Hawaii Massage and Reflexology Reviews (2)

Review: I received a gift certificate for $55 to Hawaii Massage for my birthday in November of 2012. On June 7, 2013 I tried to redeem my certificate and the clerk at the front desk said I couldn't use it due to the change of ownership. The clerk asked me when I received my certificate and then preceded to tell me that there was a change of ownership as of June 2013. There is no expiration date on my certificate, and regardless of who the new owners are, they should honor my certificate as it was paid in cash and should hold its value. Shouldn't purchasing gift certificates be a guarantee you can use it anytime you want especially when there is no expiration date? The clerk was very inconsiderate of my situation and didn't provide me with any type of compensation. As a consumer, am I suppose to drive by the place all the time and make sure they are still in business? I live down the street from this establishment and there was no sign up to say they were changing owners or going out of business. They even kept the same name.

Desired Settlement: DesiredSettlementID: Other (requires explanation)

All I would like them to do is honor my gift certificate or provide me with a full refund.

Business' Initial Response

She needs to redeem the certificates at the location where she or her families bought them . There is address and phone number on the certificates . She sent the complaint related the wrong company . The location she got the certificates is 4010 foothill blvd . She should send the complaint to them . We are not the same company .

Consumer's Final Response

Consumer states she dealt with the foothills location, and that the location on pleasant grove blvd is also a Hawaii Massage, but separate. It seems someone is lying. She never dealt with 'A Happy Day Spa' or anyone named Ms. [redacted].

Review: Failure to honor Gift Certificates totaling $90.

For Mother's Day, my children and granddaughter purchased 3 gift certificates at Happy Spa located on Foothills Blvd. They chipped in every penny they had so that I can pamper myself with 3 massages. I was able to use one certificate, but when I went back (July 15, 2013) for a 2nd massage at the same location, I was informed that they have changed their name and they are no longer called "Happy Spa." The owner is of Chinese descent, so I had trouble understanding what she was saying. I showed her the gift certificates and again, from what I understand what she was telling me, that their business name has changed. She took me outside and pointed at a banner hanging above their store of their current business name. I told her that "okay, I got that their name has changed, but that she should still honor the certificates since they were purchased there." She pointed at my certificates and her banner sign and told me they were different. After 20 minutes of not getting anywhere, I decided to go to another Happy Spa location that was listed and attached to the gift certificates. There were two other locations on the list. At the 2nd location (Fairway Blvd), I was told that my certificates were bought at the Foothills location and not at their store. Again, I had trouble understanding this person, but I was able to relay to her that I was just at the Foothills location, but that they are no longer called Happy Spa. She pointed at my gift certificates and said, "no, no, no, not ours, go to Foothills." Not getting anywhere, I asked to speak to the manager and she reached for her phone and called someone. The person on the phone was just as hard to understand, but she told me that the certificates I have were bought at the Foothills location. She told me I could get a massage at their Spa, but that I had to pay their price. I said no, I wanted to use one of my certificates since it says good at all Happy Spa locations. She kept telling me to go back to the Foothills location. After spending an hour talking and getting no where, I went and sat in my vehicle to recover from my wasted morning. I stared at the certificates and was very frustrated that not only did I not get anything accomplished, but that my children and granddaughter were ripped off of some of their savings. It's a lesson I have learned and I hope that my experience will prevent anyone else from purchasing any type of gift certificates. Thank you.Desired Settlement: A refund of $60 for 2 unused gift certificates from Happy Spa, or whoever represents them.

Thank you.

Initial Business Response

Hi [redacted],

Apologies for your troubles. When the location on Foothills Blvd was sold to the current owner, she agreed to honor any outstanding Happy Spa gift certificates. Therefore, when you tried to use your gift certificate at the Foothills store, she should have accepted it.

The locations at Pleasant Grove and Roseville Square have been sold to another owner. Although this new owner did not change the name of the store, as part of the sell, she will only accept gift certificates that were purchased at her locations (Pleasant Grove and Roseville Square).

To redeem your gift certificates, please go to the Foothills location. Thank you.

Final Consumer Response

(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)

I do not accept their response. The business on Foothills Boulevard does not exist which leaves the Pleasant Grove location responsible for honoring the gift cards for their company name.

I no longer want to communicate with this business and suggest that Revdex.com flag Hawaii Massage and Reflexology located at 910 Pleasant Grove Blvd Ste 150 Roseville, CA XXXXX-XXXX for refusal to honor gift card purchases so that other customers do not experience the same thing I did.

Final Business Response

Hi [redacted];

Again , you can solve tbe problem with the current owner at Foothill Blvd . Also , please leave the correct info about the massage Which is 4010 foothill blvd
