I reject the shoe store's response--I have received that response of undeliverable so many times, they have the correct address, they don't want to be responsible for the $non-transaction--I have right shoes and a canceled check and seven months of communicating with them as proof that they are telling an untruth.

Review: I dropped off 3 shoes to be repaid. He makes you pay up front. The slip said the shows would be ready in 2 weeks. It has been over 5 weeks and when I go to pick up my shoes he says he took them out of the store and out them in his wife's car. he will not return my shoes to me and he will not refund the prepayment that I made for the repair. I am asking that he return my 3 shoes and return my money. I don't care if he cant fix them, I just want my shoes back and my money back.Desired Settlement: return of my property

refund of pre-payment

Review: On 10/17/13 I left 2 prs. Lady's boots at Harrisonburg Shoe Repair to put new soles and heels on. Owner/repairman Scott Hughes was not in, but clerk took them (I have receipt) & said Scott would call me Mon. 10/21. He did not call, so I called the next day and spoke to Scott who said he had to have payment of $105 in advance. I gave him my credit card # & was accordingly charged. At that time, he gave me a guaranteed date of Nov. 14/2013 for completion and pickup. I went to pick up the boots on the 14th (each trip to Harrisonburg = 100-120 miles roundtrip). They were not ready...he said his dog was sick but he would have them ready the next day. We made at least 4 subsequent trips and numerous phone calls and Scott always had some excuse--he was away, he was sick; he tried sending them UPS but they were returned "undeliverable." The latter is extremely suspect since we live in a small community and the UPS man knows most everyone and if he has difficulty finding an address, he just leaves the article at the local P.O. for folks to pick up. It is now Dec. 07, 2013 and I do not have my boots and have a $105 charge on my credit card.Desired Settlement: If Scott Hughes has not repaired my boots, I want them back and my credit card charge dropped. If he has repaired them satisfactorily, I want them delivered to me.

I took a pair of boots to this establishment on 15 DEC. The lining of the right one was loose and would pull out with my foot as I tried to remove the boot. I asked for repair and was told that his dad would do the work. That took two or three tries to get done but it did get done. I got the boots back at that point. I also bought a pair of liners for the boots for $25. The total bill was $56 and I was required to pay it up front. Here it is 17 FEB and I am still waiting for the liners. He told me several times that the problem was that [redacted] was not running during the holidays. He also told me that he would call me when the liners came in. I made a couple of phone calls and a couple of stops at the establishment but still no liners. I will never patronize this business again and I hope no one else does either. I contacted someone in law enforcement about the issue but all I got out of that was a recommendation to contact the Revdex.com. I guess it's one thing if you steal from a business and something else all together if they steal from you.Desired Settlement: I want my $25 returned to me.

