Harry Merrill & Sons, Inc. Reviews (2)

I worked with Harry Merrill to create my engagement ring. I went to their establishment and asked if they could meet my needs at a price of $4,000.00. They agreed. I was very detailed in my request even sending an email with pictures and descriptions of what I was looking for. Something went The ring that I was proposed to with was not the ring that I had asked for. Not wanting to hurt my fiances feeling I tried to wait and see if I could learn to love the ring that my fiance proposed to me with. A few months went by and I was still not 100% happy with it. 4 months after I had the ring I found the receipt for the ring and it was $4,900.00, almost $1,000.00 over the budget I had discussed with the jeweler.
Now I had a ring that I was not happy with and it cost more than discussed. Was my fiance taken advantage of? I started to ask him questions about the ring and his experience and things just didn't line up in terms of of what I talked to the jeweler about. A few weeks later I could not get my ring on which was a little big to begin with. It was bent so much that I could not fit over my knuckle. This was a platinum ring and that should not have happened. Now I had a ring that was not to my desire, bent and overpriced. I had to contact Harry Merrill.
I went down to Harry Merrill and explained my situation and all of my issues with the ring. It was a little over 5 months after I had been proposed to. They said they were willing to work with me to fix the ring to my needs. There would be an extra cost and I was unsure of it. I would be giving the Jeweler metal and diamonds and still be loosing money in the deal. I followed up and asked about the changes we could make to the ring and the cost. The owner Robert was offended with questions asked and said he did not want to work with me. The questions asked pertained to cost of diamonds, platinum and labor to understand the additional money we were going to be charged for the changes. All professional and reasonable questions.
Robert was rude on the phone. When I called back a few days later to talk about options of working on the ring, the owner (Robert's Mother) of the store said they would not help to make things right. Every time I had a conversation with an employee at this business, they had a different story. Very unprofessional. I feel that my Fiance was taken advantage of with a "bait and switch". I felt that I was not listened to as a customer. We spent almost $5,000.00 at this business and I could not be any more unsatisfied. It did not have to be this way and I do not think they will ever understand how upset this has made me. I understand this is a business and not a charity but I was trying to work with them and I was insulted and taken advantage of. No refund or buy back was offered. I would never recommend this Jeweler to anyone.
