Henley Roofing Systems installed a standing seam, nail strip metal roof on our 1100 square foot house, build about 1925, in approximately 11 days. A full time assistant was on site all of the time, and Mr. Henley most of the time. His was the middle bid. The roofers straightened what was a compromised roof structure. The metal panels were hemmed, and z closures used under the caps as per Mr. Henley's experience, instead of end closures shown in products installation video. It was very challenging to arrive at straight drip edges, vertical lines at ridge, and a symmetrical total closure at ridge caps due to existing structure. We wanted to keep the style of the original roof, but in retrospect, a shingle roof may have been the better choice.

The house is and was in a state of disawray and disrepair.  The customer hired us to replace his roof only.  The homeowner had widespread tar all over the roof prior to the replacement.  Fascia points in questions, around skylights, dormers, and pipes.  The tar was heavily caked...

on.  This must be cleaned out to the best of our ability to get new shingles under fascias, flashing, etc.  We have several pictures available that were taken during the roofing process upon request.  You can clearly see we cleaned as goof as possible on skylights, fascias, and around dormers, however we can not clean it off the vinyl itself.  The pictures show the excessive amount involved.  The flashing on the dormer is installed over the shingles, not under.  It must be nailed through so the water flows off properly.  Improper installation is covering the flashing with the shingles as the water can sit between the shingle that is over the flashing and cause leakage.   Leaves were thick all the way around the house (pictures available).  The homeowner also had junk piled up around the house as well, such as washing machines, stoves, etc. ( Apparently he's in the business).  The deck was so cluttered items couldn't even be moved from the wall of the house.  It is very hard to run a magnet to clean up nails in conditions such as these but we ran the magnet as well as we could in these conditions.  The homeowner didn't show us 700 nails.  He showed us a plastic cup that was half full with maybe 150 nails.  We clean to the best of our ability and this particular house had over 5000 nails that were removed.  When we met with the homeowner again for the 3rd. time, we ran the magnet again trying to satisfy him.  The homeowner never once contacted us after the completion of his roof with any complaints.  It wasn't until several days later, when we contacted him for payment that he started complaining.  He complained about a 20 yr. old rain gauge that was dry rotted which we gave him $40.00 for, even though we knew it wasn't worth that much.  He complained about a crack in his sidewalk that was only approx. 6 in. long and at a corner, which the shingle distributor may have done with their forklift, while delivering the shingles.  We don't know that for sure but we do know we didn't drive across it.  We don't have a forklift and he authorized the shingles to be delivered for the job. The distributor would be willing to pay a reasonable prorated rate for the damage but that would be $200.00 or so, not $2000.00. The homeowner isn't being reasonable.  He even complained about a pipe boot that he had replaced a while back but was still fairly new.  Because we took it off and discarded it.  We did that because we replace ALL pipe boots when replacing the roof.  We didn't steal from him, we performed our job.  He hired us to do a job because we are professionals not for him to tell us how to do our jobs.  We are the professionals and he wouldn't tell a doctor how to perform surgery, he can't tell us how to install a roof properly.  He's not a roofing contractor with 33 yrs. of experience. He constantly bullied our employees while they were there and that is why they took so many pictures to begin with. We were contracted to replace the roof not repair his house and clean up his trash.  We have been in business for 33 yrs. and a member of the Central Carolina Revdex.com since 1997 with an A+ rating.  We haven't kept that rating by doing substandard work.  We have worked with this homeowner as best as we can starting with the fact that we cut the price on his roof several hundred dollars because he had to get a loan and could only get $9,000.00.  We have tried to work with him as best as we can and he just wants more money back because he has so many other repairs on a house that has been neglected for so many years and he can't afford to fix it.  Roofing is demolition and with any demo job comes unforeseen issues that have to be addressed but they aren't our responsibility, they are the homeowners.  We even cut him a break on all the wood repairs needed by not charging him for them.  We are master applicators, certified through CertainTeed Roofing Materials, and we did nothing wrong on his roof.  We completed the job we were hired to do.    Please feel free to contact Mr. Jason [redacted] President of Henley Roofing Systems, Inc. for any other questions at [redacted]  He has alot more to say on this matter.