Review: On 3/22/16, I left my brand new Laredo western boots at the Harrisonburg Shoe Repair, to have the heels replaced with lower, traditional-style western boot heels;to have anti-slip sole pads applied; and to have plastic heel taps put on. I was required to prepay, in full, which I did. My debt card was charged for $69.69, which includes the above alterations, plus a pair of boot hooks ($13.95). My receipt shows a due date of 4/4/16. Due to road construction to commence on Friday, 4/1/16, I called the shoe repair on Wednesday 3/30/16 and spoke with Scott Hughes, the owner, and asked if there was any possibility the boots could be ready on Thursday, 3/31/16, to avoid the road work. He told me he would call me back by 2:30pm, after speaking with his dad, who I was told was the person that would replace the heels. When I was not called back and allowing extra time, I called the shoe repair and was told by Scott Hughes that the boots would be ready on Thursday, 3/31/16. I agreed to pick them up no sooner than 3pm, that day. When I arrived, I was informed by Scott Hughes that the boots were not ready. I asked to see them, so I could see how they were looking, with what had been done, so far, as I was told his dad had begun work on them. However, upon seeing the 1 boot presented to me, I saw that nothing had been done. He 1st offered to ship them to me, but then took that offer back by saying he would deliver them to my house himself, on Sunday, 4/3/16 . No boots received on Sunday and no phone call received. When I drove back to the shoe repair (it's an hours drive - one way), on the original due date (4/4/16), about 3:30pm, I was told they were ready, but not in the shop, but in another vehicle his wife was driving. He offered to get the boots and agreed to meet me in [redacted] parking lot, at 4:45pm - 5pm and would call me. I waited there until 6pm, then went to dinner at the [redacted], when he did not show, nor call. At 7:04pm, I left Harrisonburg, VA and drove home, arriving at about 8:04pm. Still no phone call, from Scott Hughes. And, no call from him on Tuesday, 4/5/16, either. Today, Wednesday, 4/6/16, I drove to the shoe repair for the 3rd time to pick up my boots, arriving about 11:30am. This time, I was told they were in his dad's truck and his dad had driven to [redacted] Again, I was promised he would get the boots to the shop, so I could pick them up and that he (Scott Hughes) would call me in a few minutes. I explained to him that if I did not receive the boots, in good repair, today, that he would be leaving me with no recourse, but to take further action. I left, shopped briefly at the local [redacted], then went to lunch, at a buffet called [redacted], also local. No phone call. At 2pm-ish I went back to the shoe repair. I was told that he had to go pick up his son, but that he and his dad would meet me at the shoe repair, between 3:45pm and 4pm. Neither one showed. There lights were off, the door locked, the neon sign read closed, and a hand written sign was on the front door that read there was a doctors appointment and he'd reopen tomorrow morning. He had given me his cell number the last time I saw him, so I called and left a message to relay that I was really disappointed - I told him my my feeling were hurt. I took pictures of the note and store front information. Later I noticed a text message on my phone, timed at 3:45pm, from his cell number, reading that he had gone to meet his dad in [redacted] and that his dad had been side swiped by a tractor trailer, while turning to get gas. No mention of his intentions regarding the boots. I saw nothing in the accident reports for that area. If this accident truly did take place, what condition are my boots in, as a result? Scott Hughes seems to be quite practiced from the beginning, starting with requiring prepayment, then strings of excuses for not having the item ready for pick up by the promised date. Plus, he has on his receipts that if left 30 days after the pick up due date, the items are given to charity.Desired Settlement: I want my boots returned to me, even if no work has been done on them. If no work has been done, or for whatever part of the job left undone, I would like a refund. If the boots are damaged, I want a full refund, plus the cost of the new boots and new orthotics I purchased elsewhere - $129 + $69.69 - $13.95 = $184.74. If the boots are in new, undamaged condition and the jobs requested have been completed properly, then no refund is necessary, just the boots turned over to me. And, to avoid any further delivery issues, I want to pick the boots up at the shoe repair, where I left them for alteration.

I have reviewed the response offer made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and have determined that this proposed action would not resolve my complaint. For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.

This is a follow up to the "resolution" of my complaint against Scott Hughes and Harrisonburg Shoe Repair. Monday morning, 4/25/16, I entered the shoe repair shop, with police escourt. Mr. Hughes promptly handed over my "altered" western boots to me, as sweet as [redacted] in wolves clothing. "Just as [he] promised," he said to impress the officer. First, I am extatic that I, finally, have my boots back, over a month later and 7 two hour round trip attempts to try and retrieve them, wild goose chases, and an endless stream of excuses. Second, I paid for stacked leather heels, but got some kind of synthetic substitute. The inferior craftsmanship on the heels leaves a lot to be desired. There are black marks on the foot of the boots. Heel taps that I paid for were not put on. And, my brand new orthotics were taken out and not reinserted. I have not tried them on yet, but I can just imagine, as the toes of the boots now stick up in the air. He had assured me he would not make the heel so low that this would occur. Needless to say, I will never patronize his establishment, ever again. And, I do not understand why he's allowed to say in business.Thank you for your help, in resolving this matter. And, hats off to my silent partner, the officer. I am certain that I would not have my boots, today, if it hadn't been for his presence and our united efforts.

Regards,

Review: I dropped off a pair of winter boots to be re-soled the week before Thanksgiving and was given a ticket saying they would be ready Dec. 18. I came by the store on Dec. 19th was told that the shipment of shoe repair supplies was "delayed because of the holiday". I stopped by the following week and was told that the glue for the boots that arrived was "frozen" and had to be returned, but he would call me. He never called so I came back the second week in January to check again was told that the soles that he ordered were the wrong size and had to be returned. I returned to the store several more times to inquire about the boots and was give an different excuse each time why the boots were not ready. I asked if there could be an adjustment for the price ($52 which was paid in advance) since I had to wait so long and he indicated he would do that. When the boots were finally ready on January 21 (!) (again I stopped by the store, he never called as he said he would to tell me they were ready). I asked for the cost adjustment we discussed. Instead of the cost adjustment, he said he would give me a credit for my next repair. I have no intention of ever using this business again and said I would prefer a cost adjustment/ refund as we discussed. He said that he would have to request a check "from [redacted] from the owner of the store". He said he was "just the manager" and he was not able to issue a refund. I asked to speak directly with the owner but the manager refused to provide his contact information. I am very dissatisfied with this very poor customer service and lack of business integrity.Desired Settlement: I would like to speak with the owner of the business to provide feedback about improving customer relations. I would also like to have a full refund for having to wait 2 MONTHS for a pair of new soles. The store manager never called me to explain why there was a delay or to apologize, even though he said he would each time I came in. He should have let me know up front that there could be delays, and should have called me to let me know what was happening so I did not have to stop by the store each time to inquire (I live almost an hour away). If I had known there would be such a delay, I would certainly have taken them elsewhere to be repaired.

