I am writing in response to Revdex.com complaint ID [redacted]. I have the following narrative of events from my facility manager, which is verified by other employees involved:
On September 19 2014 we did some work for [redacted]’s 1994 Mercury Tracer. We replaced valve seals, the valve cover...

gasket, and did an oil change. [redacted] came in approximately one week before this service stating his mechanic told him he needed valve seals replaced. We gave him an estimate and told him we would need to order parts. We did not see the car or diagnose the car before service, per Mr. [redacted]s request. When asked if he was sure about the valve seals, he insisted that his mechanic told him they need to be replaced.[redacted] called to schedule the appointment on the 16th of September and we ordered the parts. The vehicle did not run well and smoked quite a bit when we pulled it in. We replaced the valve seals as instructed and attempted to run the vehicle. The more the engine ran the worse it got. It was apparent that the seals were not the major problem with the car.[redacted] picked the car up on the 19th of September and returned later that day stating the car was leaking oil. We brought the car back in the shop and after performing a proper diagnostic found the majority of the oil was leaking from the air box/air filter area. The engine was pushing oil out of the breather in the valve cover and into the air box assembly. We performed additional basic testing and determined the car has a problem with the piston rings and compression was building up in the crank case which in turn was pushing oil through the breather into the air box.Mr. [redacted] is claiming that we were the ones who told him he needed valve seals and it would fix his car, which is untrue. Mr. [redacted] did not argue the bill that day and we did offer him a diagnostic before service. He also did not discuss drivability issues or oil leaks before service, just that his car needed valve seals.Thank you for your attention to this matter. At Hands-on Garage we strive to serve every customer with care and confidence. It is my opinion my staff attempted to help Mr. [redacted] properly assess and repair his vehicle and in the end performed the repairs Mr. [redacted] believed appropriate. It is unfortunate this did not solve the issue with the vehicle and I hope Mr. [redacted] is able to find a solution to his needs. We will be happy to work with him.Sincerely,
