Review: On June 4, 2014 I went to Ham's Restaurant in Danville, VA with my Mother, who is elderly. Time of day was approximately 11:30 am. To give a little background, the drinking water in Danville was contaminated earlier this year with coal ash, which means it had arson/poison in our drinking water. This is a well known fact if you need to google "Dan River". My Mom, who is elderly is afraid to drink any water that comes from the Dan River, which is where Danville residents and businesses get their water. So we always take bottled water to places. Nobody has ever had any isssues with us doing this. We drink bottled water out of fear of drinking the contaminated water in Danville. Ham's restaurant gets the water they serve to the customers directly from the sink faucet, which means it comes from the Dan River. When the waitress finally came to our table to take our drink order we told her we had brought our own water. She said "I don't blame you" and that it was fine. Then when she brought our food, the waitress stated that the manager said we couldn't do that the next time we came there, to which I responded that I understood and that I would gladly take our bottled water and put it in my vehicle. She said it was fine and just to remember the next time we couldn't do that. (Although there are no signs in the restaurant that states customer's cannot bring in bottled water) So we took one bite of our food and the manager came over and said if we didn't leave she would call the police on us for having bottled water. She was very rude. She also stated that we would have to pay for our lunch since we had already taken one bite out of our sandwich. She purposley waited until we took one bite of food. We were very upset thar we were being treated like this. My Mom has a heart condition and she became highly upset, and started having chest pains. We left but were followed in to the parkihng lot by the manager and was threatened with having the police called on us if we didn't pay. We didn't eat anything, unless you consider one bite of food eating. Seeing that my mother was very upset and not wanting to have to take a chance of being arrested, I went back in and paid for our food with a credit card. Alhtough I made it clear that I would dispute the charge. I didn't sign anything. I do believe that after we left the restaurant, the manager forged my signature to the credit receipt. I think something needs to be done about this. I have contacted Ham's home office on four different occasions and nobody has bothered to call me back. I hope that you can help me with this matter. This treatment of customers by this restaurant and the manger needs to stop. They need their business license revoked for good. Please respond to this. I need somebody to help me with this situation. Thank you very much for your time.Desired Settlement: Something needs to be done about the treatment of customers at Ham's in Danville

Response:

Hams is very aware of the water issue that happened in Eden North Carolina. There has not been any public safety threats issued by the city of Danville. It is Hams policy that we do not allow outside food or drinks in accordance with Virginia Health codes.Hams has been a staple in Danville Virginia for 18 years and strives very hard to make sure our guest are 100% satisfied.