Review: On Sept. 6, 2014, I wrote a check to Harrisonburg Shoe Repair for $76.00 to resole a pair of Redwing work boots. The work was promised by Sept. 30. I called numerous times and stopped in 3-4 times over the next four months. My trips to pick up the shoes were in response to promises of work completed. On each occasion an excuse was offered and a new promise made. On Dec. 31,2014, I was told that their glue had dried up. I requested my unfixed boots and a refund. My address was taken and I was promised a refund within 2 weeks by mail. It has been three weeks and no refund has been issued.Desired Settlement: I want my $76.00 refund.

Review: I used to live in Virginia, I had hip surgery and need a half inch put on my left shoes. I have used this shoe repair before with great results, and they have my information, and they do shoe repair by mail/telephone communication. I called, said I was sending three left shoes, and how much money should I send for the repairs and postage? I sent the shoes with a check for $250. It has been five plus months, check was cashed, no shoes. Numerous phone calls by me: it has been sent, the shoes have been sent, a package was sent back-probably your shoes-what is your address again? I sent a registered letter, they received it but still no response. I'm clueless about what is going on-this makes no sense.Desired Settlement: I would like my three left shoes returned to me, I would like my money refunded.

Harrisonburg Shoe Repair:

I did receive the shoes that you repaired. Sadly, you added an inch, instead of the one half inch that my letter to you asked for, and the half inch required that was in your records from previous transactions.

The $150 dollar shoe was streaked with black, beside having the one inch lift.

Review: Shoes sent for repair were never returned. Credit card was charged for the repair. Calls never returned. Lies about where my shoes are.Desired Settlement: I would like my shoes returned, and I think this corporation should be publicly charged. I will be contacting police.

Business

Response:

Scott Hughes, owner states the consumer's shoes have been sent to her. The shoes were sent to an incorrect address and we were not notified until consumer was back from vacation. Once we discovered the consumer had not received the shoes, the shoes were sent back to us and then sent to the correct address.

Review: On August 25, 2015 I submitted a pair of boots to the Harrisonburg Shoe Repair for modification. I requested and paid in advance to have an elastic backed leather strip (approx. 8 1/2 inches length by 3 inches in width) removed from a pair of knee length boots. The boots are LD Tuttle "The Spaper Over The Knee Boots." They are Italian Goatskin leather and were purchased for approximately $900.00. I also submitted two additional pairs of boots to be stretched. Over the next two months I repeatedly tried to call or stop by the business in order to pick up my boots. I was successful only once in several attempts to contact the business by phone or in person. On September 24th I spoke in person with the man operating the shop. He stated that my boots were not at the [redacted] location because he had given them to his dad to do the modification work and the boots were at his father's house. I asked to be given back my other two pairs and he said they were also at his dad's house. After several additional attempts to pick up the boots, I returned on October 15, 2015 And was handed the three pairs of submitted boots in a gray plastic bag. Only upon inspecting them at home did I realize that the small section of elastic backed leather from the back portion of the boot had not been removed, but rather the large Goatskin leather portions of the calf diameter (measuring 9 1/2 inches tapered length by 9 1/2 inches width) had been removed from the side of each boot, rendering them unusable and unwearable. I have repeatedly made attempts with the business to determine why this occurred and what has happened to the missing pieces of leather. I have been unsuccessful.Desired Settlement: I am asking for financial compensation for my destroyed boots.

The repair shop had changed my son's life. He is only 13 and had to have a 3/4" lift on his shoe and the staff made the lift look like it was supposed to be there and did the modification fast for the first day of school. My son just wants to fit in and now he does.
