cold winter, and no workers.
Finally one of the workers told me that Carlos had run out of money for his other projects and that's why he wasn't finishing my project. I threatened to sue him which created some urgency and he finished the jobs over the next few months, but the quality was disastrous - I had a major bathroom leak because he installed cheap rubber in the shower, all AC wires in the basement were cut, which required complete rewiring which cost me a few thousand dollars, and only a year after the roof repair, I've had two leaks. A roofer who came to inspect the roof said that Carlos had not installed proper rubber connectors and that the roof was not correctly pitched and so water is gathering and leaking into the ceiling (it's a flat roof).
Altogether, this has been a disastrous experience for me and it has cost me over $150,000.
I am considering legal action against Carlos and think everything should be done to prevent this person from doing similar damage to others.Desired Settlement: I would like him to refund $55,000 he charged for the roof replacement which he guaranteed for 20 years. It's been one year and there are multiple leaks.
