Review: We asked [redacted], owner of Hartland Construction Company (HCC), to provide a budget quote on having our kitchen remodeled. During the quote process, at no time did Mr. [redacted] mention any cost associated with the quote process. Mr. [redacted] sent out a kitchen designer to determine the scope of the project. We did not ask for this to be done, Mr. [redacted] made the decision to do this himself. The kitchen designer ended up making a few hand sketches of a kitchen concept.After receiving the quote for the kitchen remodel, we received a $750 bill from HCC for "Design Services". Again, at no time did Mr. [redacted] mention any cost associated with preparing the quote for our kitchen. During subsequent e-mail correspondence, Mr. [redacted] actually stated to me "You and I did not have a conversation regarding costs."After receiving the bill, I contacted Mr. [redacted] and nicely explained that a bill (and an outrageous one at that) can not be sent for a cost that we were never notified of. However, realizing that several hours had been spent by the kitchen designer making a few hand sketches, I offered to pay $250, which is more than reasonable considering the crude hand sketches provided.Mr. [redacted] then proceeded to try to intimidate us by sending a nasty e-mail stating that if we did not pay the $750 he would put a lien on our house and charge us an hourly rate for answering our e-mails. This is quite simply unethical business practice, and is the main reason I am contacting the Revdex.com.Billing people for fees that were never divulged, then using intimidation & threats to get them to pay the bill is not only unethical but illegal.Desired Settlement: I would like HCC to officially retract the bill for $750 that was sent to us.
