Review: Merchandise was advertised as 14 carat gold jewelry, the pieces are "Medals of Honor" pendant and earrings for Mother, and a coin of honor for Father. The necklace is advertised as 14 carat gold and white gold, with a diamond in center, that is "genuine" but not graded, "to keep the cost down". Necklace price was $599, plus interest.

Earrings were advertised to be a weight of .17 carat each, to a total weight of .33 carat...with 14 carat gold posts, sales price is $1000. Father's coin is said to be sterling silver and 14 carat yellow gold, with one diamond on back and a sapphire on front, Harris Jewelers will not say of what weight they are supposed to be.

Total cost, $2200 plus interest.

Harris Jeweler's advertises that they are "serving those who serve us" . A more accurate slogan would be "Stealing from those who honorably, nobly, sacrifice their lives to serve us" (My mother's words, not mine)

They offer "reasonable monthly payments" and work only with a soldier's SSN for accounting.

1) My mother found that she could not wear these "carat gold" earrings for even four hours without sores and itching developing in her ears. This prompted her to look into the said quality of the jewelry, first, to consult with Harris Jewelry, and request written information as to the quality of the said merchandise. They promised to send it in the next morning's mail...it does not take more than two weeks to receive posts from NYC to her area. They are not far apart. She called again, and still waits for the written information. In the meantime, she has talked with them over the phone three times and two locations about the merchandise, (thus quotations are direct from employees of Harris Jewelry). She has also taken all three pieces to a well-known, reputable jeweler in her area of residence for two reasons: one to check quality of carat gold, as she only reacts to jewelry that is not carat gold, and 2) if these pieces are of the value claimed by Harris, then it needs to be stated in household inventory for homeowner's insurance.

This jeweler charges $65 per piece to appraise items. Upon looking at these pieces, under magnifying lenses and lights, he could not, in proper conscience charge this fee for any of the pieces. They are not worth the price even to appraise. He stated, that he would not pay more than $50 for the pair of earrings alone and that this was an incredible scam. For starters, the white gold of necklace is not white gold, it is sterling silver. This is not how it was advertised, and as already noted, the earrings are not carat gold at all. For my mother's skin to react as it did, they are cheap metal, at least in the posts. Harris Jeweler's does claim over the phone as well as in the store, though, that the posts are 14 carat gold.Desired Settlement: We would like to see one of two ways to resolve this:

Harris Jewelers to accept a return and full refund, even though it is past their 30 day from purchase return policy. (It should be noted that the items were received in mid-December and already past the 30 day from purchase policy)

or 2) Harris Jewelers to retract their original grossly over-inflated price to a price more in line with the actual quality of the said merchandise. That they accept the payments already made to purchased items and call them paid for with a good, reputable credit rating. The money that Harris jeweler's has so far received in payments have already exceeded the actual values of all three pieces combined. We would very much appreciate your help with this matter. Thank you very much for your help and service.

Review: I purchased a ring at Harris Jewelry in Nov of 2014. At the Time of purchase we were told the ring was 1.2 ct. After a week of having the ring a diamond had fallin out and we had to return to the store. The ladies there exchanged the ring and also informed us that they would take $400.00 off of our purchase due to having to bring it back. In Jan. 2015 I called to get the balance of the ring and to confirm the $400 was takin off and it turned out that it wasn't. From then on we had to speak to the manager who was rude and hung up in our face and ingonored half of the things I was telling him about. After a hour of being on the phone he took the money off of our purchase. 3 months later my account was drafted without consent to do so. In Sept 2015 I made two payments of $150.16 the one payment for Aug and the one for Sept.On Sept ** I spoke to a customer service rep to make the second payment of $150.16 and he asked would I like to be set up with the auto draft and I told him no we do fine calling it in. On Oct. * $150.16 was drafted out of our account yet again without consent. We spoke to Phil the manager He did not like what we had to say called me a lyer and hung on me saying my money will be put back into my account. I called back later that day to talk to a customer service rep to get more information about my ring on the price and ct's. He proceeded to tell me he'll email it to me in the morning. At 4:00 pm Oct. * I took the ring to two different Jewerly stores to get the ring appraised. One store I paid $100.00 for them to take a look at it. They told me my ring was only 0.75 ct and it was worth $1,000.00. I left and went to another store which they told me same thing.Soon after that I went back to Harris Jewerly store to get them to tell me how many carots my ring was and he refused. I paid a total of $2,678.00 for a ring that the diamonds are not clear, they are completely foggy and it is only worth $700 to $1,000.00!Nobody at this company cares what they are doing to military people.Desired Settlement: I would like for the contract to be terminated along with the $706.56 dollars that was the amount left to be paid. Along with no futher contact from this company.

