We sell hundreds of yards of this material every week with no complaints. If Mr. [redacted] is unhappy we are sorry. I have refunded $302.94 to his credit card as of this morning August 31, 2015

Business states "we issued a full refund to the customer and an apology as well as called the customer myself and sent her a copy of the receipt for the full refund of $140.23. I again apologized for the run around and told her to keep a look out on her credit card statement for that refund".

I did receive my refund for the “material.” I would just warn anyone looking to buy decomposed...

granite from Hasties, that the product they are selling and calling decomposed granite really isn’t. It’s dirt, rock and sand (which is why Hastie’s was careful to call it “material” in their response). Had Hastie’s properly labeled their product it would have saved me a great deal of expense, time installing and removing, leading to much aggravation. Best to educate yourself and not trust this company's products.

The complaint has been taken care of. I contacted [redacted] and [redacted] will replace her windshield. It takes a couple of days to get the paperwork to make sure if there was rock on our truck at the time of the incident. We have also talked with our front office as to the way they handle...

these complaints. One question, this was not a customer of ours, how is this a customer complaint?

Review: On 8/19/14 I ordered 5 yards of 1 1/2" Sonoma Gold Rock to be delivered. They delivered 2" to 3", not what I ordered. I called them they said they would check the rock bin & would call me back, after 2 hours I called them a secound time, the person said he still had not had time to check the rock bin but would do so & call me back, no phone call. I called them back a fourth time & the person said that was the way it came out of the quarry and he could not help me, I asked him to pick it up, he said he would not but I could return it for full credit, I told him I had no way of returning it, he said that was my problem, first of all, all rock is screened to size. After a fifth phone call about the wrong size rock I asked him if he could help me in the way of a credit to my credit card. He said he would check with his boss & get back to me. As usual no phone call. This is no way to treat a customer, to just ignore him, not return his phone call, I am stuck with 5 yards of mis sized rock. They advertised 1 1/2" and I received 2"to3", not what I wanted as it does not fit my landscaping, now I have to look at it every day. I paid $410 for this rock & I am requesting a full credit to my credit card. The rock looks like hell as it does not fit my plan. I had to spread it as it was partialy blocking my street. Thank you for your time & consideration in this matter.Desired Settlement: Certified Cashiers Check Mailed to My Home Address.

Response:

The rock delivered to Mr. [redacted] came from the quarrey as an 1 1/2 size ( they only have 4 sizes, path fines, 3/8", 3/4" and 1 1/2) They are the only quarrey that produces this material, no matter who you buy this rock from it will be the same. When Mr. [redacted] ordered this material he did not come in and look at the material. He did sign the invoice stating that it was correct in size and color, the invoice also states that it is a natural product and that we cannot guarantee a perfect match. Mr. [redacted] was told he could return the material for a refund, he was also told we would pick it up, but there would be a charge for this service. He was never told at anytime that it was his problem. If you would care to come into any of our locations we would be happy to show you the material and invoices showing the sizes the quarrey produces. At this point he has and has used the material. Again if he would like to return it we would give him a full refund. We would still be willing to send out a crew to pick it up for a charge.

Response:

I am rejecting this response because:

The rock may come from the same quarry but it is however screened to size, it has to be in order for landscapers to proper fill & complete jobs to customer spec. I did in fact go out to the Berry street location a few days befor & loot at the rock in the bin. I did not sign the the invoice, my contractor did prior to dumping. ( I have the invoice to prove it)Also the driver did not show the product to anyone prior to dumping. I did call them 5 times regarding the pick up of the rock, explained to them I am 68 years ould & retired, had no way of returning the rock to them, agreed he did not say it was my problem, I believe he used the word"issue". The person I spoke with asked what it would take to make me happy, I replied to him Credit my credit card $100.00. He never returned that call either so I decided to increase my asking credit to the full amount. "FYI" they wanted to chrge me $60.00 per hour to pick it up when it was no fault of mine in the first place. I knew Hasties would not make no attempt to at least make things right, too bad.

Business

Response:

The 1 1/2 Sonoma Gold is the largest size the Quarry makes. The material was loaded at our Berry St. location, so it would be the same material he had looked at a few days before. Again we sent the material he ordered and the same material he had come in to look at.

Review: As I was driving to work on Hwy 50 W around 6:45 am, on Sept. 15, 2015 when a rock hit my windshield which came out of Hastie's Capitol Sand & Gravel. I have pictures of the dump truck with no cover. I called Hastie's to report the damage and they gave me the option to come in and fill out a claim or they will mail me a form. I decided to go into the office at [redacted], [redacted] and file a windshield claim (it was actually a form entitled "windshield claim" which means it happens all the time) The guy at the front counter took my form and said a [redacted] will call me, he is the safety manager.I called Sept. 21, and left a message with the guy who answered the phone.I called Sept. 22 and was told [redacted] was in a meeting till 11 am. I called again at 12:15 and I was told he was too busy to talk, I can leave a message. According to [redacted], this is an occurring incident with Hastie's Capitol Sand & Gravel.Desired Settlement: I want someone responsible from Hastie's to contact me and replace my windshield since it is a DMV violation.

