On November 5th, 2019 I contacted the Water District #2 and advised them of a house fire in the rental home on ***. Elizabethtown, Ky. I let them know that the residence was no longer habitable and that I needed the service cancelled. I did not have a way to get to the location as I was instantly homeless with 2 children and between cleaning up and trying to locate temporary housing. The fire dept sent in a notice of the fire as well due to the fire hydrant. The land owner called in on the 5th as well advising of this event. I was expecting the final bill of $29.16 to be deducted from my deposit and the remainder sent to me to the updated *** I had given day of call.
While cleaning and attempting to salvage some items at the property a worker came who is employed by the Water District #2 and advised he was shutting off for non payment. I pointed at the home and asked if he knew why it had not been previously shut off. I called the company and was told that not only was the service not disconnected, but I am being charged a 50$ fee for disconnecting of non payment although there is record of my call because I was unable to come into the store. I asked to speak to a supervisor after the lady asked me "If I understood" the policy. The supervisor advised me she would wave half the $25. fee but it is her call and she is not going to remove the $19.06 monthly charge or the whole disconnect fee.
I feel not only disrespected but taken advantage of at one of the lowest times in my life. I had requested this service to be disconnected due to fire and I cannot believe that a company knowing of this event would charge someone who has already lost EVERYTHING. I was advised by the supervisor that it was not her policy to waive any more fees but she would be happy to set me up on payments so the remainder bill did not go to collections. To them $70 is a laugh or a joke. To me it is not a joke This is unacceptable business and terrible customer service
I fell behind on the water bill and I always pay on the first of the month, but I forgot and went to pay on the 5th, and my water bill is never over $30 dollars. I went to pay and it was over $100, I called and the company told me that my service was disconnected and that I had to pay that in over to turn my services back on. I am on disability and I have diabetes, I need water. Water is a life and death situation for me. I asked them to wait I could pay it all on the following 1st. They said no, I had till the next day till 8 am or they were going to turn off my water. I am diabetic and I can not live without water, so I made a payment not knowing that I didn't have it in the bank to cover it. So the payment was returned, I thought I had it in the bank to cover it but I didn't and the payment was returned. I didn't get notice either times my services were disconnected, they just turned off service, and wanted payment to turn it back on. A bill that was $60, turned into $226. I went to helping hand, and they could not help me. They told me to pay the bill and that they would help me with my rent in February. I asked the water company for help many times, to give me a statement that I was over 30 days late so I could get help in paying the bill, and they never did till 12/28/2017 when the bill was so high, I could never afford it. My bill has never been over $30 dollars, it should have inflated to the account that they were demanding when they didn't give me the statement that I needed when Jackie Walls sent me an email on 12/11/2017. I asked them to work with me and didn't assist at all. Now I am in danger of getting kicked out of my apartment because of this bill. The amount I should have had to pay was $98.
