Review: Was not notified of towing until I realized my car was gone.

12/18 (7 pm)- I came home from work and discovered that my secondary car was gone. I then went to the gate to get the information of the towing company, knowing that my car had expire registration since August 2013. I was informed that my car had been towed 12/17 at noon.

12/20 (4:08 pm)- After being in communication with HB Towing I called Hastings Park to ask if they had any pictures so I can present to my parents in regard to getting financial help with my car being towed. I spoke with [redacted], the Assistant Manager, she informed me that they have pictures of all the cars that they tag to be towed. I then asked her if there was a possibility that I can get the pictures, she then told me that if I called the towing company that they could provide me with the pictures. I told her I would call HB Towing but that I still wanted to see the pictures that they had just to expand my evidence that I would present to my parents. She said she would look for the pictures and she would call me back.

12/23 (3:26 pm): I called to ask about the pictures and was transferred to [redacted]. She asked if I had called the towing company about the pictures. I informed her I did but that I still needed the pictures that the apartment had given that I was filing a complaint against the towing company with the Revdex.com and CHP. She told me that I would have to call HB Towing because they are the ones that tag the cars and take the pictures; The apartment management only expects tenants to come once they are tagged to speak with a manager, and if the fail to come into the office then they are forced to authorize the tow.

12/23 (3:35 pm) I call to speak with [redacted] again but I am informed she stepped out. The woman then informed me that she was the manager, [redacted]. I told her about my car being towed and how I had wanted all the evidence for my case against HB Towing. She said that HB Towing emails her the copies they take and that she could look it up. I informed her that I had talked to [redacted], but she kept pushing me to contact the towing company and I had just called to give them a courtesy call that I was filing a complain against the apartment. She was confused and said okay, that they have all the information to back the authorizing of my vehicle. I told her that I was aware of that, but that I just didn't want the complain to be a surprise.Desired Settlement: I have lived at Hastings Park for almost a year, I am aware that many tenants have multiple cars. The car that was towed was my secondary car. I am aware about why it was towed and the policy that was broken. However, I am associated with various managers of apartment complexes and when I called to ask for advice they told me when they, themselves would tag a car, they would also put a notification on the tenants door as a courtesy. The time period between when my car was tagged and when it was actually towed was 7 days. Within those 7 days I only went to the car on Dec. 14, 3 days prior to it being towed. I did not see the tag, even when I opened the driver's door. I was expecting to be since my primary car was tagged in September. I am a full-time student and work part-time, If I had been notified about my car being potentially towed I would have gone to the office and informed them that I was saving money to transport it to my parents in Southern California or I would have found another place to put my car. I just want the management team to take into consideration that many people do not access their car daily, therefore they should put notification letters or notes on the tenants door, that way they can avoid the $600 fee that I had to pay to gain my car back. I am not mad at Hastings Park, but I do not want anyone to through what I went through.

Response:

On December 10th, 2013, White Chevy S10 was tagged for expired registration. Tags and pictures were completed by one of our outside vendors; HP Towing. After hearing no word in regards to the tow tag placed on the Chevy; we then authorized HP Towing to tow the vehicle. The Chevy was in a unmarked parking stall and is an unmarked vehicle, giving us no knowledge of who the Chevy belongs to. Vehicle was then towed after 96 hours on December 17th, 2013. Attached are photos to show the truck had been tagged and to show expired registration.
