Hensik Design and General Contracting Reviews (2)

I called to set up service on our Jetta. There is a malfunction indicator light on (which is STILL on as I write this review) that I requested to be checked. I specifically told them the oil did not need to be changed. What did they do when they received the car for service? Ignored the malfunction light and changed the oil. I called to address the problem again and asked to be reimbursed for the mistake. They would not acknowledge the mistake. We will not be doing business with this VW dealership in the future and I am going to be very vocal about the service mistake.

I hired [redacted] in August of 2015 for a renovation on my bathroom and front door. He made several promises regarding the workers he employed that proved to be false. Despite my efforts to contact him, he did not reply and thus the door was never fixed and the bathroom was left unfinished. He asked me if I wanted to replace the plumbing behind the shower but that it was fine and did not need to be replaced. I said whatever he suggested was fine. I was unaware that without replacing the plumbing I could not replace the taps in the shower. As well, my house is very old, 1947, and believe he should have known, as a contractor, that replacing the plumbing was the best way to proceed. Thus the shower taps were never installed properly, he put on the old taps and told me they were usable until he could get back to finish the job. But he never came back. He finally did contact me in November and told me there were several reasons he did not finish the job. [redacted]. In the meantime, I had been using the bath and shower he told me were usable until the ceiling in the basement imploded from the damage done by leaking from behind the shower wall as the old taps he put on in the meantime had not been sealed properly. As a result, I had to hire a plumber to fix the leaking pipes and the ensuing damage. The seam where the tile meets the wall in my bathroom is destroyed from water damage, as is the ceiling in the basement directly below my shower upstairs. The job was left incomplete, and as a result cost me thousands of dollars in repair bills. I gave him a deposit of $2000 when he quoted me $3500 for the entire reno, bathroom and front door included. The door was never fixed, and I am faced with thousands in repair bills of which I have not yet received a total.Desired SettlementI would like to be reimbursed for the damages that resulted from unfinished work. I do not expect, or want the door renovation. I will hire a a different contractor to repair the damage to walls and ceiling and want the entire bill to be reimbursed by him. [redacted]Business Response [redacted]I was hired by [redacted] in August of 2015 to renovate her bathroom and replace the front door. The total estimate provided was for $4533.48 which I had taken a $2000 deposit from her to purchase materials for the bathroom and some labour costs. The bathroom was to be completed first and then the replacement of the front door was to follow which was an estimated $1,450.48 in charges. I had completed everything in the bathroom except install the new taps. The reason I never completed the job is because [redacted] was becoming hard to deal with and my trades that had come into do work were also commenting how they didn't want to work there anymore. We had mutually agreed that I would no longer be working at her place even though the job was incomplete and the front door was to not be replaced. At that time I had completed about $3,000 worth of work in the bathroom, which included extras that we had agreed on (that were not originally on the estimate) that I have not yet billed her. These include new insulation and drywall behind tub, demo of the previous drywall, new shower [redacted] I had bought for her, installation of towel bars and toilet paper holder. As for the plumbing issue, I understand that she believes she needed some new plumbing pipes behind her shower. However when I took off the drywall there was no sign of deterioration to the pipes. Now once I was finished at [redacted]'s house she had contacted a plumber to install the new taps. I believe [redacted] said that she didn't like them or they didn't fit so the plumber installed her old ones again. It is unfortunate that she had a water leak, but once another trade comes in that I have not hired and does work on her bathroom I cannot be liable for any damages that have occurred. I am not too sure how knowledgeable this plumber is as he was telling [redacted] that I did not put moisture resistant drywall behind the tile. I in fact upgraded the board and put a cement back board (the best board for a shower). [redacted]. I decided to cut my losses and not pursue to remaining outstanding charges as the job was left incomplete. [redacted]. In my professional opinion I do not believe I owe [redacted] any money to bring in other trades at my expense. In return I will offer my services to help repair the damages to the ceiling or any other damages that were a result of the bathroom leak.
