ON April 22,2020 we entered into agreement of Mr B to replace our windows. I paid $1100 deposit in the form of check #*** cashed on April 23,2020. On April 29,2020 I paid $4446.04 directly to *** for the cost of my windows.

In questioning delivery of the windows we referred to receipts given when we paid for the windows. Upon review of these receipts we discovered there was other items we paid for that did not involve our windows. Upon questioning Mr. B, we were told it was his rewards from the store and he was not able to receive cash so he took merchandise in place. I found this statement to be questionable,we went directly into *** and asked them directly what was going on with my order. I was told rewards are of their own merit and are never crossed in a customers order, and that in fact, I paid for his merchandise he placed on my window order. Upon hearing this disturbing information, I immediately called Mr. B, he came directly to the store, where after confronted with the information we were given from the store, he finally told the truth. He submitted our window order to the bidding room on his contractor account and received a discount on our order, rather than extend that discount to us, he took the amount out in merchandise and charged us full price for the windows. On May 10, 2020 We advised him at that time we felt his actions were unethical and we no longer wanted to continue business with him. He requested a 2 week period to gather the funds to refund us $2000 verbally. We agreed. We have been in contact attempting to get our refund from him and still nothing but excuses. As of June 8, 2020 we still have not received any refund from him, despite my constant effort. As of yesterday I proposed a 3 week payment plan in which he was to pay $782.64 over the next 3 weeks, he agreed to but stated he could not start first payment until June 22. I told him that was unacceptable as I have been more than fair with being patient on my refund.

On April 22 2020 there was a agreement made between me and the client for window installation and the agreement stated that all material is to be purchased by the client I took the measurements to *** and the windows were ordered once the order was placed I then used my pro rewards and got a discount which was my option to give all or part to the client I opted to give some to the client which brought the price of the windows down about $450 and kept the remainder. The client went to pay for the windows herself if the client did not want to pay the discount price for all items purchased she could have just opted not to pay and the order would have went to the base price which was over $450 more than what she paid. Sense I did not give her the whole discount she then after going over the receipt she decided to cancel the whole order which the store charged her a restocking fee which she also wants me to pay back. The client even called the police and accused me of thief first I never took any money other than the deposit which was $1,100 which is owed to her I agree but then she wants back the restocking fee and the fee for the items purchased at the time that was left for me to pick up and 3.49% compound daily because I was unable to refund all the money she was requesting in return.

Regardless, of why we choose to terminate our agreement, he still owes us a refund in which he has FAILED to do. He agreed several times to refund us and has not. He is now requiring us to take legal action before he refunds us. What he did with our money is FRAUD in the eyes of the law. He went to HD got a quote, gave me that total. went back to HD placed the order. was issued a discount and bought additional merchandise to bring the total of our windows back to the quoted price. the merchandise in which he purchased was NOT for our job. according to his last statement I was to pay for JOB materials ONLY. Clearly there are items that do NOT belong! He knowingly choose to do this action. He took the Other merchandise I paid for. If I was to pay for materials then I should have ALL items in my possession. I do not and never have. He refuses to return the merchandise as he said its already been used. and he refuses to pay me back for it. He originally said he needed 2 weeks to return the refund. that date was May 24, 2020. To date I have not received once cent refund!

Handyman Van Response • Jul 24, 2020

there was a deposit of 1,100 paid to me which is warranted to be paid but as I stated in my last response that the quote was for 4,570 before taxes and she paid approximately 4,100 before taxes which gave her a discount fro the original quote as she stated regardless why she chose to cancel the contract the only money that is owed is the deposit at the time I have not been able to work due to covid 19 only part time 17 18 hours a week I am unable to refund at this time I tried to make an attempt to do so but money just has not come in a way for me to do so contrary to the statements she has made I did not steal from she as I also stated in my last response she chose to not wait for me when going to pay which she could have checked the list of things on the bill and chose not to pay for them.

He agreed to pay back my deposit, the merchandise he took that I UNKNOWINGLY paid for plus the restocking fee since he ordered the wrong windows and was no longer doing the job. I have several written conversations where he agrees to this. ALSO, I did not know I was buying merchandise other than my windows at the time of paying for them, I was not given receipts UNTIL AFTER the transactions were complete. I trusted he was a honest business man. HE ALSO gave me several dates in which he was going to pay me in FULL and he has NOT. I offered him a payment plan and he declined that as well. I have been more than fair with him, he is just a thief and living high on my money. I have filed a claim in court as well as this complaint. This man does NOT warrant a good standing with Revdex.com in any way, shape or form. BUYER BEWARE! He is a lying thief with an excuse for everything. I don't believe a word he says. He changes his story each time it is brought up.

