On Sat, Sept 3, at about 3:pm we arrived at Heart of Texas Veterinary Specialty Center on Old SettlersUnfortunately, my husband accidentally ran over our 6-month old puppy, Drifter while filling up deer feeders at our family ranch hours out of townLeslie was very kind and understanding as she called us back on the drive into townShe was interested in the well-being of our dog and how to best handle the situationWe are thankful for her genuine and sympathetic approach on the long driveUpon arrival the front desk staff were friendly and quick to get Drifter in the backLeslie met with us in a conference room and was very calm and kind to usShe was helpful in explaining the process of getting his x-rays and pain medicine started so we could determine what was wrongIt is evident she is passionate about her jobWe were very disappointed that the staff was very pushy to get us to apply for Care Credit before cost was even discussedThen, after quite some time, DrNoe G [redacted] brought us back into a conference room and pulled up Drifter’s x-raysIt was determined that his pelvis was broken in placesWe were very disappointed with DrG***’s professionalismHe was disrespectful and condescending in his tone of voice with usHe acted as if he was in a hurry and he could careless our situationHe would not give us feedback about his thoughts on the next step with our beloved dogWe asked him questions about cost of surgery, time frame and thoughts on recovery and he basically dismissed us; saying that he does not have this memorized and would have to pull it up and/or wait for surgeon on TuesWhen he walked out he rolled his eyes at my husbandWe were utterly devastated to have our dog in this predicament, so his negative attitude towards us was made it even more painfulWe were told that Drifter would have to be held for days under hospitalization costing about $2,plus another at least $3,for surgeryWe are thankful to have a friend outside the hospital that was honest with us about his recovery being very hard and he would be at most 60-70%We were disappointed that the staff could not give us this down to earth answer, money was more important than quality of life for our poor dogAfter we determined that it would be best to put our precious Drifter down, DrShelley P [redacted] came in and went through this process with usThe paperwork she was given had another $added to the bill that we did not agree tooIt is obvious that your organization is money hungryWe appreciate her genuine kindness and understanding during this traumatic and devastating time for usThankfully, she was patient and sympathetic with us as she went through the costsWe were flabbergasted at DrG***’s unprofessionalism, disrespect and insensitivity towards us during this completely utterly devastating time for usWe will definitely make sure that everyone knows about our experience and to stay away from your establishment

I was referred on April 14, to this vet clinic by my dog's regular vet to have blood work done to find out what was wrong with herThe vet does not have the facilities to do blood work or run diagnostic testsI immediately took her to this emergency clinic because I didn't think she was going to survive any longerWhen I got there I explained the symptoms she was having and they rushed her to the back for diagnosisAfter waiting about minutes I went to the front desk to ask about herThey told me she was receiving oxygen therapy which I was not told in advanceAfter another long wait I was called into a room to talk with a vet techHe was shoving paperwork in my face regarding costs for treatmentOne option was to do X-rays (of course this was the most expensive choice) or the blood work I requested would have been less expensiveUnder duress I agreed to the X-ray and was forced to sign the paperwork without a chance to even thinkSitting out in the lobby I had a chance to think a little clearer and I told them I'd rather have the bloodwork doneI was then informed the X-rays were already doneAfter having been at this clinic for & 1/hours a vet (Pasternak) called me into a room to show me the X-raysShe explained that there was a problem with my dog's right lung but couldn't tell exactly what the problem was It could be cancer or pneumonia or any number of other lung issuesThe vet highly recommended that I have my dog euthanizedI was given about minutes to decideI told them to euthanize her because by then she was barely breathing and wasn't aware of what was going onShe didn't even know that I was thereI got to spend almost an hour with my baby telling her goodbye before the vet came in with the euthanasia solutionI told the vet tech I wanted her cremated and spent another good while after she had passed loving her and talking to herThe vet tech came back in the room to collect the money I owed which I paid except for $which I thought was for cremationI told the vet tech I would pay the $within days thinking that when she was returned from cremation I would pay the balanceTwo weeks later I called to see if she was back yet and was told they were holding her for me to pay the balanceToday May I went in to pay the balance and told them I was there to pay her ransomThe lady laughed and repeated the word ransomOnce I got the receipt I was told to wait and someone would discuss the cremation packagesAnother minutes later a lady called me into the room with more paperwork for me to sign explaining that the balance that I paid covered a communal cremation but that the ashes would not be returnedMy other option was to pay $for the cremation to receive the ashesI told her I was never told that there would be additional chargesShe sent me to the front desk to make the other paymentThe lady at the front desk subtracted the previously paid $along with some other discounts bringing my total down to $I've been explained that this will be a private cremation with only my fur baby's ashesAs many lies as I've been told up until now I don't trust them as to what I'll be gettingI do not recommend anyone take their sick pet to this placeAll they seem to care about is their bottom line and how much they can get away with taking money from someone before treatment

Heart of Texas has excellent emergency, internal medicine and surgical servicesHave used all three department in the past for my own petsProfessional, caring and empathic doctorsHighly recommend!

I am not sure this is a "health" issue, but we did take our dogs in because they needed poison treatment...so to me that is a health issueHere is my complaint: I came home last year to find that our dogs had gotten into an unopened box of chewable carprofenLuckily I found the bottle and only of were left, so I looked it up online and knew they needed emergency treatmentFirst of all, I had to pay $to get a poison control person to recommend they get emergency care with this hospitalSeriously??? Anyway, when we got there, they did get them in fairly quickly, but the front desk staff was less than enthusiastic about itSince we knew our dogs were poisoned and I had researched the treatment, I knew that we caught it early and they would most likely be ok with treatmentThe vets on staff called us regularly to update us on the bill- oh yes, and their conditionAnyway, we knew it would take hours for treatment and on that last evening we got a call from a tech who expla
