Paid for diamond and ring to custom mount. When I came to pick up ring, diamond I chose was not same mounted on the ring. Charged $16,373.12. No ring Chose a diamond and ring for diamond to be mounted at Hart's Fine Jewelry in Reno. I pre-paid with credit card $16,373.12. When I came to pick up the ring, the diamond mounted on ring was not the diamond I chose. I asked the owner why it looked so yellow and he explained that mounting the diamond enhanced the yellow shade. There was no yellow shade whatsoever in the diamond I initially chose. I left the merchandise at the Jewelry store. He called and asked if I was willing to choose another diamond and I declined. Desired SettlementRefund Business Response In response to the following complaint [redacted]. We stand by our return policy clearly posted in the store. Customer did pick out a loose diamond 1.59ct princess cut. Rating of the diamond is a J vs2 clearly stated on the diamond card when presented to the customer. It was also clearly discussed that the diamond had a slight tint of yellow and compared the stone to other loose diamonds in stock before the customer made the decision to purchase the stone. Customer then picked out a mounting of one of our designer lines. Customer did prepay for the merchandise and was clearly happy with his decision. The diamond was then bezel set into a 18kt mounting and then sized to a size 4. All of the alterations were completed on time and when promised. Customers first response when viewing the final piece "that diamond is yellow and not the same diamond I purchased I want my money back!" I replied this is the diamond you purchased a J color diamond that contains a slight tint of yellow. His reply was "I don't care about ratings!". I then said you should care about ratings because it describes a diamond. Also when you bezel set a diamond with a j color into a mounting with a halo of F-G colored diamonds surrounding it, The slight tint of yellow of the diamond is more enhanced and could be more noticeable. Customer was just belligerent and demanded his money back. I then proceeded to tell him that since he wasn't happy with the stone he chose, that I would get another stone for him that was rated in the G-I range which would be near colorless. Problem solved I thought. He then demanded his money back again and said after we return his money he would come in and look at the new stone. I then replied no to the refund but I will get another stone in for him. That did not sit well as he stormed out of the store. I did get another stone for him as I promised, but the customer never came in or returned any phone calls. Because the diamond was bezel set into a ring and sized to a 4, the mounting could never be sold as new again, that is the reason we would only exchange the merchandise. It was clearly a simple fix when we offered to exchange the diamond. The customers actions were as if he had found another ring and was trying to get out of his obligation with us.
