Revdex.com:
I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and have determined that this proposed action would not resolve my complaint.  For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.
[redacted] was in our house for a maximum of 5 minutes.  He did take a picture and gave his opinion that the cover was old and brittle but he never touched it.  The piece of the cover we found on the floor, which [redacted] did not look at either, is quite flexible and bends in both directions.  Perhaps he is thinking of nylon which does grow brittle with age but this is a plastic piece and is neither brittle or fragile.  In any case it appears that he is not going to do the right thing and there is not much point in pursuing this further.  I will not, however, accept his response and say that the complaint is resolved.
Regards,
[redacted]

I am [redacted] the General Manager of The Happy Handyman LLC, the complaint is  inaccurate. We did do the work and yes the plastic cover for the light fixture is bro[redacted]. The issue isn't whether we broke it it is the age of the cover. The plastic cover was thin and brittle, it is a light...

cover that flexes to go on and off the florescent fixture. The cover due to age simply cracked, upon removal and reinstall, It wouldn't have mattered who went up to work on it, it would have bro[redacted]. I went out personally to look at it told the client at that time it was just old and would have broke on anyone  and took a picture trying to locate the cover for replacement at my time and  our expense with us only charging her the cost of the replacement lense. I searched online and thru multiple local sources and the light was to old. We then contacted her saying we could not get a replacement and that we could get a new light fixture charge her only the cost of the fixture and install it  at no charge she refused. It is unfortunate that people don't value service and honesty. I spent and our company spent a good deal of time and effort to correct an issue that just simply wasn't our fault. My offer still stands that we will do all the labor for free.[redacted]General Manager

I found this company on [redacted] and looked them up on [redacted] to check their rating. [redacted] came out and did an estimate the very next day; he is very professional and reasonable with pricing. We had a broken garbage disposal 3 new ceiling fans installed and a RO system installed. They came on time finished the work early and repaired our toilet that my husband has been trying to troubleshoot for a month now.

I'm very happy with their work and would recommend them in the future.

I contacted The Happy Handyman, LLC and several other companies for quotes and decided to go with The Happy Handyman because the response was quick and the quote was reasonable. Brian did a fantastic job installing duct and a vent to the side of my home for my kitchen hood fan. I would recommend The Happy Handyman to all of my friends and family.

Review: On 12/30/14 [redacted] from the Happy Handyman came to our house to do several repairs. One of them was to replace the flourescent bulbs in the ceiling fixture in the laundry room. Our house has 12 foot ceilings so a tall ladder was required and we had no desire to climb one and try to replace them ourselves. The repair along with the others was done, and about an hour later we found a piece of bro[redacted] plastic on the floor. We looked up and saw that [redacted] had bro[redacted] the cover on the light fixture. We immediately called the Happy Handyman and on January 5 they sent [redacted] back to look at the problem. [redacted] said that he did not break the cover, but we built this house and have lived here 10 years and in that time no one but him has ever touched it. I offered to show him the piece of the cover we found on the floor but he was not interested, instead stormed out the door while yelling a very bad word at the top of his lungs. He took measurements, said he would have to pay for it himself, the part would be ordered and they would call us when it came in. After more than a month of silence we called again and were told that [redacted] was no longer with the company. [redacted], the manager, would come out to look. He arrived on February 12, took a picture of the cover and said one would be ordered. After a few days we called since there had been no word. [redacted] left an answering message saying that he could not find a replacement cover and did we want him to order a new fixture. When we called back to say yes, he said we would have to purchase the light fixture ourselves and he would install it for free. This is not acceptable, it was their employee that broke it.Desired Settlement: We really have no need for a new light fixture, we just want the bro[redacted] cover replaced.

Regards,

I am in the process of selling my house. During the inspection process it was pointed out that a few electrical and plumbing issues were not up to code. The buyer asked for them to be fixed, and I called The Happy Handyman. I was excited about the idea that one person could come out and fix both the plumbing and electrical issues in one afternoon.

Brian, an employee of The Happy Handyman, came out a couple of days later and began work on my house. During the work, the power came on and off as he was working on all the electrical circuits in the house. As he was finishing up, I noticed that the microwave had not turned back on. Brian came back in to look at it, but could not get it working again. He left that afternoon convincing me that it was just a coincidence. Later in the afternoon, as I was trying to fix the microwave, my wife called letting me know that the garage door opener and our Keurig coffee maker were not working as well! We had family visiting from Washington, this was not the best time for all these appliances to go down!

This work was being done over New Year’s week. I tried to get Brian or the owner of The Happy Handyman to respond to my phone calls. It took 5 days to get in touch with Brad. Without coming out to my home, he tried to convince me that the problem was because of my aluminum wiring and I was responsible for the issue. He also advised me to get an impartial electrician to look at the situation to determine if I had some other electrical problem, or if the damage was done due to the work done on the house. I hired a licensed electrician. He came out and I described the work that had been done and that my appliances weren’t working. We looked at the appliances, the circuits, and the electrical breaker. Within two minutes of looking at the breaker and learning the work Brian had done, he knew what had happened. He was sure it was a small mistake on Brian’s part. He wrote up a report and I sent it to Brad. Brad called to discuss the idea with the electrician. In the end, he disagreed with the electrician that had actually come out to my home to assess the situation, and said that Brian had not done anything wrong. After hiring an electrician, like they asked, and paying $75, I was even deeper in the hole with the situation with no solution.

A couple of days later, as I was trying to solve these problems with the circuit breaker, I discovered that Brian hadn’t actually completed everything that was asked of The Happy Handyman. This infuriated me even further because I cut and pasted the issues with the photos from the inspectors report in order to make sure that they knew exactly what needed to be fixed!

Brad and The Happy Handyman have still done nothing to resolve the situation other than to not charge me for the work they had done. Because I am selling the house, I had to replace all three appliances myself. Not only was I left to fix the appliances myself, I lost over $250 in the deal.

As I did research on what kind of license The Happy Handyman had, I discovered that it was only a R-62 MINOR HOME IMPROVEMENTS, and not an electrical or plumbing license. Brad was not a licensed electrician or a licensed plumber! So my warning to anyone looking to hire The Happy Handyman for any technical service is that we all learn from my experience. This would have been helpful for me to know before hiring them. A small mistake by an unlicensed electrician cost me quite a bit!