Review: My husband over Christmas purchased a ring from Harris Jewelers. They had a buy one get one free deal going on. Turns out I didn't get anything free. The man in there said he takes care of soldiers. This is certainly untrue. They made a claim that they have a high quality stone for their jewelry when I saw the same ring at another jewelry store for the fraction of the cost. I looked at the ring quality I had found out it was almost the lowest it gets. And I3!!!! I looked myself! When I saw carbon in there and asked why there were black spots (less than thirty days after receiving the ring) they told me that it was dirt. This was before confirming that the ring was of low quality diamonds.Desired Settlement: I want them to take their product back and give me back all my money.I don't even want this ring! We were robbed. If nothing is done about this, me and my husband are going to take further action.

Response:

This is in response of the complaint made by [redacted] concerning the purchase made by her husband [redacted] at our store in [redacted] on December **, 2013. We are surprised that the purchase was made in December 2013 and this is the first time we are hearing of any issues with the merchandise and that she opted to go to the Revdex.com without contacting us first to resolve the matter for her.

We are a bit confused to her statement about the free merchandise. At the time of purchase [redacted] was given a 10K white gold and diamond bracelet which retails for $1,999.00, at no charge. Is [redacted] claiming this item was not received?

We wish to assure you that we are a very reputable company, serving military customers for almost 60 years and take offense to her comments. However, although we do not agree with her comments and it is long past our 30 day return policy, in an effort to insure customer satisfaction, we will accept the return of all merchandise for full credit. Any payments received on the account will be refunded, upon receipt of the merchandise.

If this is the solution desired, the ring and bracelet need to be returned to our corporate office at: Harris Originals, [redacted]. The merchandise needs to be sent back via insured mail for the full value to our NY office.

Should [redacted] or [redacted] have any additional questions or concerns, please have them contact us directly at: ###-###-####.

Sincerely,

Harris is awesome! I recently purchased a ring for my wife from there and it is beautiful! It was only 2,999 and they sized it for free and it came with the best warranty I have ever heard of! I would definitely recommend this place to any of my fellow marines that were looking to get a gift for a loved one. They also said they were going to build my credit so that I can get a car at a better price. I am so glad I went here versus anywhere else.

Review: In December 2011 before my husband deployed we decided to upgrade my wedding ring to a different ring because we noticed the diamond had a cracked. So the Harris store explained to use that since we purchased some lifetime warranty on the diamond we could exchange the ring and pay the cost difference. I found a ring and which was valued for more than $1,000. So we were told the ring would be resized and ready to be picked up in a few days. I got the ring and was very happy with the size and did not think any thing of it. Husband deployed and now that we have recently moved I decided to get my ring appraised for insurance purposes. During the appraisal I was told that there was a crack in my diamond. I though how could that be this ring is only a year and a half old and I certainly do not have a rough job. I take care of this ring how is it possible. When I was showed the crack I was shocked! It was the EXACT SAME CRACK that my former ring had. Clearly the same diamond from my previous ring was taken off my only ring and placed on my new ring. This whole time I thought I was getting a high quality diamond ring but I was given a recycled diamond and paid full price for a ring with a used diamond. As I explained to customer service that I am not a diamond expert and as a consumer I relied on the diamond experts that work in the store. I and many other military dependents are loyal Harris consumers but now its hard to trust a company such as this one. It like they took advantage of military consumers because we travel and move across this country. We rely on their expertise while our husband and wives are out there protecting our freedom. Why did it take me almost 2 years to bring this to the attention of Harris? We travel, we move, and I had no reason to question the quality of the jewelry until I had gotten it appraised.Desired Settlement: I want the money we invested into this ring back. This ring was suppose to symbolize the unity of marriage and all I can think of this is ugly crack that quickly devalued the ring to pennies. I cannot wear this ring.

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID# [redacted], and have determined that my complaint has NOT been resolved because:

I work from home and I am home every day. There has not been one sticker/door tag on my door indicating that they have come by. I have contacted UPS and they say they will send somebody out. Nobody has come. I am frustrated.

In order for the Revdex.com to appropriately process your response, you MUST answer the question above.

Response:

In order for us to find a solution to [redacted]' issue, we must have the merchandise back at our [redacted] office. We tried to have the merchandise picked-up from [redacted] by UPS with a call tag so there would be no expense to [redacted]. The tracking number with UPS for this pick-up is [redacted]. We have contacted UPS to find out the status and have been advised by UPS that they made 3 attempts to retrieve the package but no one was available for pick-up. They are claiming the attempts were made on 11/**/13, 11/**/13 and 12/*/13. After [redacted]' advised no one ever came, we contacted UPS again and they are doing an investigation and should get back to me by 1/*/14. As soon as we receive this information we will contact you again.

I can understand [redacted]' frustration, we did offer to reimburse her for the shipping cost if she wanted to return the merchandise herself to us, will this option work? Or does [redacted] have a solution on how we receive the merchandise for inspection.

