Harris Plumbing & Drain Care Reviews (%countItem)

On 1/22/20, I submitted a claim with Choice Home Warranty due to a tub&shower leak in the master bathroom that was coming through the walls falling onto a lower level ceiling. They sent Harris Plumbing & Drain Care LLC on 1/24 to repair it.Eric *** indicated the problem was with the shower valve but was unable to locate the part he needed after searching for it at the local Home Depot. He explained that he would have to ride out to a parts house in Marietta to get it but agreed to return on 1/27. Once he returned with the shower valves & installed them, the problem persisted with the leak.He looked further & noted the water was also getting behind the tub spout. He removed my tub spout & took it with him to Home Depot looking for a replacement which they did not have.Eric returned with what he termed a "nipple" from HD & was able to fit a spout he already had on his truck. The water stopped leaking and I paid him $250. He stood in my foyer stating he guaranteed his work for 1 year with the exception of normal wear & tear.I did not notice until after he left that the tub spout was not flush with the wall. There is a 1/2 inch gap which allows water from the shower wall to drain behind the tub spout. That gap is too wide to caulk.Eric also did not silicone around the area of the stem which I can now see projecting from the wall. After using the shower, I noticed both the hot&cold water handles are loose & I have to turn them a 2nd time to keep a steady water stream. I called on 1/24, 1/27, 1/29,2/6, 2/12, 2/13, 2/14, 2/15, 2/17, 2/18 & sent him a video on 2/21. I phoned Choice Home Warranty on 1/30 who called on my behalf. Eric *** asked me thru them to give him a few days because he was booked but that he would follow up.Times have been set up since then to repair and complete the job but they failed to show up and to call. I've always had to be the one to initiate the follow up.

Desired Outcome

Refund I need the return of my tub spout that was taken so that I can find another plumber to get the correct part from the parts house which was something *** Plumbing did not do. They tried to retro fit a part they had on their truck. Eric *** indicated he located a plate to fit behind that spout but has yet to install it.I also would like a partial refund of my money in the amount of $100 so that I can use that to pay another plumber to finish his work, get the right part, & seal it properly.

Harris Plumbing & Drain Care Response • Mar 02, 2020

I replace tub and shower valve stems I return to the customer home and replace tub spout ant no charge because of the piping use to install the tub spout I inform the customer we would have to open the wall and replace the galvanized pipe with copper piping to make the tub spout fit flush with the tub wall I also purchase a tub spacer to go between the tub spout and the shower wall the customer have not made herself available to install the spacer she cancel a appointment we had do to jury duty I have not heard from the customer to make anther appointment the price the customer paid was for the stems replacment only

Customer Response • Mar 02, 2020

(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
The response is not accurate and does not reflect the facts. It's intentionally misleading. The plumbing continued to leak after he replaced just the shower valve stems. He called me upstairs to show me that everything was working fine only for me to bring to his attention that water was still leaking through the ceiling downstairs near where I was taking incoming calls for work. Replacing the shower valves only did not correct the water leak problem behind the walls. He walked back downstairs and could see that for himself. The problem clearly was not fixed at that point. In short order he figured out that the problem was also with the tub valve. He had a tub spout on his truck that did not fit. Mr *** then left the house to go to Home Depot to find a part that would. When he returned that same day about 45 minutes later on 1/27, he told me that Home Depot did not have the part needed but he purchased a nipple to fit it. So he was not returning to my house at no charge because he had not yet been paid and the job ticket was still open. Further he told me out of his own mouth that the water leak problem was "the combination of both the tub valve and the shower valves". Once he put the part on for the tub, the leak stopped. I paid him what he asked and it was $250 for everything. The description on his invoice dated 1/27/20 includes parts for the tub and shower. There was nothing done here free of charge. I contacted him on that same day regarding his tub spout not sitting flush with the wall and together we later discussed a tub spout spacer or plate that could be installed to eliminate that gap and prevent water getting behind the wall. A logical solution. It would not be necessary for *** Plumbing to go back behind any walls in that bathroom if there is no longer a leak. Secondly, I work full time from home 5 days a week and explained to him and Choice Home Warranty that I have a very flexible schedule. So it is not true that I've not made myself available. He was in Lowe's picking up that tub plate while on the phone with me and agreed to install it which has yet to be done. The last appointment I made with him to install that part was on Saturday 2/15 around 2:00 pm in the afternoon. Mr *** explained that he had two other jobs that Saturday ahead of me but assured me he would come. As has been the case so many times before, he did not show nor did he call. I called him that Saturday around 4:00 pm and text him to get an ETA and he never responded back. Wasted my entire Saturday afternoon. That following Monday on 2/17 I was scheduled to report for jury duty that week for Clayton County and have the paperwork to show for it. Had he returned my call on Saturday out of courtesy and to apologize for not showing, I could have told him that. Instead he calls and text me out of the blue on Monday 2/17 at exactly 1:24 pm to say he is 5 miles away from my house requesting my address. He was in the Riverdale area working another job and wanted to "swing by". No one was home. That's not an appointment. His response failed to include or even acknowledge that he missed several appointments. No show and no calls. I spoke to him from the courthouse and explained how needlessly frustrating this is becoming. He has not kept any appointments made since 1/27 and we are up to 20 days now trying to close this issue out. I had no idea how long they would keep us for jury duty and explained that to him over the phone. There was no appointment ever cancelled due to jury duty because there was no appointment made with him while I was on jury duty. He knows that. I followed up with him on 2/18 to let him know I was still on jury duty and again on 2/21 to let him know I was finally released. I called him on 2/21 at 12:44 pm and never heard back from him since. We are now in the month of March. At this point, I question the integrity of this contractor used by Choice Home Warranty. There should be no misleading statements or worse yet false statements about the matter. If anything, omission of minor details at most but nothing more. Customers need to know they can trust a service professional in their homes but not if there is a need to distort the truth entirely. Name and company reputation are on the line. Including that of Choice Home Warranty who sent *** Plumbing to my house to start with.