Van was initially hired to repair drywall in our garage. We found another issue so we paid for him to fix that too. He never finished the garage.
In April 2019, I got a referral from Revdex.com for Handyman Van. We hired and paid him to do ONE job initially (drywall ceiling in garage). The estimate was $800, we paid a $400 deposit and $400 balance a week later because he said he was finished (we were out of town). This was a bad move on our part, but he had done several other odd jobs for us during the initial week (we paid him on the spot for these) and we "kind of trusted him." We returned in June 2019, to see the uncompleted work and he told us about another issue that needed to be repaired which would allow him to complete the garage drywall. We paid him for this work ($425), as well as paid him $200 for a few other jobs (security door lock installation, installed blinds, caulking work in bathroom areas, toilet flaps, countertop adjustment, etc.). We bartered and gave him furniture, stereo equipment, and other household goods. He has continued to PROMISE to finish the work he was paid for, but has not done so. Beginning in September 2019, Van was working with our Leasing Agent to complete the work, but has continuously gave him the runaround. Finally, we decided to "chalk this up as a loss," but we are seeing numerous complaints against "shady and fraudulent" contractors/handymen. As of today, we vowed to RIGHT this WRONG! Therefore, we are asking Van to return $650 of the money we paid him for the work he did NOT complete. This mainly applies to the incomplete drywall job in the garage. Hopefully, this will get his attention and the attention of those who are "thinking about hiring him. PLEASE NOTE: We were out of town from end of April - Mid-June (Van did NO
work); Van was ill from from Mid-June and stated he would complete the job by early July; then he continued with the promises...March 24, 2020 = STILL NOT DONE!

We have numerous documents, but it will only allow me to upload ONE. I uploaded the last email showing Van still has NOT completed the work. Please let me know how we can submit the rest of the evidence.

Desired Outcome

I would like Van to refund $650 of the money he was paid for work he did not complete.

Spoke to the client and we came up with a solution to resolve the complaint

I spoke with Van who assured me that he would come back to the house and complete ALL the unfinished work once our tenant moves out. We understand that he cannot do the work at this time due to the laws related to COVID-19. We are willing to give him another chance to RIGHT his WRONG, but if he fails again. We will be filing another complaint!

Mr. Van B was quick and efficient. He delivered as promised. Very accommodating with my schedule and finished the attic ladder installation and baseboard molding as we agreed upon. I would recommend him to my friends.

Hired January 2019 to install ceiling fans, lanai screen, air return fan, and shower head. April 2019, still didn't finish the job, refused to refund
Contracts signed 1/3/19 $1200 (Install Shower head $200; Install Lanai Screen $650; Install Ceiling Fans $350) and 1/18/19 $450 (install air return fan) Contracts state to pay 1/3 up front but he asked us to do him a favor to pay more up front so he could pay his guys. We are nice, so we trusted him and we did.
He asked us to pay him in multiple checks. This is what was paid. Check #280 - $200; Check #*** - $200; Check #*** - $200; Check #*** - $500; Check #*** - $250, total: $1350.
He only completed the ceiling fans. Everything else was incomplete. Shower was left without hot water and debris everywhere, Lanai was never screened, I have photos on my phone and text messages of the numerous times I've had to chase him down to ask why he has not showed up to complete the job. I had to eventually call a plumber for the shower and cleaned up the shower myself. And had someone patch and paint the ceiling from the hole he created. Today we still have not trusted anyone enough to hire again to install the lanai. Examples of his work ethics: he was to complete everything by 1/22/19 because I needed to be with my wife as we were expecting a child and wanted this done before she moved back into the home. This did not happen. He would not show up without a call or text. He would always wait until we'd ask where he was, and he'd reply that he will show up and many times wouldn't show at all. I took many days off work to meet him to discuss the project, or purchase parts and he would not show up.

