Complaint: [redacted]
I am rejecting this response because [redacted] is not being truthful. I have had a professional construction site manager evaluate the work done and not only did he notice all the problems we had noticed, he also noticed additional issues with the uneven sanding and the grit and debris that were finished into the floor. The issues on the list of repairs that we requested to be fixed were not fixed. The issues with the stain application do not have to do with heat, you can visually see where the stain was poorly applied with some type of applicator and haphazardly applied. He left the broken board in place it is not a KNOT,  a photo is in the document attached. As I mention before, [redacted] only "fixed" many of the issues with poorly applied wood filler and caulking which made it look even worse. They were very careless with the entire job and didn't fix the issues they said they would. I would be more than happy to get 2 or 3 reputable companies to give me estimates on how much it will cost to fix all of the remaining issues and go with a refund of that amount from Harper Hardwood. I'd be more than willing to use companies the Revdex.com recommends to get these estimates.
Sincerely,
Tammy Piccone

We are responding to the complaint submitted by [redacted].  Some of her allegations do not have merit, since some of the things are general practice in hardwood flooring.  Mixed stain is a standard practice done by any floor installer/sander.  We used a high quality Bona stain, half...

Golden Oak/half provincial. She requested that stain color from the stain samples on her floor.   We also stained her baseboards, at no charge.  It wasn't done carelessly.  They initially said they were replacing all the baseboards.  [redacted] suggested to save them money that he could restain the baseboards to give them an alternative to replacing them.  After staining, [redacted] said they still wanted to replace them, so nothing else was done to them.  The color 'variations' are because each piece of wood takes stain differently. It is the nature of the raw material and it mostly understood that wood will have grains and 'imperfections',  The nail holes were filled with the same stain color and the floor.  Because of the 'variations' of color, it would be impossible to stain each hole with the different colors of the stain.  If the stairs are not code now, they were not code when we started.  We remove the existing tread and install with the same height, width or depth size tread. We do not make any sort of structural modifications. The stairs may squeak because they are built on a 'suspension' without much support below them.  They may have squeaked before, but with carpet, it can muffle the sounds. It is standard to use 2" nails and glue to install the treads. The 'broken' board [redacted] is referring to was not infact broken, but rather a knot that was in the board.  [redacted] tried fixing it before replacing it because it was in a corner and she said it looked fine when he was done.  Our equipment did break while on her job.  (I have the receipt to show the repair). It is a very expensive piece of equipment and had to have the motors replaced.  It's unfortunate that it happened on her job although it could have happened on any job.  We apologized for this and took a Swiffer duster and dusted the entire house.   There was a small puddle and two pieces of debris on the floor.  We did repair them and was told it was good at the time.  We had no indication that there were any other problems regarding this issue. The main problem we had with this job is because the finish 'flashed', which is caused by the floor drying to quickly.  They were out of town during most of the process and turned their air conditioning off during one of the hottest weeks of the year.  The heat caused the floor to dry unnaturally and flashed.  It was also extreme conditions that they had to work under.  The loft was resanded and restained at her request (at no charge) because of the flashing.  She brought her brother who is a contractor and he walked the job with her and [redacted].  After the meeting with them, she said she was ok with fixing the problem.  We did extra work for her at no charge. We removed the spindles and handrails at no charge since they were getting new ones.  The high school kids that she hired to move her furniture back scratched the floor and he came back and repaired those as well.  We came back and repaired each thing she asked for.  To find issues, she carried around a light inches from the floor.  We did everything she had asked for and at the end of the project, she ok'd the job. We had no indication of any issues since we left the job the last time.
