Harris Plumbing & Heating Reviews (1)

Review: To Whom It May Concern:

I am writing this letter to lodge a formal complaint against Harris Plumbing for the poor repair work done under our third floor bathroom in January, 2014 and their unsatisfactory response when we called for service October *, 2015 because the leak had recurred. Upon Harris completion of the job in 2014 I had left open the ceiling of the floor below the bathroom for over 4 months to be sure there was no leak before I spent almost $1,000 and several hours restoring that ceiling and adjacent wall with plaster.

I called Harris Plumbing October *, 2015 to request their services and was told someone would respond on Tuesday, October *. When no one responded on Tuesday, I called again and was told someone would come out the next day. I called again Thursday at 4 pm. Finally, on Friday October *, when the Harris representative did arrive he told me that there is no way to tell where the leak is coming from. He then said it could be the roof. I told him we had a new roof. He then tried to blame it on our new roof, even though I told him the leak started before the new roof. He then kept insisting it could be anything. At this point he mentioned a one year warranty. At no time in the past before, during, or after completion, was I made aware implicitly or explicitly of a rigid one year warranty. The plumbing work is in an enclosed ceiling.

I hired a licensed, bonded plumbing company. A patch put on the old lead waste-bin lasted more than 30 years, the original lasted more than 70 years. Harris's work lasted barely 19 months. I was told by Harris that I would have to open the ceiling, or they would charge me to do it. They do substandard work, impose retroactive conditions, give bad customer service, and they want me to pay them to fix it again. The ceiling was opened October ** and it appears the leak is coming from under the toilet installed by Harris.

I'm trying to avoid contacting my lawyer and the ensuing legal fees. I would like to know what my legal recourse is. I would prefer to have someone else do the work this time. I would like to recover my expenses from Harris. I would like to avoid using their services again. Harris appears to be very cavalier about their customer service and relations. I would prefer to work with a more responsive company.

Thank you.

Yours truly,

Response:

I am responding to the complaint made by [redacted]. On January [redacted] and [redacted] 2014 Harris plumbing replaced a portion of the waste lines for the top floor bathroom. We replaced the toilet bowl, and the waste under the existing vanity. Our work was tested and no leaks were found. According to [redacted] he left the ceiling open for 4 months before he closed it up. Two and half weeks ago he called about a leak. Our receptionist took the information and scheduled it as an estimate for the following day October [redacted]. We were very busy and he is right we did not get to him until Friday October the [redacted]. One of our estimators Joseph upon arrival met with [redacted] and he was told that there was a leak in one of the closets on the second floor. In Fact there was a stain on the ceiling. Joseph went up to the top floor and checked for any visible leaks. He could not find any. There was a hole in the floor at the corner of the tub and he m entioned that water could have been spilled on the floor ( it happens all the times after taking a shower) and might have leaked down to the floor below. He also asked if he had any roof work done( this apartment is on the third floor the top floor). [redacted] said that he had the roof recently done. We couldn't tell where the leak was coming from. Therefore the last discussion we had was that he was going to have the ceiling open so we could go back to check if the leak came from our installation or elsewhere. If it was due to the repair we did we would go back to fix it. He agreed as a gentlemen would, but he never called back. Our estimator may have mentioned that we guarantee our work for 1 year but of course we would fix the leak if it was due to labor or defective materials provided by us. Therefore I don't think is fair for him to be asking for his money back. We have been in business for decades and this is the first time a customer has made a complai nt. The best advertisement for our company is from excellent relation with our clients. This is a simple misunderstanding that can be easily resolved. If the leak is from the repair we did 22 months ago we will gladly go back to fix it. We need [redacted] cooperation so we can check the problem.