I await your reply.

thank you,

Review: Purchased a bridal wedding set for 2200.00 and found out it was valued at only roughly 450. Significantly overpriced. My husband feels completely ripped off. I called once to talk about them buying it back or exchanging it if anything and was told that a [redacted] would call me back to discuss options. They asked for my name and number and assured that a [redacted] would call me back before the end of the next business day. Never received a call.Desired Settlement: I would like them to buy back the rings that they sold us and ripped us off with.

Business

Response:

The ring was purchased in September 2012. In August 2013 [redacted] contacted our office asking if we bought back merchandise, she was advised that we did not buy back merchandise but if she was unhappy with her ring we would be able to exchange it for her. We asked the reason for her question and she stated that she felt her husband spent too much for the ring since her girl friend got a similar ring for much less money. We did not hear back from her and now received the complaint from the

Revdex.com in 2014

She is stating in the complaint that the ring is valued at $450, we do not agree with this statement. She also does not say how she came to this figure. We are a very reputable company, have been in business for over 55 years and stand fully behind all our merchandise.

Although we do not buy back merchandise, and it is long past our 30 day return policy, in an effort to ensure customer satisfaction, we are willing to accept the return of the merchandise and issue a refund of the money paid.

Please let us know if this is an acceptable solution to [redacted]’s issues.

Sincerely,

Consumer

Review: Harris Jewelry provided merchandise that was not as valuable as the money that was charged for the product. Harris Jewelry used an attractive female to push an immature soldier into signing a contract that provided a teddy bear, necklace, earrings, and a challenge coin worth $250 and charged the soldier $2,500. The company representative states that they use this as an "opportunity for the soldier to build credit". Harris jewelry took advantage of a US Army Soldier just stationed in Ft. Hood, Texas, by telling him this would be a great way to show his parents how much he appreciated them and then charged him $2,500 for products that are not worth $250 in an attempt to also "build" his credit.Desired Settlement: All items purchased are returned to the company and Harris Jewelry releases this soldier from this debt.

Review: I recently exchanged my ex-wife's wedding set for two solitaire rings since Harris Jewelers does not offer refunds but you can exchange for items of equal or greater value. They talked me into spending more money to upgrade to 2 solitaires as they would have a higher resale value down the road. I was on my way back to where I am stationed after visiting my family in ** and stopped in to do the exchange as I live a couple hours away from [redacted]. At the time, their computers were down and I did not have time to wait as I needed to get back home to report for duty and was already 3 hours behind due to my car breaking down on the way. I was told one of the diamonds I was getting was .5 cw and the other was almost .5 cw, but they did not specify what "almost" was and told me the documentation would be emailed to me. I never received ANY documentation. My parents came to visit and I asked my mom to take the rings home with her for safekeeping as I will be deploying soon. She requested the documentation from Harris and they sent her the receipt along with a Declaration of Value on each ring. The DOV documents did not state any specifics about the rings other than how many karats of white gold they were, along with the prices. The ring that was "almost" .5 cw turned out to be only .37 cw. That one was $1499 and the other was $1699, however the DOV for the $1699 ring incorrectly stated a price of $1499. My mom emailed Harris about this and they sent a corrected DOV. They told her however that they do not have specifics on the diamonds. She then took them to one of the most reputable jewelers in [redacted] to try and find out more and was told the diamonds were no more than an I-1 and I-2 in quality and that their price would not have been any more than half of what Harris charged me and basically that I got ripped off. Specifically, the bigger diamond has 2 large yellow spots in it and a good-sized inclusion that I was not made aware of at the time of purchase. The inclusion is so bad that they were afraid to put it in their cleaner for fear that it would make the inclusion worse. To have an official DOV done by this jeweler would cost me $100, and that was a discounted price because they felt bad that I was overcharged and misled so badly, especially being military. Harris supposedly caters to the military and the only thing that I can figure out how so is that they refund your interest once your lien is paid in full. But they are making up for that by ripping people off on the cost of their jewelry. I am only 23 years old and am not educated about diamonds so I feel I was severely taken advantage of. My mom emailed them again insisting on information on the diamonds but they have not responded and it has been almost a week now. I do not understand how a national jewelry chain can sell $3200 in diamond rings and not be able to provide the purchaser with information on the quality of the diamonds.Desired Settlement: I would like a full refund on the rings, 7 year warranty I purchased, overpriced cleaning supplies I purchased, and the interest I was charged. The original set I purchased was paid off and the upgrade cost was financed but is not paid in full yet so I would like all future payments ceased (they are being auto-drafted from my paychecks) and all money I have paid at that point refunded. I would also like to see Harris review their pricing and refund policies so that no one else gets taken advantage of like I did. I would also like reimbursement of my shipping charges to send the rings back. Please email and communicate regarding this matter with my mother [redacted] at [redacted] as I will be deploying soon and will not be accessing my email much if at all. She has power of attorney to handle any financial and legal matters for me. Thank you.
