Hardenburgh Plumbing, Inc Reviews (1)

I contacted Hardenburgh plumbing on Monday December 1st around 9 am to resolve a faulty shower handle issue. He said he would come by at 4:30 that afternoon. I was not able to be there so I asked my father to wait for him at that time, [redacted] did not call nor did he show up at 4:30, instead he called at 6 stating that he was on the way and that he "ran over" on another job. Ultimately my Dad left, pretty upset that he waited around for nothing. He showed up around 6:20. At first he seemed nice, however he quickly started to ask me lots of personal questions that made me uncomfortable, about my job, life, family, he started looking at stuff in my garage and asking if it was for sale. He spent 15 minutes trying to buy my mower from me. I was trying to be polite so I "played nice" showed it to him but rejected his $75 offer on a $300 mower. I just needed him to fix my shower. [redacted] moved very slow. He eyeballed the handle, dismantled it in about 10 minutes, and said he needed to go buy some parts and would return tomorrow. He said he had to go to Miami the next day and would be back again at night during dinner time. He left round 7pm Monday night after working for 20 minutes and chatting the rest of the time. He showed up Tuesday night at 6 PM, I was not home yet so my wife greeted him. He chatted her up also asking more questions of my wife and really making her feel uncomfortable, as he is about 6'5", and she was alone with him at the time. I got home a few minutes later and noticing how slow he was moving offered to help anyway that I could to get the job completed. He worked for about an hour replacing the cartridge, as I fed my kids, did their homework and tried to get them ready for bed, not easy to do when you have a needy, chatty plumber in your house. By 7 pm the cartridge was replaced but there was very little pressure. [redacted] kept stating that he could not figure out why, there was no pressure and insisted that there must be a rock in the supply line. He stated that he had never seen this before in his 40 years of plumbing and would have to come back again to open the supply lines and flush out the alleged rock. He said he needed to cut a hole in my wall to get to the lines. We agreed that this was a job for another day. I asked him to come first thing in the morning as to not ruin my evening with my family for a third day. He agreed he would be there by 9 am. Wednesday morning at 10 am I received a call from [redacted] stating that he lost his phone, he asked me if I had seen it and then insinuated that it might have gotten stolen out of his work van in our gated neighborhood. He then went into a long winded story about an error at his bank, that he needed to resolve and disconnecting his phone so that his personal information would not get taken, and that he needed to resolve all of this before coming to my house to work. I asked him how long that would be and he said he would be there by noon forcing me to reschedule meetings that I had that day. Noon rolled around and I got another call from [redacted], again complaining about his bank and his phone and promising me he would be there as soon as he could, I explained that I needed to leave at 2:30 and that he needed to finish before then, knowing that he could not get that done, he asked me again if he could come by at 6 PM, not what I wanted to hear. I asked my wife to try to get home early, as I would be out, and she said she would do her best. She got home at 6:10, [redacted] was here, he walked into the house, looked at the shower handle through the hole that I had already cut for him in my wall, then said, ooh, looks like you have a small leak, I need to go get another part, and will be back. By the time I arrived at 6:40, [redacted] was not here yet, and no work had been done. At this point I was finished with his inconveniences. Not having any idea of how much he charges, nor ever receiving an estimate for the work, I wrote a check out for $50, left it at the guard gate, and asked him to deny [redacted]'s entrance. [redacted] came back from the home depot by 7pm, less than 1/2 a mile away, he immediately called me telling me that I had ripped him off and yelling at me through the phone. I explained that, I had no contract, or estimate with him and had no idea what he was due, if anything, at that point. He then claimed that he had been here for 3 hours at $75 per hour and that the part was 80 dollars and I owed him for all of that even though, I still had a hole in my wall and a non working shower. I offered him 1.5 hours labor, which is what he actually worked, and the cost of the part. He refused that amount threatening me if I did not pay. I have sent [redacted] payment for 1.5 hours plus the cost of the part, and will need to hire someone else to finish the job in a timely fashion. Not a good experience from this company.