Desired Outcome

I want a refund for all projects not completed shower head $200 Patio $650 return air $150

Handyman Van Response • Oct 04, 2019

I was hired to do the items in the complaint as for the shower their complaint was that the water doesn't get hot enough for them that is a hot water water issue not an installation which was completed.as for the return there was an issue placing it in the are where they wanted it ,it could not be do e and there was no money issued for it .as for the patio I was working on it then they decided that they had to leave town for a month and expected me to drop what I was doing to finish also she wanted something done that was possible to do. Please note that they have all the receipts for money paid if any thing there should be a refund for the uncompleted work which should not be a total refund because of the actions they took by leaving. Again they have receipts for everything and not one for the exhaust.

(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
The contract states that work would be completed by 1/22/19. This was a very important part of the agreement because we didn't just "decide to leave for a month", we had scheduled a birth of our child in California. This was stated PRIOR to signing the agreement and I have texts to prove it. We had a deadline and it was very important that it was completed by then. Again, I have two contracts, #1. shower head, ceiling fans, patio screen to be completed 1/22/19 - $1200 total Contract #2. return "exhaust" air - $450. Let me remind you that the shower had NO hot water, not that it didn't get hot enough, I had to hire a second plumber because Mr. B would state that he would come and not show up. He stated that he would be able to complete everything in a timely manner and that he was a professional, none of his actions proved this. So is he saying he NEVER knew we were leaving in the end of January to give birth? If so, I want him to put it in writing that he had no knowledge that we had to leave and that he had no clue of the time restraints, I want it in writing from him, so I can officially prove how deceitful this man is. Also, he stated he needed money to "pay my guys" so we actually gave him more money upfront because we felt bad for him and trusted him and this is how he repays us. Please see the receipt dates, you'll see we paid him WAY in advance. Here are some excuses to why he didn't show up for work - left my keys in the car (we offered to pick him up and help him) - It was raining today (majority of the work is indoors) - He was in the hospital (if this is true, we feel bad for him but he's made so many excuses it's hard to believe what's true and what wasn't) - My wife is in the hospital - I had to pick up my grandson - I was held up at another job - RAIN again - I'm on my way. These are ALL excuses he's made AFTER no show/no calls, we had to text and call consistently to get him to let us know what is going on. As a professional, if you couldn't make it, wouldn't you notify your client? My husband had to miss work/work related meetings waiting for him to show up on 10+ occasions. No exaggeration, I have proof of all the occasions and communications (I should say, lack thereof). This is a HUGE injustice to my family and I to have to deal with this stress, it's been more than HALF a year!

Van is steadily working on different projects in my home. He has extensive knowledge in his field of business. Van takes pride in his work and strives to always keep his customers happy. I will definitely recommend Van to my friends for future jobs.

Work needs to be completed.
Mr. Van B was supposed to remodel my home as requested starting Jan. 28, 2019 but as of today Feb. 26, 2019 has not completed the work.Communication with Mr. B is very bad, he'll show up one day unannounced or don't show up at all without a call or explaination. I'm unable to make any plans to go anywhere because I don't know when Mr. B will show up. I've tried to reach him by phone, but he doesn't answer my calls nor return my voice messages. Right now my house is in a mess because of the incompleted work.

Desired Outcome

Complete tiling the third bedroom floor and replacing closet doors. Complete putting in the toilet compression valve and putting up the plaster boards behind the toilet and finish tiling in the master bathroom and painting. Complete painting master bedroom door and touch up paint in master bedroom closet and replace closet door. Complete tiling bathtub walls in the guest bathroom. Replace closet doors in second bedroom Complete the french doors with weather stripping and painting. Finish painting the driveway, put up and secure two storm shutters, replace shingle tiles on roof.

Customer Response • Mar 20, 2019

All work has been completed, and company was paid the balance of the bill. I will not give them a good recommendation because of the situation where as I had to come to Revdex.com to get the ball rolling in order for them to complete the work.

Van has done everything from electrical to plumbing, drywall repair to sink and toilet installation, we have found him to be knowledgeable, honest, reasonable, and reliable? We have already recommended Van to friends and will use him in the future as jobs arise.

I have had Van do several projects at my residence to include patio ceiling replacement, internal plumbing and installation of a garbage disposal unit, interior painting of seven interior rooms and ceilings, breakdown of cabinet counter tops for replacement with quartz counter tops, drywall tear out and replacement in preparation for back splash installation. Van has also tore down and replaced a sixty foot section of my exterior fence, He has completed all of the above tasks with a high degree of professionalism. Van will be called upon to install back splash in my kitchen in the near future.
