Harris Teeter Supermarkets Reviews (%countItem)

store ***, Raleigh, nc refusal to treat customer in a fair an equitable manner.
on Sunday, 3/11/18 I came to this store to purchase *** paper towels that was on a weekend special. I had a *** coupon of $.75 to use on this purchase. The store had sold-out and I WAS issued a rain check. Today, 3/12 I RETURNED to the store to purchase this product and use my coupon (which would have been accepted on the day before.
The cashier said it was the RULE that the store would not accept a coupon on a rain check. A lady who said she was a store mgr. confirmed that that was H.T. rule , and that the coupon would NOT be honored. This RULE IS CUSTOMER "unfriendly" and totally UNFAIR, AND IS AN unfair business practice. I AS A CUSTOMER is having to suffer because of HT BEING OUT OF A PRODUCT, AND THE STORE MANAGEMENT NOT HAVING THE COMMON SENSIBILITY TO HANDLE WHAT SHOULD HAVE BEEN ABLE TO HANDLE SUCH A SIMPLE MATTER.

Desired Outcome

I WOULD like for HT TO EXPLAIN WHY IT TAKES SUCH A SHORTED SIGHTED POSITION

On March 29th of 2017 Harris Teeter updated our raincheck policy. With these revisions, rainchcecks expire 60 days from date of issue and cannot be combined with any paper coupon for the same item. We placed signage in our stores, updated our policy online, and sent information to our customers via our eVIC email and notified some of the biggest coupon blogs.

Our stores were advised to enforce this policy so that we are consistent in following our policies and procedures.

We always strive to be in stock on all of our sale items; however if we are not we will always be glad to offer a substitution or a raincheck.

The larger issue here is that we should not be out of stock and force our customers to need a raincheck.

I have emailed the customer to obtain more information on the location(s) in which he shops so that we can review our ordering process to ensure items are available. I am also going to mail the customer a $25 gift card or issue a credit to their VIC card once I am able to obtain this information. This will be for making us aware of the stocking concerns.

We do not have plans to change or amend the policy to include allowing coupons to be used with a raincheck; however this feedback has been forwarded to senior staff for review. Also, we will work to find the root cause of the stocking concerns to ensure that this is addressed.

Harris Teeter does not back their ad nor issue enough rain checks to cover their outs. They limit 3 rainchecks per customer. This is a repeat issue
Harris Teeter is consistently out if sales items. They only will issue 3 rainchecks per customer. HT responded by claiming they will issue all rainchecks needed. the store has written instructions to only issue 3 rainchecks per customer. When rainchecks are issued, the customer cannot use their coupons with them. If the store had the item in stock, the customer would be allowed to use coupons. This is cheating the customer out of a deal. This last trip, HT was out of more than a dozen items I wanted. They only issued me three (3) rainchecks per their policy.

Desired Outcome

As of today, I have been dined a couple hundred dollars of deals. This week alone, I should have had 6 free orange juices, 2 pounds of sausage meat for .94 cents, and about a dozen other deals.

We are currently looking into this issue. Our store teams do reserve the right to limit quantities for rainchecks; however we are speaking with our district team to determine if this is the best practice for that location. I am also reaching out to Mr. today and will update as soon as I am able to speak to him.

Harris Teeter's response is only good enough if they keep their stores stocked. After the first complaint, nothing changed. If HT keeps stock, then all will work. It is also ok to be out of a few items. It is sill NOT OK for HT NOT TO ACCEPT coupons with rainchecks! The concept of "BACKING THE AD" means that customers get the deals they were promised. I was told that coupons are the same as cash by an HT manager. SO WHY DOES HT NOT ACCEPT THESE? Each coupon says it is good for any 1 item purchased. HT is not allowing this. Today, I have contacted 2 (TWO) manufacture's who issue coupons and both say this is in violation of their coupon policies if HT does not honor them. They told me they pay for space in the stores and promotional moneys to the stores for them to take their coupons. I am not sure where the disconnect comes from, but I am only trying to follow all rules and get the product at the deals I am ENTITLED to. I spoke to Brandie from HT and told her I am not happy with this. I believe this is a form of ripping off the customer and not honoring the ad.

