Hendrick's Investments Reviews (4)

I don't know how this man is still in business. We had issues since day one when the apartment was not ready on the set move-in date. Our carpets reeked of cat urine to the point that we could not use two of the rooms. When we approached then about replacing the carpet ( as they promised us before we moved in) they yelled at us and told us the carpet was only four years old and nobody was replacing it. We spent $200 on odor removal. I developed severe mold and dust allergies by the end of our first month due to black mold in the bathroom and the filthy air vents. The second time it rained, the ceiling in our bedroom leaked. We lived in an older house and had to deal with rodents and spiders, which we found were coming in from holes in our kitchen that led directly to the outside. Around Thanksgiving some of Hendrick's droogs came in while we were gone and changed some outlets. They hit the GFCI switch controlling our refrigerator and never reset it and we came ended up throwing out $250 worth of food. We documented it, called them and left a message asking for some compensation but to no avail. Adding to the distress, they do not have an emergency maintenance line, you can only leave a message and hope they get back to you. There were plenty of other issues as well including parking, snow removal (or lack thereof) and our front steps literally falling apart. The porch of our house was littered with construction trash year round although nothing was completed. Our windows did not have screens or storm windows and half of them were painted shut. Two rooms in our apartment had no heat, one of which was the living room. The heat was turned off promptly on May 1st, even though the temperature was still in the 30s. The list just goes on. Please, please don't make the same mistake as us. Do not rent from this man.

Review: I have been a tenant of this realtor for the past three years, living in the same apartment since 2011. We pay our bills on time, make little noise and have even improved the interior conditions of the apartment. We seldom complain to [redacted] and typically fix any problems ourselves; except for things outside of our control such as having a lack of hot water, heating and security. 1. My first year renting from [redacted], the base heaters were not working properly in our apartment. [redacted] and the maintenance crew made several visits to fix the problem, but each time claimed "it felt warm" regardless. We have pictures of our thermostat sitting at 58 degrees until November 21st, when the problem was finally resolved. Despite not having heat for five months, I was also billed for not having a case on the thermostat. I disputed the bill on the premise that there was no case when I first moved in, which is documented on the Damages Report I submitted the first month I moved in August 2011.2. Since July of this year, we have called [redacted] 12 separate times asking for him to fix the hot water because in the dead of winter, the temperature is lukewarm at best. While he claims that efforts are being made to fix the problem, we are going on six months now and still no hot water. 3. Our realtor does not provide an emergency contact/maintenance number, so when they are not in the office, there is no way to contact them. In January the fire alarms in our building went off for 42 straight hours. Both the police and the fire department could not figure out how to shut off the alarm and were unable to contact [redacted] about the situation. If we are locked out of the apartment at night or on the weekend, we are forced to stay with friends because there is no way to re-enter outside of their office hours. The building has no security and people are constantly trespassing, destroying the hallways with trash.Desired Settlement: I'm sorry to trouble your office, but I have simply run out of patience. All we ask is for hot water and heat in the winter. These are supposed to be guarantees for any renter and [redacted] has really failed to provide these services. For the time being, we are opening an escrow account to demonstrate that we are paying our rent on time, but that [redacted] will not be paid until these problems are fixed. With your help, we would like to receive a credit for three months rent as a settlement.

Review: Business refuses to give back security deposit for apartment rental.Desired Settlement: Even though by law they are required to give me double the $430.00 deposit, I just want my deposit back. If not I would like the Revdex.com to recommend an attorney.

Review: Since we moved into this apartment from landlord [redacted], we have faced issues. We signed an "As-is clause" which meant our apartment was not in good shape but we were promised it was safe to live in and repairs and cleaning would be done within a week of moving into our apartment. Our apartment was never cleaned and it was absolutely filthy. We had to scrub toilets, floors, walls, and grease from the oven. We spent over $100 on cleaning supplies and fly and animal traps just to get our apartment into a condition somewhat livable. We also suffered a lack hot water for weeks upon first moving into our apartment. Rodney walked through our apartment and pointed to all the things he was going to fix and has fixed less than half of those issues since we moved in 3 months ago. There was a bee's nest blocking our door and my roommate is allergic to bees (which we told Rodney, but still he felt no need to address the problem for over 2 months). There is severe water damage on our ceilings that appears to have been taped over but looks like it will fall through at any moment. There is a gaping hole in the ceiling in one of the bedrooms. There are no window screens in any of the windows prohibiting us from opening any windows. Our oven smokes whenever turned on making it both unsafe and unusable. There is also no emergency maintenance phone number. The most recent issue which began over a month ago is an unbearable and unsettling noise coming from our pipes. It sounds like a hammer banging on metal and occurs all throughout the day and night. It wakes us up 4-5 times each night and the sleep deprivation is starting to seriously affect our lives. Upon our own research we believe the issue to be something called "water hammer" which can be result in burst pipes and severe damage when left unaddressed. We can no longer live under these conditions it is simply unfair that a landlord can force us to live like this. If we owned this apartment ourselves we would have resolved these issues moths ago.Desired Settlement: We either want all of these issues resolved or the right to break our lease and move out of this unsafe and unlivable apartment.