Response:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to my concern, and find that this resolution is satisfactory to me. I called [redacted] to make appointment since nobody called me, drove to [redacted] and they replaced my windshield last Friday. No, I'm not a customer of Hastie's, I'm a victim.

Review: On July 6, 2015 I purchased 5.5 yards of decomposed granite (DG) from Hasties Capitol Sand and Gravel. I had the product delivered and spent over two days installing in my backyard with a contractor. I had selected DG after much research and was looking forward to having the characteristics that it offers. What Hasties sold me was not decomposed granite as represented on my receipt. The product Hasties sold me was actually some combination of clay, sand and rock. When I contacted Hasties and spoke with [redacted], I did not get a straight answer regarding the composition of the product. I requested that a manager get back to me regarding the situation and emailed pictures of my product installed. I did not hear back and after several days I called again and [redacted] asked the manager what they could do and they offered to provide me 1 yard of Hasties Premium DG but the manager never bothered to talk to me. I drove to their location from Folsom to see the Premium DG, and it appeared to also have been cut substantially with sand. I determined the only way to get real screened DG was to purchase the product someplace other than Hasties. I had to remove the original 5.5 yards of clay, dirt and sand from my backyard and re-installed with new product from another vendor.I am surprised Hasties sells a product that is not what is advertised. I have samples of the product, pictures of it installed and with water on it to show how it turns to mud. This exercise has cost me hours of time, my own labor, aggravation, hundreds of dollars in contractor installation, removal and cost new material. On August 16, 2015 I sent the above complaint to [redacted] the email address provided by them for contact and never heard back.Desired Settlement: I am requesting a refund of $302.94 (transaction #[redacted]).

Review: On Saturday 5/21/16, I went to Hasties Sand and Gravel on Jackson Road to order one yard of cedar mulch and one yard of redwood mulch for a total of $119.88 which included a $40 charge for delivery; I asked for the earliest a.m. delivery for Friday, 5/27. The man who took my order said it would be delivered between 7:30 a.m. and 9:00 a.m. On 5/27 I called Hasties at 7:55 a.m. to check the delivery status and was told I would get it "sometime this morning". I called back at 8:45 a.m. and asked to speak to the manager regarding my order. A woman got on the phone and began screaming a tirade of reasons why I hadn't received my order yet. At some point in her tirade she said that my order was being loaded and sent out now. At 9:00 a.m., I received a call from Hasties saying they were cancelling my order and asking for my credit card information so they could credit my account for the material and non-delivery. I gave them the information but the credit still has not shown up on my account. I have not received any material or delivery from Hasties; I want a refund of $119.88 issued to me.Desired Settlement: I want an immediate refund from Hasties Sand and Gravel, [redacted]A in the amount $119.88.

Response:

Good morning. Per our conversation earlier. This customer placed an order which she requested an am delivery which can come anytime between 7-12. We never guarantee times but you can request morning or afternoon. [redacted] called at 9am cussing at my customer service clerk with a man in the background yelling asking for a manager. A female manager got on the line and explained that we normally don't guarantee times but she would happily check on the order. [redacted] than started screaming at the manager and the man in the background made vulgar comments of a sexual nature. A male manager took over the call at this point and [redacted] continued to make really inappropriate and harassing conversation. It made the whole office very uncomfortable as we have never had a customer act this way. We cancelled her order and she should receive her refund within 10 business days. This was a Holiday weekend with Memorial Day so it could take a few extra days due to that. We have been in business in Sacramento for over 75 years and take pride in our customer service and in all of these years have never had a customer behave this way.

Review: I purchased 1/2 yard of 3/8 salt and pepper gravel. it is filled with cat poop. Not just on top but all the way through. I had it covered until use and 2 hunting dogs roam the area 24/7 so it was not a local cat.My dogs live to kill...as many squirrels, doves and rats have learned. After several calls, a manager finally called me back and implied it was not their problem but either a local cat or a supplier problem(still they sold it to me...). they offered another 1/2 yard of same. why would I want more poop? He said he would check with supplier and call me back. I am still waiting for that call.... it has cost me time, labor and over 30 bucks to clean the batch, one bucket at a time with rinsing, bleaching and enzyme cleaner to make it usable. So, poor product, poor service.Desired Settlement: I would like a refund and the cost of the materials that it took to make the product useful.

Response:

First I would like to say that in over 70 years in business we have never recived a complaint like this. We pick this material up in 20 -26 ton loads, multiple time per week. When I called the quarry to tell them the complaint, they laughed at me!

We did at the time of the complaint offer to replace the material, she did not want it. We have sent a check for the price of the material plus the $30.00 she asked for. If you would like a check # or copy of the check please let me know.

Consumer

Response:

I am rejecting this response because: the business called me and said they were sending me a check in the amount of the order which was 25 dollars. they did not offer to pay for the enzyme cleaner to remove the smell of the cat urine and feces as they have stated in the response. So what they told you and what they offered me today were not the same. When I have received a check for the FULL amount I will accept the response.

Consumer

Response:

Consumer states that she is getting a check sent to her in the full amount. Complaint has been resolved.
