We reroofed this trailer house in in NW MontanaThe roof pitch is approximately only a 2/pitch so we suggested to the homeowner installing ice & water shield on the entire substrate per national roofing codeThe homeowner agreed, so the ice & water shield was installed over the entire substrateWe never suggested or insinuated that the roof system would prevent ice damming issues, only that national roofing code states that any roof 3/pitch or less using a shingle product should have an ice & water shield underlayment over the entire substrateThis last fall (2016) we had record rainfallI asked the homeowner if the roof had leaked during that time and he responded "no it didn't"Asphalt residential roof systems are not designed for ponding water, only to shed water .In this case ice damming is obviously the issue due to lack of mitigation and/or maintenance including shoveling the eaves of the roof and/or installing a heat tape system (which was recommended by Hartz Roofing Incduring the initial estimate/roof inspection and ignored by the homeowner due to the costs)I personally came out to the home this year, January 2017, after receiving a nasty phone call from the homeowner and took pictures of the issues which are attachedI shoveled the eaves on the North facing side of the roof at no costI never heard from the homeowner after that dayNo roofing contractor, general contractor, or shingle manufacturers insurance company will pay for ice dam mitigation or damages incurred due to ice dammingI suggested that the homeowner report the issues to his homeowners insurance as they will cover any damages created due to ice damming and unusual weather conditionsThis years (& 2017) winter has been unbelievably unusual and we have dealt with literally hundreds of roof issues due to this exact issueWe’d suggest the homeowner install a heat tape system as proposed by Hartz Roofing Incback in Hartz Roofing Inchad a website built by a third party and was unaware of the Revdex.com seal being placed on our pageThe website builder was immediately contacted upon notice of this issue and the logo has since been removed
