We treat all customer feedback in a serious way and welcome all feedback We note here that this is the first complaint after a number of years as members of Revdex.com This customer used email as a primary communication tool with HandyPro and our craftsman John This helps us reconstruct what happenedThe customer requested that we recommend, supply and install French-style (multi-window) doors Contemporaneous notes by the craftsman show the customer’s highest priorities – in order of importance - were 1) soundproofing (to block her children’s noises coming from other areas of the house during work times), 2) quick delivery and installation, 3) locking via deadbolt and 4) and a visual barrier to prevent distraction The craftsman proposed stock inswing French exterior patio doors to deliver the desired sound blocking, quick installation, and lock security He told her where she could see the doors (the nearby home center) but she said if we could email a picture that would sufficeHe forwarded her via email the name of the nearby dealer, the model number of the doors, the dealer’s photo of the doors (which shows the customary threshold seen on all such exterior patio doors) and offered an installation slot mere days away if she approved the materials and the $ cost to installThe customer understood these were exterior doors, and even asked if we could supply them with blinds within the panes, as she had seen similar patio doors that had themWe cautioned that such a door would be special order and delay installationInstead, we suggested adding external blinds for less money than internal ones After receiving this email the customer approved the materials, costs and installation date The customer and her family members were home at the time of the installThey moved past the work area at regular intervals - spanning the time from routo final trim and finishing At the end of the work, the customer expressed concern with the *color [redacted] of the threshold The craftsman offered to return with trim wood stained to match, as close as possible, the adjacent floorThe trim would hide the metal surface of the wide threshold cavityHe measured precisely so he could later prepared the pieces He used a photo of the wood as a color reference, since dislodging other floor material for a matching sample was not practicalThis effort and commitment satisfied the customer She paid for the work and materials with a personal check In the days following that, the customer and craftsman exchanged emails to coordinate the trim piece installThere is lag time between the craftsman's questions and the customer's answersThe most recent email from the craftsman offering alternate dates was unanswered by the customer The craftsman received no communication during these emails about dissatisfaction with the threshold height or any aspect of the workmanship Three months after the work, the customer wrote to me saying she was dissatisfiedI offered to visit and inspect the workmanshipWhen I visited, I saw that the door had been installed with our customary workmanlike precision The threshold was the customary height for patio doors As is typical of doors of this type, the threshold allows a snug fit, blocks air flow and by extension, lets the door system block sound well I had the specially-prepared wood trim made to hide the metal threshold The customer said the color did not match I offered to photograph of the floor color (using the leading paint seller’s software), and have new trim pieces stained to a scientific matchThe customer demurred She said even a perfect color match would not satisfyShe admitted that after the install, her husband had objected to the threshold height and its metal material, characterizing the approval of such a door for interior use as foolish, no matter how well it may have been installed I asked her to tell me what would be a reasonable response from us that could satisfy all family membersShe said there was no satisfactory way to resolve it other than remove the doors and install alternate doors of unknown sound blocking ability but satisfactory threshold height I said that we had offered all reasonable responses in light of the highest priorities she had communicated before we ordered materials and commenced the work We conclude that we gave the customer precisely what she wanted and had authorize at the time of the installation The emails that followed, the three month lag between the work and the first complaint, and the customer’s statements to me about her husband’s dissatisfaction indicate that the customers changed their minds

HandyPro obtained necessary permit.  Before beginning any work, HandyPro met with the Lansdale [PA] Boro’s building inspector.  We showed drawings of the 2 areas affected by modifications – exterior entryway and bathroom – and drawings of the planned modifications. The boro then directed HandyPro to obtain a permit only for the exterior modification.  We obtained that permit. The inspector commented that there was no significant alterations in plumbing elevations / locations nor electric changes planned for the bathroom. We performed the work in the 2 areas according to the plans. The Boro inspector reviewed all the work. The exterior work satisfied the permit's requirements. Inside, the boro inspector suggested we strengthen new subfloor bracing put in place for the shower floor.  He described a suitable approach as regards to dimensional lumber and fasteners. We strengthened the bracing based on his suggestion. The boro communicated no other issues or suggestions for the project.
