DATE: May 12, 2017   The following information is forwarded per your request: 1. Customer came to the Shop with a [redacted] engine on 1/16/2017. 2. Problem: Customer entered shop and requested we change her PCV valve, air filter, and clean the throttle body. Technician...

asked what was the vehicle doing to cause her to think that. She stated her car was stalling and cutting off. After inspection the technician informed customer that that was not the problem causing the vehicle to cut off. She was informed that the intake was sucking in too much air from the manifold and that further test would be required to assess other problems. Customer stated that her uncle had told her she needed to change the PCV Valve, Air filter and clean choke and that’s what she wanted done. Requested work was completed at a total cost of $177.19 to include both parts and labor. Customer stated to receptionist that she felt it should not cost that much. Customer had been informed prior to the start of work that the Shop hourly rate was $90.00 an hour. Receptionist informed me about the situation. I stated just charge her $90.00 (job took longer) and for the parts, all totaling $106.22. Customer paid $105.00; for the sake of peace I said don’t worry about the difference. She stated she shouldn’t have to pay that much since her problem was not completely solved. NOTE: Customer was informed in writing that the Intake was sucking air through the manifold and this was contributing to why her car was cutting off along with the fact that she needed to replace her distributor. She again stated that her uncle had told her that the problem was as earlier stated and refused shop recommendations. 3. On 1/23/2017 customer returned to the shop stating again that her vehicle was still cutting off and was running hot, and needed a thermostat. The shop did exactly what was requested and in doing so encountered other problems. The vehicle also required not only a thermostat but a thermostat housing gasket, a flange gasket, manifold gasket intake set, PVC valve grommet, coolant, and a distributor rotor button. Parts totaled $104. 92; labor was $245.00 with a total cost of $356.21 with tax. Customer paid $350.00 cash. Customer was informed that her radiator was leaking around the seams which meant that she required a new radiator. The shop ordered and purchased a radiator for the customer at a cost of $100.00. 4. On 2/10/17 customer returned to the shop to have the radiator replaced. While replacing the radiator the technician observed that the coolant was a brown murky slush and had to flush the entire system to ensure proper circulation. If the flushing action had not taken place it would have caused other problems that could prove to be major. The job was completed at no labor cost to the customer. Customer paid for radiator. Note: Customer was informed at each visit that her vehicle still required a distributor to satisfy the Intake manifold leak problem. Customer refused shop recommendation again. (VECHICLE HAD NO REVERSE which caused a major inconvenience) 6. Customer was afforded several courtesies: a. Customer was picked up at their residence at 7:00am and taken to their work site located on [redacted] b. Transported from shop to work site and was returned to the shop after completion of their work day. This courtesy was extended to customer on several occasions. c. The shop also afforded the customers uncle who is a retired auto mechanic the opportunity to come in, view and given a brief as to what action was being taken as it relates to subject vehicle. Uncle understood situation as explained. d. Actual labor cost and total working hours spent on subject vehicle are not fully reflected in total cost of work completed. e. Technician purchased a Pick-up Assemble at his own expense and was going to install item at no labor cost to customer. 7. Customer was scheduled to come to the shop on Monday, 4/24/17 to have Pic -up Assembly installed. Customer called shop on Friday, 4/21/17 and canceled appointment and informed the shop that she had contacted the Revdex.com (Revdex.com) and that she was going to get her money back. Each problem area that the customer was monetarily charged for was completed. Technician went over and above on each requirement and more. Every possible effort was made to satisfy this customer’s request.
