We also do not want anyone's companion to be painful or experience pain during a procedure and we feel that is a top priority to keep your pet pain free. We firmly believe that we reasonably priced. Yes you have to sign forms before any anesthetic procedure so that you understand the risks of these procedures, just like you have to do for human medicine. IV fluid therapy is extremely important during anesthesia to keep renal perfusion (kidney perfusion) working or functioning during anesthesia. If this is not done there could be possible renal complications. A verbal estimate was given to you prior to your procedure as you stated yourself in your posting of $370.00 plus extractions. Unfortunately, during dentals we never know how many extractions we will need until we are actually doing the dental. During [redacted]'s procedure she had multiple extractions. Lidocaine or bupivacaine is used to block an area around the tooth before extraction to eliminate pain for [redacted]. This is the same philosophy and practice that is done in human dentistry. This block is ALWAYS given before extractions so that there is not a pain response or a pain "wind up". Pain has been proven medically to delay healing and it creates unnecessary discomfort for [redacted] that we can eliminate and we do not want any of our patients going through that. These medications are given in small amounts because they are given locally and they are extremely safe for older and younger patients. Dr [redacted] did explain these protocols and procedures to you. We again are sorry about this miscommunication. Buprenex is more "potent" than morphine but potency deals with pharmacology and not physiology. A drug that is more "potent" does not mean that it is stronger than morphine, what it means is that you can use less (in mg) of that drug than the other drug to get the desired effect. Using less of a drug to get a desired effect is usually safer. Buprenex is more effective in small animals and is one of the safest drugs. We would welcome the opportunity to discuss this further with you. The drugs chosen for these procedures are safe for our older companions. Your pets safety and well being are our utmost of importance at Hart's Animal Hospital.[redacted], our hospital manager did call you multiple times without a return phone call so we apologize for the miscommunication. We always clean and brush these areas out prior to them going home.