I spoke to Mr. and explained that we do have a right to limit quantities and acceptance for coupon usage with rainchecks. He can still use a coupon; however not in conjunction with the raincheck per our written policy. I also advised Mr. that we are reviewing our auto-ordering system to ensure it is working properly and coaching management on how to manually increase an order in case of inclement weather, coupon events, etc. One issue that we run into during coupon events is that sometimes the demand is so high for an item that has a coupon that the stores do order extra; however the supplier cannot keep up with the demand so the stores may not receive the full ordered product. I did advise Mr. to give us time to address the stocking concerns and to let me know directly if he continues to encounter problems. At this time we do not plan to change our raincheck policy in regards to coupons; however the store will not be limiting rainchecks for Mr. and will be glad to offer a substitution for any out of stock items. We do back our ad by offering a substitution or raincheck for the sales price. We are also still accepting coupons; however not stacked with rainchecks.

Me an my aunt visit Harris Teeter on today an was treated very badly by two employees or managers that worked there while trying to shop for the holidays. We was singled out "quote due to our race as those black girls are back again"an refuse to help us. This was said by *** after the cashier *** called for her help due to their new machine that wasn't working at the time. *** an *** came to the register refusing to help assist him or ask want the problem was it was very disrespectful to us listen to both of them carry on about how many time I wrote checks an want are you doing back here! We couldn't say anything but do you treat all black people like this are want? An yes we feel very violated after want we heard them say an their actions in front of customers an witnesses. An they didn't even asking us how they could resolved the issues, nor apologize after they seen us upset. The gentleman that was concern about us couldn't believe that about there actions at how unprofessional managers an employees was at Harris Teeter until today he said to us he didn't no that black minorities was treated this way.

Harris Teeter Supermarkets Response

An email was sent to the customer on Tuesday 11/28 apologizing and asking for information on which store she visited so that we may address. As of yet we have not received a response.

As a VIP member and frequent Harris Teeter shopper, I must say I have never experienced the rudeness, disrespectfulness and racial discrimination I experienced today at this store. This was once my favorite store to frequent after a 45 minute trip one way. Today, I returned an unused product to the 394 location because of a freshness issue.
The HT policy states HT stands by its freshness and quality of market products and will honor a refund with additional refund for a lack of quality. To my surprise, embarrassment and disappointment I was told by the manager on duty that he would NOT be honoring the HT brand policy because he saw nothing wrong with the product and it was his decision NOT to honor the HT freshness policy.
In my 20 plus years of HT purchases I was elated to say I have not had to return a product until today and disappointed to learn the policy is not as effectively written.
I also found other staff at this location extremely rude and unprofessional during this transaction to say the least. My experience at this location has been dampened by what use to be an enjoyable experience.
It is my hope that all persons shopping in HT stores are valued and treated with respect, decency and free of judgement. It is also my hope that managers honor policies that were created by HT and implemented when needed and not feel they have the God complex to exercise denying the policy when the need arise.
Even more insulting the manger decided to debate me on what was fresh and not. I remain applauded.

Desired Outcome

Refund An apology from all staff involved.

I left a voice mail for the customer on 10/19. Mrs. also reached out to our corporate office on 10/17 regarding this concern. We were not able to locate the original purchase so we asked our store management team to investigate and follow up. Our store manager contacted Mrs. on 10/18 and was able to locate the purchase under a different phone number used for the transaction. He was also able to add her student discount. Upon the initial visit to the store the co-manager was not able to locate the purchase and the customer did not have a receipt. The store manager did search our system to try and locate the receipt for the customer. Per our refund policy we cannot refund without proof of purchase. The co-manager did refund; however did not honor the double money back guarantee. I will follow up once I am able to speak to Mrs..
