Review: My son [redacted] has gone to Harrisonburg Pediatrics since he was born on June 17, 2010. He has had [redacted] insurance, as well as Medicaid, which he now has, and I paid cash the day of in full for any visits during a lapse in coverage. I called to set up a physical required for him to start Kindergarden in August and they denied me the visit saying that I needed to switch providers because they dropped me due to a bill I was never once made aware of. I was connected to a "[redacted]" in financial that was curt and impolite. When she told me she couldn't tell me what the bill was for, the date, or the amount because it had been sent to multiple collections, I asked her to contact the collection agencies because it had to be inaccurate and I never received any bills from them. She later called me back and said it was a $20 some dollar bill that was escalated to almost $70 because of collection fees. They made zero attempts to resolve it, only offering for me to come pick up my child's information and go elsewhere for future medical visits. I explained that I owned my house and have lived there for years at the same house on file and that no mail was ever sent to me or I would have paid it. She then said certified mail also went "unclaimed." I then explained this was impossible considering I have the same exact mail carrier lady in a black jeep that pulls up directly to the house on a daily basis and if there is such certified mail, she honks her horn repeatedly and makes you come out and sign it right then and there. I do not have to go pick up any certified mail and it is therefore never "unclaimed." My credit is apparently being damaged by them and I am more than happy to pay my original 80/20 residual amount I was never aware of, but I refuse to pay the collection fees and want them removed off of my credit immediately. I am filing through the local courts if this is not resolved. I am also glad to leave this pediatrics office immediately with or without a resolution and switch practices.Desired Settlement: I want the collection fees absolved and the billing to be resolved with only the "payment due" amount to be left. I also want the collections to be closed and removed from my credit reports to every agency. If there is no resolution, I will be taking this to court.

Harrisonburg Pediatrics follows standard collection procedures for account balances. The parent involved was sent three statements, a letter that her account was to be turned over to a collection agency, and a final letter informing her of her dismissal. The parent confirmed that her correct mailing address was listed on her account. Patients are dismissed from the practice when their account is not paid in full in a timely manner.The parent paid the balance on her account in December 2013, after she had been dismissed from the practice. Appointments are not scheduled for patients who have been dismissed. Patients may write a letter to the board of directors explaining and extenuating circumstances that led to the dismissal for nonpayment.
